Why do Protestants desire to marry Catholics?

I wasnt saved when I got married so here I am married to a non-believer(he is catholic but in name only). But I was not raised the same way my children are being raised. I want them to have a spiritual marriage. I have a great marriage but it lacks the spriritual. Im a spiritually single mom.

We are both Christians and we both put Jesus first. That is all that matters. Jesus does come first in our marriage. It doesn’t matter what church a person belongs to.

Yes it does matter especially if a Catholic person has an agenda against the Catholic Church for some reason so then decides to join a Protestant church. He might still believe in Jesus but he is not in Jesus’ Church because he’s angry for some reason. That is when it matters in what church one attends.

If two non-Catholic Christians get married and they’re both from different denominations then it really doesn’t matter because they obviously don’t know about the Catholic Church. But when someone is not so innocent and ignorant of the Catholic faith and is just angry with the Church, then it does matter. Now if a fallen away Catholic left the Church innocently and just didn’t know the faith but still loves Jesus Christ that could be a different story. But that doesn’t mean that the fallen away Catholic couldn’t have studied the Catholic faith and given it a chance before actually leaving.

Perhaps because that certain Catholic really does not know his/her faith and is a Catholic in name only. He/she is not really a devout practicing Catholic who truly believes in the One True Church that Jesus Christ built on Peter the Rock.

If it’s the case that a devout practicing Catholic marries a protestant then that person will not leave the Church and will pray for the conversion of his/her future spouse.

I told my daughter she needs to look for someone who puts God first and her second.

That is a very good advice for a mother should give to her child.
Also, look for someone who care about bring her closer to God not further from God.

I have some suggestions which you may want to try if you haven’t already.

The parish I’m in now has a beautiful bullentin with a nice picutre on the front, this week a bysantine of temptation. I cut this a tape it to the bathroom mirror ,it has a bible verse and i cut out the part of the church name for later use, but since he is a Cathholic you might want to leave it.
it is a greater conversation starter and when my DH ever does go to my parish he will be familiar with the pics.
I am putting these pics in an album because they are so nice and unusual and seasonal. Like I said some are bysantine so you don’t get the cartoon look of the devil.

I’m waiting for him to ask where I got the pics and my visitors
are commenting they look nice.

i also put scripture on a 3X5 card but my DH knows lots so it is just a matter of discussion and debating.

Years ago we bought a paint by number of the Last supper and we did it together, that still hangs on the wall.

Buy a jigsaw puzzel of the ark or soemthing and do it together as a famiily and preserve it and hang.

Have a large jar or cookie jar near the table and have quaotes from the bible that the kids can pick from and read before the meal just short ones and then have your DH comment on it.

Or better yet the name of the Saint for the feast day.

Excuse me, my husband does know his faith quite well and he is not a Catholic by name only. He is a devout practicing Catholic.
He accepts my faith and I accept his that doesn’t matter to us and it shouldn’t matter to anyone. We both stregthen each other in our own faiths and that is the way it should be.

My question to you non-Catholics is why if you disagree so much with the teachins of the RCC do you marry a Catholic?
My DH (Methodist)married me a Catholic and he said in high school he was always drawn to the Catholics but I said why?

Marrying a non-Catholic doesn’t always need to lead astray from salvation, nor marrying any Catholic is always a good idea. Personally, I’m strongly dedicated to the idea of marrying only a practicing Catholic who has no “respectful disagreements” with Mother Church. But if I had the choice between a nominal Catholic and a devout Orthodox or Eastern Orthodox girl without anti-Catholic ideas or bias, then I would choose the latter, even if nominal Catholics are probably easier to convert. Then again, maybe should an atheist or agnostic person agree with all the moral teaching of the Church, shouldn’t that person be easier to convert than a nominal Catholic to embrace the Church more fully? The problem with devout believers, however, is that they will have a problem having their children with you brought up Catholic. And if you’re going for lukewarm ones, go for the lukewarm Catholic, I guess.

Thank you He sees and hears me talk about church plus Im involved. I just keep my behavior as biblical as I can and he has seen the difference. So Im patiently waiting.

One of the fundamental beliefs of the Catholic faith is that the Catholic Church is the ONE, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Jesus Christ founded ONE Church, not many churches: “You are Peter (Cephas), and on this rock (cephas) I will build my Church (not churches), and the gates of hell will not prevail against it (not them)” (Matt. 16:18)

It is 100% contrary to the Catholic faith to say “Jesus doesn’t care what church we attend as long as we follow him and no one else.” We absolutely do believe that the Catholic Church is the ONE True Church of Christ…all Catholics must believe this to be in communion with the Church. Another dogma we must and do believe in is *extra ecclesiam nulla salus – *that there is no salvation outside of the Catholic Church. This does not mean that non-Catholic Christians can’t be saved, but it does mean “that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body” (Catechism of the Catholic Church)

These are all such good posts and has helped me to see things from my DH perspective. Let me add one more point that I think that has drawn him towards the RCC. He sees the great amount of respect that we have for the priests and that they would be cleibate for their faith is impressive as he says that is scriptural if desired. He is very scriptural and we are finding things to agree on. And disagree if we choose but he is the hot or cold type christian and I was the lukewarm Catholic but am learning to read the catechism to get my facts correct and try not to get so confused by all the changes and dogmas of the Faith today. There is a thread on mariology EC vs RC on the discussion of Mary and the OC which is really quite interesitng and they know alot about the philosophers etc.

My opinion is Mary was visited by the Angel Gabrial and i believe she was being prepared to receive the Holy Spirit as baptism of the spirit to become the Mother of Jesus in the flesh.

You know me so I have tried to talk about this but that is for another thread. I try to live my life as Mary did with Jesus and I suppose as Jesus is the divine and I think of him as a spouse. Too absurd?

Interesting. I had never seen Mary referred to in this manner, as the spouse of God or the Holy Spirit or of anyone other than Joseph, but then I am not terribly familiar with Marian teachings. I have been to a couple of charismatic Catholic Masses that included lots about Mary and knew a couple of guys who were very into the whole Medjugorje, including making repeated pilgrimages there back in the late 80s/early 90s, but that’s about it.

Thank you for those references, I didn’t realize there were so many, sorry it took so long to return, when St. Gabriel appeared to Mary I believe he was preparing her and making an announcement but also she was accepting the chosen privaledge. Dessert

How do you get that the spouse of Mary is the Father from this prayer? First of all, the spouse of Mary is the Holy Spirit. But if you didn’t know that, you could easily get that from that prayer that you have there. It is saying to send the Holy Spirit, then it says to have her spouse come which is the Holy Spirit. So I don’t understand how you could misunderstand this prayer.

This prayer makes it easier to see that the Holy Spirit is clearly the spouse of Mary. But the first prayer clearly says it to me also.

Mary is NOT the spouse of God. She is the spouse of the Holy Spirit.

You can think of it in the way you and your spouse together can participate in the procreation of another human being. The Holy Spirit made it possible for Mary to conceive a new life in her womb. Your spouse can make it possible for you to conceive a new life within your womb. Of course we all know that it is only possible because of God but God does things through others.

I disagree with you and I could give you scripture, but if I did that you would probably say that I am sola scripture which is a lie. So, instead I will say this, I know a Priest and an Eucharistic Minister who would disagree, as well as other very involved and greatly devoted Catholics. Also, when I took RCIA what I was told doesn’t agree with everything you said. Also some things you said towards the end contradict each other.
