Thank you Gabbanelli911!!!
I like your post!!
I am a Protestant (Lutheran, actually!!) and I must apologize for peoples uneducated criticism of your Catholic faith. I think there are many, many misconceptions and misunderstandings between the two branches of Christendom from both sides.
It may come to surprise many Catholics, but the Lutheran Church is very similar to the Roman Catholic Church in many respects. The Church I go to is a Lutheran Church (ELCA to be specific) and we believe in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, we believe that Mary is the Mother of God, we believe in the example of the saints, we believe in confession, (in fact, you can schedule a time of confession with your pastor if you like!!) we also believe in the one holy and apostolic Catholic Church. We also believe in Church tradition.
As a Protestant, I have even been known to say the rosary (and in fact, I have to make it more of a regular habit!!) I love Mary and believe the she is the Mother of God!! I have defended her to many of my Protestant brethren!!
***I think the major hang ups people have between the two professions of faith, are doctrine and teachings. I think this is sad. We may have different doctrines and teachings, but, in my opinion, that does not change the saving work of Christ on the cross. In the scriptures, it says whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. It does not say whoever is Catholic or whoever is Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, etc. and calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved!!! ***
Again, I think this is one of the reasons there is so much friction sometimes between the two branches of the Church!! I agree with what you ended with Gabbanelli911: “Let’s become ONE strong Church!!”
I could not agree more with you!! For me, I would gladly pray, recite the rosary, go to the confessional, attend Mass and receive communion with a Catholic anytime!!
Take Care all and catch you on the forums!!
