Why do Protestants hate the Catholic Church?

Well, in terms of Eastern Orthodox, they wouldn’t permit Catholics (ICWR) or Protestants to receive even if none of their own ministers were available.

But in terms of Catholics (ICWR) our practice is somewhat different: we sometimes permit Protestants to receive if none of their own ministers are available. (*Sometimes *because it would also depend on, in particular, whether they share our belief in the Eucharist.)

the never ending catholic obsession with what protestants think. Its like the prayers for the catholytic conversion of england?
Once in a while I wonder if I would be better off posting on a Protestant forum … After which I think “Man it must be late, my brain is really tired.”

I would suppose it would depend on the Protestant forum. Christian Forums seem all right, but I think they accommodate the entire, well, " Christian Neighborhood." Puritan Forums, not quite so much. With all our doctrinal disagreements, I would reckon CAF one of the safest forums for anyone of any Christian persuasion. I think what unifies us is more important than what divides us, although the divisions are extremely serious. It’s good that we can get into these discussions without too much polemic…

True. 🙂 But I just had to say something anyhow , because NCs always seem to be saying how bad Catholic discussion forums are … Pot, kettle, etc. 😉
Frankly, I really like CAF. 👍 I don’t see why anyone would say anything negative about a host site, simply because it doesn’t share their religious affiliation. It smacks of insecurity to me. Blessings on your Easter, by the way. 🙂

Thanks. 🙂

To clarify, I don’t much experience of people who say negative stuff about this site simply because it doesn’t share their religious affiliation (although I don’t doubt that such people exist!).

My family is very anti-Catholic. My father grew up Catholic, but strayed away when he became an adult. Catholicism was one subject guaranteed to come up at a holiday meal.

Now that I have been researching, I am beginning to understand. I may not agree with everything at this point, but I do try my best to understand. I think my mom is ignorant, since she may not understand or have done any research. My mom made a negative comment Bout not being able to receive Communion, recently. I have agreed with her on a number of occasions, but as I learn more and more, I am beginning to understand.

I have to say that from my POV as a Protestant, the Catholic church can seem kind of intimidating. Now that i am researching, it is a little less intimidating than it once was.

Thank you for sharing that!

Luther was a crazy, crass, vain (very very very vain), fool who made up stuff as he went along.

Calvin was more organized but the system of fatalism which is shared by the Iconoclastic or derivative Arian Heresy of Islam is utterly illogical and inconsistent with the nature of god.

Heresy hates the truth, it is just that simple.

“Better a Turk than a Papist…”

Its OK to embrace other heresy as long as it works in tandem with futile attempts to deconstruct the truth.

Protestantism led to Enlightenment to Secularism to our horrible culture that lauds vice as virtue and is full of such ideological bankruptcy.

I agree completely. I have said before that if I were to land in some remote place where only two churches were available – Catholic and some protestant church with a memorialist view of the Eucharist – I would have to take seriously the challenge of joining the Catholic church.
Agreed, though if you are there CA Article XIV is in effect. 🙂

Thank you Gabbanelli911!!!

I like your post!!

I am a Protestant (Lutheran, actually!!) and I must apologize for peoples uneducated criticism of your Catholic faith. I think there are many, many misconceptions and misunderstandings between the two branches of Christendom from both sides.

It may come to surprise many Catholics, but the Lutheran Church is very similar to the Roman Catholic Church in many respects. The Church I go to is a Lutheran Church (ELCA to be specific) and we believe in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, we believe that Mary is the Mother of God, we believe in the example of the saints, we believe in confession, (in fact, you can schedule a time of confession with your pastor if you like!!) we also believe in the one holy and apostolic Catholic Church. We also believe in Church tradition.

As a Protestant, I have even been known to say the rosary (and in fact, I have to make it more of a regular habit!!) I love Mary and believe the she is the Mother of God!! I have defended her to many of my Protestant brethren!!

I think the major hang ups people have between the two professions of faith, are doctrine and teachings. I think this is sad. We may have different doctrines and teachings, but, in my opinion, that does not change the saving work of Christ on the cross. In the scriptures, it says whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. It does not say whoever is Catholic or whoever is Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, etc. and calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved!!!

Again, I think this is one of the reasons there is so much friction sometimes between the two branches of the Church!! I agree with what you ended with Gabbanelli911: “Let’s become ONE strong Church!!”

I could not agree more with you!! For me, I would gladly pray, recite the rosary, go to the confessional, attend Mass and receive communion with a Catholic anytime!!

Take Care all and catch you on the forums!!

What you stated (that are bolded) is absolutely true but there would have to be concessions on either side in order for us to become ONE strong Church. You’ll see that there are many of us in here that agree wholeheartedly with wanting this and, maybe it will happen someday.

If we were to attend a Mass, we would not be welcome at the communion table and rightly so because there are some significant doctrinal differences between us. It would be the same if a Catholic were to worship in an LCMS communion service - the elders and Pastor would not allow their receiving the eucharist from our table, either.

I would say that the majority of we Protestants do love Mary as she was the mother of our Lord here on Earth. She had an important and somewhat difficult job to do, especially when she had to reveal to those around her (Joseph, family, and friends) that she was with child. That’ being said, I know there are a lot of Protestants who would not feel comfortable with saying the rosary. If you’re comfortable then that’s okay - you are the one that needs to feel that way.

As the others have said, Welcome to the forums! There is a lot of discourse between the lot of us and, I know I have learned a lot during the time that I have been a member.

Take care, and God bless!!

Rita

Why do Protestants hate the Catholic Church?

They’re like ‘obstinate children’ arguing with their ‘Mum’ calling them into the house!!
