As has been explained, Scapulars are a private devotion. What is your definition of a private devotion? It may not be a defined dogma but it is a doctrine by definition.
This is a definition of doctrine:
rule or principle: a rule or principle that forms the basis of a belief, theory, or policy
ideas taught as truth:
Sure, anyone who wishes to devote themselves to prayers and voluntarily doing the will of God, and devote themselves to building a world true to His plan of community, justice and peace can apply for a Scapular. It’s not a magic charm, it’s not a guarantee of salvation, it’s not an excuse to sin, and it’s not required. It’s optional. Totally optional.Did i read correctly that in this blog the nun said that catholics are to believe this when she writes:
The Pope extended the promise to the rest of us, meaning, the Church Militant…which means, we believe the same thing. He didn’t extend the promise to the separated brethren or the Wiccans.???
Then she goes on to say, “Do you have to believe this? No, you don’t.”…
The piece of cloth is a symbol of what we believe. You don’t need the symbol to believe it. You can dump all your sacramentals and saint holy cards into the landfill tomorrow. No problem. You can forget about wearing a scapular. You don’t have to believe in anything that came to us through private revelations.
Is it clear enough now?
