I take it you’re Anglo-Saxon so it never occurred to you there are Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, etc. scientists who don’t have any Christian beliefs to suspend.Just like some people watching a Shakespearean play suspend disbelief to enjoy the play’s absurdities,improbabilities, and unreality, so it has become in vogue to suspend Christian beliefs while going about the work of science.
But in any event your argument can logically be turned straight back on you, and then it’s us Christians who are suspending disbelief and living a fiction.
