Why do so many christians convert to Islam?

And last time he was on here, I think he admitted to questioning Islam, so maybe he will revert to Christianity again. šŸ¤·
 
I know one person whoā€™s faith journey took him from being nominatively a ā€œchristianā€ then into Islamā€¦and then as he began to read the Koran and the Bible he became a Christianā€¦but Iā€™ve never met anyone who had a real Christian commitment who then converted. I have met a few former Muslims that became Christian because of the bible.

I didnā€™t think of it at the time and I would hope the father asked her that. These kids coming out of some of the colleges think they are intellecutally superior. I only went to a regular state college, was able to afford it because I went in the USMC, worked as a technician afterwards and made and saved enoug to retire early. She went to Berkeley, canā€™t seem to get a job and she still leeches off of her father (what a dope). I got the feeling she was just being polite by listening to me. All that education and nowhere to go!

Funny that these intelligent beings donā€™t do their own research into these things but they donā€™t.

Hey, if it makes you feel any better there is a Notre Dame graduate that goes to the parish I go to and, they canā€™t park a car.

Some reasons I can think of:
  1. Admiration of Islamic practices like praying five times a day; regular Muslims practicing what the Koran enjoins on believers.
  2. See a real ā€œpeaceā€ amongst the Muslims they encounter that they do not find in their Christian communities.
  3. Islamic emphasis on absolute oneness of God seen as remedy to what they see as the self-contradictory Christian teaching of the Trinity.

The ā€œscamā€ is also known as ā€œbandwagoningā€. Itā€™s a marketing strategy pure and simple.
Think everyone is ā€œdoing itā€.

Now, promptly slap yourself out of that leading sales tactic and then realize itā€™s an argument ad populum.

Sometimes appeals to celebrity are used in this tactic. It helps.

Let me boil it down simply into two words.

Thereā€™s just one major problem: The Qurā€™an, and by extension Islam, is not true. In a way, I feel almost bad for Muslims, as their religion is severely lacking in the richness of the Christian faith. It is not that they donā€™t have their own rich history and traditions, but there is a certain poverty in Islam as defined in relation to the other religious traditions it considers itself the inheritor and perfection of (as it often likes to define itself).

Consider, for instance, the Jewish tradition. Thousands of years of written tradition, the law of the OT prophets, the faith of the Savior Christ and of the great patriarch Abraham. What does Islam have that can compare with this? It has its own claims to have been the faith Abraham, roughly 1400 years of written tradition (in comparison with the Jewsā€™ 3000+ years), andā€¦well, thatā€™s about it. There was of course the ā€œGolden Ageā€ of Islamic (read: STOLEN ASSYRIAN) science and all that, but the degree to which this depended on non-Muslim knowledge (from, you guessed it, Jews and Christians) makes calling it ā€œIslamicā€ a definite misnomer.

The Christian tradition, whether you count it as 2006 years old or older (depending on your view of Christianityā€™s relationship to Judaism), is also much richer. I suspect most Muslims would be shocked to find just how much of their religion is a reduction of Christianity and Judaism. As you may or may not know, Orthodox Christians pray seven times a day to Islamā€™s five, and keep a strict fast for much longer than Islamā€™s yearly fast (the Ethiopian Orthodox calendar has 250 fast days per year!). So-called ā€œIslamicā€ architecture owes a heavy debt to Christian churches of the east as a result of Islamic seizure of Christian churches which were then converted to mosques. One listen to eastern Christian hymnody (such as this Syriac Qorbono, or even the video in my signature, from the Coptic Orthodox Church) can leave the listener with no doubt as to where the melismatic style of Qurā€™anic recitation drew its inspiration. Some Muslims like to point to these similarities as evidence of Islamā€™s place as the perfection of what came before it, but obviously as Christianity (and Judaism, which had established many of these things itself) is older than Islam, and Islamā€™s gutting and perversion of religion in the name of Muhammad is not in keeping with such claims, we need not entertain such attempts to get into our good graces at the expense of our souls.

I am more inclined to believe StrawberryJamā€™s speculationā€¦since Islam is in a resurgent phase at the moment (after what? Bombing a bunch of things and flying a few planes into buildings? Thatā€™s nothing to be proud of, folks! Luckily at least some Muslims understand this), it very well may seem like a good step to take. Christianity is perhaps something like a religion for grandparents and affluent, socially-regressive WASPs for some people looking for a sense of identity. If only they knew what they were giving upā€¦ šŸ˜¦

And how many of those were practicing Christians before conversion, as that was your original argument.

Iā€™m going to need a lot more than just a few names. I know people convert to Islam all the time, it is sadly one of the fastest growing religions in the world, but those two are not connected.

What we need to do is look at correlation/causation. I think there is some confusion with that.

My theory on stuff like this is that when they get one to be stupid and convert they want to make sure everyone knows about it. They try to get them in situations to be noticed. Keep in mind that MPAC is a Muslim Brotherhood front group and one of their goals is recruitment. They do it in the schools and in our prisons. They are trying to reach out in communities too these days with ā€˜meet the local imamā€™ at the mosque or similar things.
 
Just like 80% of reports of mistreatment by Muslims in America, investigated by the FBI proved false.

Many would like to leave Islam but canā€™t for fear of being murdered by their own families.

there is a beauty, richness, depth, diversity, and ancient sanctity within Christianity. our traditon begins before the creation of the world, and extends onward into eternity, all because of Christ who was and is, and is to come.

to not know Christ, the Christ of the Bible, for who He really is, that is the greatest and most heart-breaking poverty of all. if one does not know Christ, one does not know or have fellowship with God. no religion can bridge that gapā€¦ if human piety and sincerity were enough to win true peace and grace, we would have all leapt over that chasm eons ago, and taken it back.
 
well, maybe u guys can name a few well known muslims, maybe preachers, imams, mullahs, anything that converted to catholicism. donā€™t hate. itā€™s ok not to win every argument. wink šŸ˜‰

They are not in heartbreaking poverty when it comes to Christ, as they at least view Jesus as a prophet.

What argument? You havenā€™t made an argument. You stated that a lot of Christians were become Muslims, then you listed off a bunch of names, of people who have converted to Islam, completely ignoring whether they were Muslim or not. A typical Muslim tactic.
