Why do so many non-Catholic Christian “Protestants” - Reject the term “Protestant”?

Our Lord never said when my Church fails then i will built many others churches. it only make sense that Our Lord cannot go against His own Words. He could not have promised us One Church than come up with many others with so many diferent interpretations of His Words. you can say whatever you want but this doesnt sound a Godly thing to anyone.

The Holy Spirit could never give so many different interpretation of the Word of God. For God said Himself.

No I do not represent all Catholics, but I also don’t patronize Lutheran sites and release all this aggression for all to have to be subjected to.

Best news I heard all day Yes please do not post to this site Catholiconce. We do not need any protestants on this page. Only those headed to heaven us perfect Catholics should be here sharing our views. Protestants have no valid priest no eucharist and therefore no opinion and should just keep their coments to themselves. I am tired of protestants sticking there nose where it does not belong. I long for the day when we can have seperate areas to live in the protestants should live in substandard housing and Catholic should live in mansions . Just like is going to be in Heaven. In Heaven those who were protestant wil have to wait on us catholics and do as we ask or else

In reading other posts by this particular Backwards (oops! I mean Backwoods) person they are serious… I just had to laugh… Boy is their face gonna be red when God repremands them for their attitude to His children…

I’ve never seen one of his comments before, and from the looks of it I tend to agree with you! If he does not want protestants on a catholic site why would he join the “non-catholic religions” forum? I thought that part of this forum was for chatting between Christians?

First of all it is Backwoods Blues. Second You left because of what somebody said.“Teacher Teacher Johny being mean to me”. Listen you can not go through life with that timid attitude. Why is it when A catholic tells you prots the truth you all run off with your tail between your leg and whimper ? I will tell you all one more time THERE IS NO SALVATION OUTSIDE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH GET IT !!! I was going to say something but then I would be droping to his level. Instead of getting upset we should all pray for Backwoods Blues. We should all note that we can learn from his remarks and improve on our christian lives by not doing as he has done. I am ever so happy where I attend Church and here is a note to those of you who think Like Backwoods Blues I am a Christian and I am not Roman Catholic and there is Salvation outside the Roman Catholic Chuirch No matter what any Catholic apologist or poster to this site claims. Plain and simple

I didn’t say I wasn’t a Protestant (although, I’m a Baptist which, technically, is different than a Protestant).

I said that the way that the word is commonly applied is not accurate.

No, you said that the word is inaccurate. It isn’t. The normal sense of the word is as a broad label for churches deriving from the Reformation.

Baptists unquestionably derive from the Reformation (see Leon McBeth’s *The Baptist Heritage *for a scholarly discussion of this). You are an offshoot of radical English Separatism, arguably with some Anabaptist influence (though McBeth argues that this was minimal).

In what sense is the word inaccurate? If you’re talking about the silly etymological arguments that some Catholics come up with (“what are you protesting,” etc.), then it’s not clear what Protestants *are *covered by such a definition. (In my experience, Baptists are as likely to be obsessed with “protesting” Catholicism as anyone, but it isn’t a fair categorization of any Protestant tradition as a whole.) If you are restricting the word to the original Reformational traditions (the Lutherans and the Reformed), then sure, you aren’t Protestants. But that’s not how the word is generally used. It has always been used to include the later churches that separated from the original Protestants, especially since in some cases (as with the Separatists, whether Baptist or not) the explicit reason given for the separation was that the original Protestant churches (Anglican in this case) were insufficiently Protestant!
