Yeah, my face still has the red marks full of all the evidence I have been hit with.Although he says he is not a JW, I suspect rbarcia is some sort of Protestant Fundamentalist. They often have a very difficult time accepting scientific evidence even when it smacks them between the eyes, and they will reject the work of 100,000 biologists and other scientists – many of them Catholics – in favor of their own private literalist interpretation of scripture.

Well, that’s a start. I used to think Young Earth Creationists were essentially kind, honest, well-meaning, but uninformed people. Then the evidence to the contrary began hitting me, demonstrating that they are dishonest people, endlessly recycling old scraps of argument in the hope that it will convince people of the truth of their anti-scientific worldview. They are as dishonest as Richard Dawkins and the other “new atheists,” but where those two sides agree is the claim that “evolution = atheism.”Yeah, my face still has the red marks full of all the evidence I have been hit with.
Wirraway, I didn’t mean to imply that egg laying began with dinosaurs.fish were laying eggses long before dinosaurs.
Find ym post where I explained that I was to lazy to type yet undiscovered hominoid.argument from personal incredulity is flawed reasoning.
man didn’t “come from monkies”, that’s a straw man argument
Can’t give you a precise dates, but somewhere between 30,000 and 12,000 BCE. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time#History_of_the_calendarI am still waiting for an explination of what makes a day a day. I am still waiting for the place wher God gave us clocks, calenders, and told us how to mark time.
Oh, I mean where in the Bible…Can’t give you a precise dates, but somewhere between 30,000 and 12,000 BCE. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time#History_of_the_calendar
It’s in Genesis chapter 4. Expelled from Eden, Adam had to embark on the nine-to-five, so God gave him an electric alarm clock.Oh, I mean where in the Bible…
…but seeing the way in which Adam suffered in the toils of his labor, God is His infinite wisdom was merciful and bestowed upon the alarm clock a snooze button. It’s in Genesis chapter 4. Expelled from Eden, Adam had to embark on the nine-to-five, so God gave him an electric alarm clock.
And for his birthday, he giveth to Adam one such new model, that containeth a backeth uppeth battery……but seeing the way in which Adam suffered in the toils of his labor, God is His infinite wisdom was merciful and bestowed upon the alarm clock a snooze button.![]()
How appropriate that this Adamic clock was a precursor of the atomic clocks of today…And for his birthday, he giveth to Adam one such new model, that containeth a backeth uppeth battery…(I was tempted earlier to do something like this…
But I hesitated… I knew someone would…

Do catholics believe in a literal 6 day creation?
What is the difference between a religious truth and scientific truth.
Doesn’t truth mean true or not?
Isn’t truth it happened or it didn’t.
How can I say that God made the world in 6 days with His spoken word as a religious truth, but not as a scientific fact.
You can’t.
The bible isn’t wrong, but your literal interpretation of creation as described in Genesis is.
You’re entitled to your view, though. So if believing in a literal 6-day, poof-like creation
is psychologically comforting to you, and you’re not teaching science, or practicing it, I don’t see a problem with your holding that personal pov.
Trying to convince others that your pov as fact, though? Well, let’s just say that we disagree there.![]()
I had a discussion with a friend of mine over this and he holds to a literal interpretation of Genesis. He pointed out the Hebrew word used for day means something like a literal 24 hour period. How do I respond to that when I am trying to show that story doesn’t need to be taken literally?
Creation can be a reality without the details of the story about being real. Verisimilitude is not the same as history. Or is a story about Jesus going to France & becoming the ancestor of the Merovingian kings to be treated as an account of real events merely because Jesus was a real person ? If so, you’ve just put forward a reason for taking “The Da Vinci Code” as sober history…Because I believe God’s word to be true.
John 17
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
We believe that the first reference to Jesus in Prophecy is in Gen 3:15 in the Fall. If this did not really happen, then neither did hte prophecy. Same for things like sin, if sin did not enter here, then the belief in Christ saving us becomes questionable.
Jesus spoke as if creation was literal.

I have another question: when did sex become fun? That is, when did sex begin to carry an orgasmic payoff beyond whatever it is instinct-driven reproductive sex conveys? With primates or earlier? I know bonobos engage in recreational sex.
