It seems younger people don’t join those organizations like they once did. Unfortunately that includes the church it seems also.

Naive, personal impressions suggest you are correct.

Though I’ve seen a local (parish) surge in younger families (likely non-representative or generalize-able).

A decline in the main stream civic organizations is to be unfortunate.

It is a change for certain. Where once you socialized in a fraternal group, today, we are corresponding on a hand held device.lol
I bet the ones still in fraternal groups are attending then corresponding on hand held device with non members Lol
Peace

Could be.

I do know that two of the groups I mentioned (the individual, as one might guess, was my father), still exist, still have local meeting places larger and more modern than when I was a child, when most of the local neighbors were involved, but I strongly believe the active memberships are aging and declining.

Would it be controversial to say consumerism is an American value?
Because I think it is. And that’s not a good thing.
Agreed. (Except for Amazon - which is a very good thing - especially for stuff like deodorant and light bulbs.)

And out of print books.

Opinion of a person formerly in the OOP book biz.

Who also has an opinion that lots of folks would have an opinion on the merits/pitfalls of Amazon.
