Such a poor understanding of what Christ meant. It is because you do not know what it is to experience the new birth.
JL: I was a bible only, non-denominational, Protestant before becoming Catholic. Baptized at age 27, 2am, March 3rd in a river with snow flurries. That is when I was born again or from above by water and Spirit, as our Lord tells is in Jn3:5, after Nicodemus asked HOW in Jn3:4.
What you call “EXPERIENCE” is not new BIRTH. My experience before baptism was the God given free gift of grace revealing himself to me. Enlightening my mind with the supernatural understanding (faith) I needed to turn to him (repent) without delay. So I called a relative and went to his home, to ask, what must I do. I really didn’t know what I needed to do, just as those in Act2:37-38 who were pricked in their heart and asked, “what shall we do?”. Peter told them what to do, repent, be baptized for remission of sin and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who remains in us after baptism, then we are truly born again by water and the Spirit, as our Lord tells us.
My heart was pricked, or as it used to be said, by some Protestants, I was under conviction for my sins. That is when I realized I needed to REPENT and turn to God, without delay. Thinking back I can see where God was calling me several times in my life before, but I rejected those experiences, thinking I would repent when older, as we all have free will to resist and reject those gifts of God. Had I accepted before the last time, I know I could have avoided some really bad times that finally brought me to know I could not reject this last call. Actually my last calling was over a very bad period of a lest a year, so really I was rejecting God for all that time, until it came to the point, I thought this was my last chance to be called.
My opinion when we, “EXPERIENCE” and our Lord knows we accept we are technically “SAVED” from hell if we cannot be born again by water and Spirit, for whatever reason. Kind of like Job had a hedge around him being protected by God from Satan. If we reject the EXPERIENCE the hedge is removed.
