Could anyone explain to me why some people absolutely “hate” (I don’t like to use that word much!) the Catholic religion? I myself wonder that? The only people that I know that don’t dislike the Catholic religion are my own parents. They are Protestant but they don’t care if I’m Catholic or not. As long as you’re happy with it and are faithful to God and Jesus, is what they would say to me. They have an open heart and mind to it as well. No, they’re not going to convert but they are not “anti-Catholics” either! Whew! 🙂

It just bothers me when bad things are said about Catholicism. I will admit at first that when I heard these “things”, I thought Catholicism WAS a “fake”, “false-doctrine” religion! But having an open heart and mind to it, I’m learning much and it’s starting to make more sense now!👍

It is a sure indicator that the Catholic Church is the Body of Christ:

Matthew 10:22 (New American Standard Bible)

22"(A)You will be hated by all because of My name, but (B)it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.

There are better translations but the bottom line is Jesus Christ and His Church will be hated. That is why the door is narrow.

You may be speaking of Protestants in general hear. However the secular culture does “hate” Catholicism and what it teaches and not necessarily just because they disagree with it.

In the Protestant faiths, it’s do what ever you want, if you don’t fit in, we’ll make a church for you. It’s because the Catholics are very structured and hold true to the Faith.

AMEN! I grew up around non-Catholics who were convinced that the Whore of Babylon was the Catholic Church and that the Anti-Christ would be a future Pope. Now that I’m Catholic, I find great comfort in Matt 10:25:
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
In faith,

probably the same reasons others hate other faiths… bigotry and ignorance…

Although some don’t like the Church due to bigotry and ignorance, a good deal more don’t like Her because of sin and unwillingness to change.

What really gets me is former Catholics. They know the truth, yet because of something that happened to them, by one person (i.e. a priest) the blaim the whole Church and try to pull others away.

People will go to great lengths to be “right”. Nobody wants to be wrong in the end.

Hmmm…interesting. You know, I’ve never heard of any Catholics yet that try to get Protestants to convert to Catholics!!! But it happens the other way around! That tells me that perhaps Catholics are humble about it maybe?

John 15:18 "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Basically Jesus contradicts the world and so the world hated him for it. The Church is of God not of the world therefore Mother Church also contradicts the world and the world likewise hates the Church. If you follow the teachings of Christ, which are the teachings of the Church you too will be hated, that is how you know you are in the truth. If you were really comfortable in this world that would only mean that you are of the world and not of God, which is a bad thing.

If your faith causes you to suffer then you will be blessed all the more.

Matt 5:10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

That is the Word that you can count on, the world will only tell you lies!!

It is the most sad situation, too, as they have turned their backs to Christ and rejected their Baptismal promises. Such people are aliens to any hope of salvation. God will send forth His wrath upon these evil doers.

The late Bishop Fulton J. Sheen once said that “not 100 in the United States hate the Roman Catholic Church, but millions hate what they mistakenly think the Roman Catholic Church is.”

CCC 818 “However, one cannot charge with the sin of the separation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such separation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect and affection as brothers . . . . All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Church.”

Some hate the Catholic Church because of what they think it is; others hate the Catholic Church because of what it actually is. These two groups of haters are very different.

The first group, those who think the Catholic Church is a false religion, hate it for a noble reason even though their reasoning is incorrect. IF the Catholic Church REALLY was trying to lure people away from Jesus and the salvation He purchased for us through His blood, then it would be a dispicable faith. But, it’s not. They just simply don’t understand it. Once these people really humbly understand how the Church teaches what Jesus taught, then they become some of the strongest Catholics I’ve ever seen. I emphasize the need for humility because they must overcome their own denominational (or so called non-denominational) pride.

The second group, those who do know what the Catholic Church teaches, hate her because of it. If what the Church teaches is true, then they can’t keep on sinning without fear of punishment. If God is God, then they can’t be god. Pride usually accompanies this group as well, but it is self pride.

Incidently, former Catholics can fall into either group.

It tells you that there are a lot of “weak” Catholics. It doesn’t mean that it should not happen. There are some strong Catholics (mostly converts but not all) that are very active in evangelization to Protestants - but we need much more.

Paris Blues,
See Matthew 10:v22. And you shall be hated by all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall persevere unto the end , he shall be saved.

There are spiritual powers and principalities in the world ( the Enemy) that have hated Jesus before He was born in Bethlehem. Since the Catholic Church IS CENTERED around Jesus Christ, it is expected that the anti-Jesus crowd will hate the Church Jesus started.

So there is a spritual basis for people to be anti-Catholic…it is the demons who initiate it. The demons can’t endure the presence of Jesus.

I had taken a long time to type up a response to this, but I accidentally hit the back button on my browser and lost it all.

I will, for that reason, be brief and omit much.

In nomine Domini.

The Church teaches that no one outside the Church can be saved, and it is horrible that you have never heard of a Catholic trying to convert a protestant, for a protestant has absolutely no chance for salvation outside the Church, which is confirmed by the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, as well as the ex Cathedra infallible declarations of Holy Mother Church. It has been infallibly declared: “There is ONE universal Church of the Faithful, outside of which NO ONE AT ALL is saved” in the holy Council of Lateran IV. Moreover, the Council of Florence has said even more clearly: “No one, EVEN IF HE POUR OUT HIS BLOOD FOR THE NAME OF CHRIST, can be saved, unless he has remained within the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.”

The holy Pontiff of good memory, Blessed Pius IX has proclaimed likewise: “We must mention and condemn again that most pernicious error which has been imbibed by certain Catholics who are of the opinion that those people who live in error and have not the true faith and are separated from Catholic unity, may obtain life everlasting. Now this opinion is most contrary to the Catholic faith, as is evident from the plain words of Our Lord, (Matt 18:17; Mark 16:16; Luke 10:16; John 3:18) as also from the words of Saint Paul ([erred footnote, it may correctly read: Tit. 3: (5-)11 ?]) and of Saint Peter (2 Peter 2:1) To entertain opinions contrary to this Catholic faith is to be an impious wretch*.*”

The Church is very clear. Blessed Pius IX says very clearly that our Lord said very clearly that there is no salvation outside of His Fold, the Church. The Church is just as clear as the words of our Lord are clear: “Amen, Amen, I say unto thee, unless a man be born again of WATER and the Holy Ghost, he shall not enter the Kingdom of Heaven” (Jn. 3.5) And the Church making comment infallibly in the holy Council of Trent, Canons on Baptism: “Can. III. If anyone saith that true and natural water is not necessary for Baptism, and thus wrests into some metaphor the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ: ‘unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost’, let him be anathema.” And in the same Canons, Canon V states, thus, “If anyone saith that Baptism is free, that is, not necessary unto salvation, let him be anathema.” The Council of Trent condemned the pernicious error spoken of 300 years later by the blessed Pontiff Pius IX.

The Church Fathers, too, made clear that there is no salvation outside the Church:

St. Jerome: “As I follow no leader save Christ, so I communicate with none but your blessedness, that is, with the Chair of Peter. For this, I know, is the rock on which the Church is built. …This is the ark of Noe, and he who is not found in it shall perish when the flood prevails. …And as for heretics, I have never spared them; on the contrary, I have seen to it in every possible way that the Church’s enemies are also my enemies.”

Other holy Pontiffs of happy memory make the same declarations, based on the Fathers of the Church:

“For at the time of the Deluge there existed only one Ark, the figure of the One Church. And we read that all things existing upon earth outside this Ark perished.” Pope Boniface VIII

It must be held as a matter of faith that outside the Apostolic Roman Church no one can be saved, that the Church is the only Ark of Salvation, and that whoever does not enter it will perish in the Flood.” Blessed Pope Pius IX

We must never fauler as the so many tepid Catholics do, sending themselves on the road to perdition, along the broad and easy path which leadeth to destruction. Our Lord said very clearly in the Sermon on the Mount: “Narrow is the gate and strait is the way that leadeth to life, and few there are who enter thereat.”

Let us make haste, therefore, to gather with Christ many souls to the Church, remembering always His words: “He who is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth”.

See, this is the problem…then other denominations will argue against that. They will say, well, we ARE saved because…etc. etc. My question is, if THAT’s the truth of the quote above, then that means other denominations are doomed?
