Now we all remember the “private revelation, listen to me and its mostly about me” Angelica Zombrano? Well her saying “don’t watch cartoons/listen to music/no entertainment only boredom” sounds a lot back in Shakespeare’s time when they said “Plays are the Devil” but…why? I never heard Jesus having a problem with such things, so why do they consider such things sin?🤷
Nuts are everywhere.

Usually people who take religion to extreeeeems 😃 are usually in cults and things like that. They are usually so misled by the word of God.

Alot of times what I find are people who are searching because of something that happend in their life and they seem to search in the wrong places.

The short and simple reason is because they are miserable, and misery loves company. Since they are miserable, then everyone around them should be as well. So they spend all their time and energy trying to convince everyone that misery is truth, and play is evil.

Frankly, I think they all belong in insane asylums. A man who can’t play because play has become a sin to him is insane and needs help. Play is part of what it is to be human. These miserable people might as well lay down and die, because they are already dead inside. They are zombies.

I suppose in that entertainment ultimately distracts from God and the bible and fathers seem pretty clear that we should be contemplating God constantly in all our efforts that is less than desired. Although I have not heard anyone say reading fiction is a sin except for the fundamentalists who cannot stand anyone reading Harry Potter or God help you the Golden compass or such series or violent video games in general.

While I don’t condone extremists who hate entertainment just for the sake of hating entertainment, I can see why a Christian would be concerned about entertainment. The society we live in today is rapidly losing any religious foundation, sense of morality or decency or restraint. In a society where nearly everything is permitted and nothing is sacred, it can be very hard to participate in all activities without having your faith or Christian witness undermined. “For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world” (1 John 2:16).

Consider the movies that are produced these days. Sex, materialism, and violence are the predominant messages. Even movies that are marketed as “family friendly” subtly teach values and ideas in conflict with the gospel. After watching movie after movie with sex, materialism, and violence, we become desensitized to it. It no longer shocks us, which is dangerous because we lose the sense of right and wrong.

And I say this as someone who loves all kinds of movies, music, and books.

Be careful calling everything sin. We are all one step away from insanity, and it is our thoughts that make us insane most of the time.
