I’m sure this thread has been made hundreds of times, but I’d like to be able to respond without reading 40 pages of previous posts. 🙂

I do more than believe. I know.

I know God exists because he made himself known to me in a very real, intensely personal way.

Care to share? It’s probably very subjective; no offense.

Act of Faith
O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; I believe that your Divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the Truths the Holy Catholic Church teaches because You have revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

🙂

There is just no way on my own strength I could be here right now. I went through some dark times this past year and I am thankful to be alive and healthy again. I myself have suffered spiritual attacks that were physical on me. He was the only one that made it stopped. Saved me. Converting my family. My parents are Catholic, my mom extremely devout. 🙂

All this stuff is attribution of spiritual meaning to things/events without any evidence.

Many answers to prayers…miracles really. Open heart surgeries cancelled after miraculous cure…more, but that is the gist of it.

It would take more faith to not believe in God than to believe. Why do all people seem to know there is some right and wrong, appreciation of beauty, love, unbelievably beautiful creation and universe that all together just makes no sense not to believe. Having a materialistic world view is silly to me. We are not just a chance product of molecules that will mean nothing later. If so that world view wouldn’t even allow logic, love, right or wrong of any form…makes no sense. A Christian world view opens up and allows for all…easy to believe! Wow!

Do you really think a godless universe would be likely to follow a bunch of conflicting laws than the four (or maybe one) we have? And how would evolved sentient beings survive as a species without “morals” (i.e. rules for peaceful functioning as a society?

I’m sorry if I sound mad here. I’m trying to keep an open mind.

Augustine pretty much sums it up for me.

“Faith is to believe that which you do not see… the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” ~ Saint Augustine

Everyone believes something. Personally I believe I’ll have a glass of milk and a cookie!🙂

I’m thinking perhaps you might have misunderstood me…? I’m a Catholic Christian. What 4 laws are you referring to? My conflict is the atheistic world view, not belief in God.

Because I believe in Love…

And because I have seen man’s inability to Love perfectly without a source outside of himself…That source, that Love…as St John tells us - is God.

Peace
James

Because, as Peter said:

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life"

4000 years of evidence is substantative enough. But I have conducted a field test & have personally witnessed many miracles, prophesies, and a life time of experience that ALL points to the truth of scriptures, and Catholic teachings. If you are sincere in your question, and not just out to bash believers, you will have to change your scientific methods.

Would you use an air pressure gage to measure the distance from California - Ohio? Would you use an odometer to measure the amount of oxygen in the air? So too you cannot use your eyes to see oxygen & yet you know it is there! You need the Holy Spirit to see & understand God & develop a relationship with him.

Ask God for the Holy Spirit, so that you are equipped to learn the things of God. Otherwise, you are a fraud!

How about this, Your Majesty?

You don’t have to be on the Continental Congress to figure it out, either. If you live in a democracy, you’re estopped from being an atheist. No God means no inalienable rights–no God means rights come from men who can take them away. No inalienable rights, no democracy.

Oh, and there’s also these: the Big Bang, thermodynamics, conservation of energy, entropy, and on and on.

Those who have eyes can see.

Is there a place to click for “quick questions to quick answers?”

I believe in God because we humans look outward and beyond ourselves when that’s not necessary for our survival; because we have Art when that is also unnecessary to the continuance of our species; because I lost something when I became an atheist and put my faith only in other humans who let me down over and over - as humans do; because we create music and because the Big Bang came from something which came from something ad infinitum.

Because a man walked on the Moon.

And because a news story about the murder of a young woman upset me so much I cried for ages until I felt the physical presence of an angel comfort me and let me know the victim was in Heaven. It was real, unexpected and uninvited; I had been in tears before and since in similar circumstances but that was the one time I knew that tangible, angelic presence.

Because without God, my soul aches.

Are you looking for an explanation (those are linked) or a rebuttal? If the latter, you won’t find any because none exist.

If you’d like a better explanation, you can let me know.
