Why do you believe in God?

The sun, the moon, the stars, the grand canyon, a new born baby…what about the eye witness accounts of all the miracles of Jesus…why would they lie about the feeding of the 5000, or calming of the sea?

Plenty of evidence!
 
In hindsight… Because God was worth believing in. This might be sentimental more than logical, but an all merciful, loving and just God seemed to be exactly what I needed.

That was my initial motivation anyway. Since then, the experiences I’ve had while growing and seeking in my faith have strengthened my belief in God. The graces of hope and peace I’ve had don’t seem to be products of self-delusion. Doubts do come and go, but they always go in the end.

No more than to say that I believe any other person exists. The difference is that God simply is. He needs no human definition beyond that. We only know what he has revealed about himself, which is sufficient for us to know.

Anyone who reads about the miracle of Lanciano and it’s connection to the Shroud of Turin would say that there is more than enough evidence. It’s not God’s fault that people choose to ignore it.

Actually,there is an entire portion of apologetics devoted to something like that I think.

For example,there are people who provide likely proof the Resurrection most likely occured.Or there is personal experience that contains unexplainable things in it.

Also,as for the Design Argument,it hasn’t faded away.The Design Argument still exists in the form of the Teleological arugment.Basically,the universe is finely tuned and that imples heavily that someone tuned it,and some people arive to the conclusion we can also say it was designed in a way because of that.

Either way,the Teleological argument and the Design argument are linked closely together.

…and because if you ever heard James Brown sing and saw him dance, you’d know that there had to be a God to make a man like that. 😃

God is Love, Beauty, Mystery. A materialist view sucks the joy out of life, for me anyway. Also, it’s only two options- infinite universe or infinite God. There’s no proof either way so given a choice I’ve chosen belief. It’s a more positive experience. Keeps me sane.
