Yeah, and thanks StevieD. The thing I forget sometimes is that because of the harshness of Islam, it is asking a lot of a Muslim to just leave Islam. They leave their family, friends and way too often their lives are at stake.

I have been following this thread without posting. The more I read, the more Islam reminds me of LDS and JW. They pretend to follow the OT and NT, but rewrite the NT to deny the divinity of Christ. They claim to respect Jesus as a great prophet. But the contradiction remains: If Jesus is not the son of God, he is a liar. How can you respect a liar? They have to rewrite the NT to defend their position. Fortunately, there are eyewitness accounts of the death and resurrection of Jesus. There are secular historical accounts verifying the OT and NT as Catholics understand them.

To be Islamist, LDS, or JW is simply a denial of reality.

I would love to see Fundamental Evangelical responses on this thread. I will try to invite some.

You may be a little late to the party. If you read back a little you will see that most of the conversation has had to do with hating Islam the religion and not those who mistakenly follow that path.
And how do you know Christ did not forgive the moneylenders? He chastized them. But it does not say they remained unrepentant or unforgiven.
Just so with the followers of Mohammed. If they repent they will surely be forgiven just as we Christians are when we turn from our sins and ask forgiveness.
Is Islam wrong? Yes. And should we hate wrongness? Yes. But it is the wrongness we hate, not those who do the wrong. For them we pray that they may find salvation through Christ.

The latest ‘Journey Home’ edition on EWTN (15/6/06) is about a muslim lady who became a Catholic many years ago (watch/listen to it on the archives). Her family were very loving but they still tried to stop her going out after her conversion and her mother said that she would have preferred an illegitimate grandchild to a conversion in the family. They ceased contact with her several times after her escape from them. At least they didn’t assault or kill her as would have happened in some muslim families nor did they force her into a ‘suitable’ marriage. We’ve only heard of her because her parents were so ‘tolerant’.

Stevie, It happens in all faiths.many high level christians have embraced islam. They are very good Muslims now. Parents should not harass the converts.

I don’t think that’s fair at all. Americans and Christians help Muslim countries a LOT. We give food aid to the Sudan. We helped Bosnia fight the Serbs. We are giving food aid to Afghanistan and refugee camps in Pakistan.

Most Christians who comment that we hate Muslims, I do not think have a clue as to what is happening in Muslim lands to non-Muslims. Their news sources are bare of any news and in fact, usually only hone in on the Muslims who are wailing and whining that they are the victims without giving a true picture of what is happening over there.

They NEVER tell their audience that the day after a cease fire with Israel the Muslims started lobbing bombs into ISrael. All was well with the Muslims when that starts happening so it is a ‘no news day’ for the liberal press. They NEVER tell of the persecution of Christians, or of the Hindus in India, because, to be quite frank, the liberal press really doesn’t care.

This is so true. All over Germany there are memorials to “Never again.” Many churches and buildings remain as they were in 1945 - bombed out shells - as reminders of the evil of war.

The answer is not “never again.” There is no answer. The question is WHY? Look what’s happening in Iran. WHY?? Look what is happening to Christians in Iraq, India, Indonesia. WHY?

There is objective truth. We have an innate right to love, to freedom of religion, to self-actualization. Our country has so much wealth. It is our duty to help others who don’t have what we have. We cannot just sit on the sidelines and say, “It is too bad they are slaughtering their citizens. That is not our problem.” We are called to be Good Samaritans.
