Why do you think God allowed Protestantism?

No feminist needs to say anything about Aquinas (or Martin Luther) being sexist - their own words speak for themselves. It is not a pretty part of Christian history:

Aquinas insisted that every woman is birth-defective, an imperfect male begotten that way because her father was either ill, debilitated, or in a sinful condition at the time of her conception. “As regards the individual nature, woman is defective and misbegotten, for the active power of the male seed tends to the production of a perfect likeness in the masculine sex; while the production of a woman comes from a defect in the active power.” -Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae, Ia, q. 92, a. 1, Obj. 1

Martin Luther: “If women get tired and die of bearing, there is no harm in that; let them die as long as they bear; there is no harm in that.” - from Luther’s Essays

No argument that St. Thomas was brilliant. But he wasn’t perfect. Neither was Father Luther.
🙂 Lets not forget Gen:1:27,28,29,30

The quote you provided does not substantiate this explanation.
“As regards the individual nature, woman is defective and misbegotten, for the active power of the male seed tends to the production of a perfect likeness in the masculine sex; while the production of a woman comes from a defect in the active power.” -Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae, Ia, q. 92, a. 1, Obj. 1
Here is the rest of the context, and I would like to add that this quote must be understood in both the historical and scientific context in which it was written.
On the other hand, as regards human nature in general, woman is not misbegotten, but is included in nature’s intention as directed to the work of generation. Now the general intention of nature depends on God, Who is the universal Author of nature. Therefore, in producing nature, God formed not only the male but also the female. newadvent.org/summa/1092.htm
We also must understand what objection St. Thomas was answering and to what audience he was writing. Granted, St. Thomas’s writings are not infallible, but as you are protestant, you would not even view the Catholic Church as an infallible source either (despite the fact that she is the compiler of the canon of Scripture, which you may or may not view as an infallible collection of inspired writings, depending on your theological slant). Anyway, we again digress off topic…

If you read the WHOLE Summa, you see that Aquinas had a difficult time reconciling this issue (God’s creation of man). Not surprising - even the Summa is at best, limited - as we all are when it comes to matters of the Almighty.

You misread me very much if you think I am showing disrespect for Aquinas (or, for that matter, any of the ECF’s), or for that matter any disrespect for Catholicism.

thank you… I guess… 😃

Name one or two reasons you think God allowed Protestantism.

I think one reason might be that Catholicism is so… difficult, that maybe God wanted there to be an “easier, softer” way that would lead people to Christ (and He knew that many would then be led to the RC Church)?? Just a thought.

Also, i think that Protestants generally focus on different things than Catholics do, different “aspects” of God, things that are nonetheless very important… like, well… i just think that sometimes they are more… friendly… & i feel they may trust in God’s mercy more than a lot of Catholics…
God does not allow protestantism, free will does.

no one is denying that…

but… God could have intervened… He could have given Luther a terminal disease before he went too far…

as it happend Luther did die fairly young… and he died right after cursing the pope, laughing because the pope had died…

Can God work against Himself? can He built a House and try to destroy it? if Jesus could not make everyone to believe in Him when He was walking with them, what makes you think that all people would believe in His Church today?

are you kidding??

I DON"T… It is one of my greatest crosses in life that people reject His Church… even those who are in it…

But thanks for making this point… a good reminder to all we Catholics who get discouraged…

Catholics face many oppositions. as it was at the time of the Apostles. many has left the faith due to lies from the enemies of God and His Church. but we bare responsibilities of seeking the Truth. therefore those leaving the Truth for a lie shall reap the results for not seek to discern the Truth. remember the times of the Adam and Eve? remember what our Lord did to them?

you mean what they did to themselves… .with the help of the evil one…

exactly.
because of their disobedience they were coursed by our God. is this not what happened??

is it not what is happening today? out Lord built a house and many says is not true. there is no church built by Christ. does this remind us of what happened in the Garden?

yes…

and those Protestants claim to know the bible so well… David wanted to build a “house” for the ark (for God) and God said that (something to the effect): I"m God, i don’t need a house (etc) but then He went ahead and allowed him to make a house for him anyway…

which brings up the fact that if God had an Ark in the old days… Why wouldn’t he have one NOW??? The Church is the Ark… as i see it … and Jesus is There (Real Presence) 24/7…🙂

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Free will, you think?

Without it, might as well be a robot.

Peace>>>AJ

yes. and because of free will, man can be very dangerous. and that is why Jesus gave us a Church and promise Himself the gates of hell would not prevail against Her. it doesnt matter how many come against this Church, it will not succeed.

protestants convinced themselves that if they just read the Bible they will understand everything and they dont need this Church that Jesus built. by that they became blind and no longer hear the Truth. they made themselves authority of the Bible. it is a difficult situation for the Church. but it the wish of the Church that many will return. some will, others i dont know.

Watch Fr. John Corapi’s video no why God allows evil, pain, and suffering. Why doesn’t God intervene whenever someone rapes someone, takes the life of the innocent, or when government leaders commit genocide. Why didn’t he give Hitler a terminal illness? Ultimately we know that from all evil comes a greater good even if we can’t see or understand what that good is. In the case of protestantism, God did not permit heresy in order to save more people, as someone tried to propose on here earlier.

The reason God permits protestantism is the same that he permits other evils to occur and other false religions to exist. Ultimately, people will see the futility of doing things their own way rather than God’s way. One great proof to Catholicism’s truth is what happened when people tried to interpret the Bible on their own: thousands and thousands of different denominations and within them, more divisions and disagreements on virtually every issue in the Book. Thank God for his truth that we know through his holy Catholic Church because it is he who has revealed it through his Church, he who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

i dont think people realize what is really going. the desecration of the Word of God. how many are using the SS in a blasphemic ways. mega churches popping up everywhere making many rich. churches leaders going to prison for deceiving others using the Word of God, and coming back and do the same all over again. people are so blind they continue in deceitfull believes. we must not close our eyes to what is really going out there. we should not be afraid to speak out. it is out of control. any one can just pick up the Bible and do whatever they want with it.

Jesus had no judgment for anyone, where do we get ours?

Cr 10:29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another [man’s] conscience?
