Why do you think Jesus never got married?

He did. Read the book of Revelation. Wonderful wedding there towards the end.

Okay, I know what you mean. Let me ask you…to what end would his marriage be? What would be its purpose?

The Son of God became flesh to save the world from hell.
He was completely sinless like His glorious Mother, Mary. She knew no man, Jesus knew no woman. Marriage is for pro-creation of a family, children. Jesus knew he would die at an early age. He was specific in giving his mother to John His deciple, not a wife to him.
:):):):):)🙂
Happy New Year!!!

I believe Jesus did not get married because being one third of the divine trinity transcends what any of us human beings are.

The only human being that was closest to Jesus in holiness was his blessed mother Mary who was born without the stain of original sin.

Nobody is born with an original sin, but if you mean a sinner nature, then no: Mary had a sinner nature. If she wouldn’t, that would mean that Jesus’ flesh was some sort of “royal” flesh and that He was not like us. If He was not like us, His sacrifice would be useless.

About the main question: I believe that there would be problems with His descendants. Besides, He came for all of us, not for a woman. He surely fell for somebody because He had to endure everything we pass to, but He didn’t sin.

Speculation only and all “perhaps’s” and “possibly’s”. Perhaps it was Charity. Jesus was intelligent and witnessed how and why His cousin, John, died and murdered for criticizing the establishment of his day and Jesus took exactly the same road almost. Perhaps He realized that the possibilities were very high that He would be executed/murdered like John and wanted to spare a wife and having a wife to spare also any children?
Perhaps He wanted to focus totally and solely on His Mission and teaching His apostles and disciples to the exclusion of all else? Perhaps His Mission and the establishment of His Church was His great love. It is said that a revolutionary will stop for love but for romance, never. And the one great love of the revolutionary is the revolution.
Perhaps He just never fell in love in the ordinary course that invited marriage and possibly children?

Read the Bible, it explicitly states many times Jesus married the Church.

That doesn’t make any sense… of course He is both God and man, which doesn’t invalidate His sacrifice.

And where do you get the idea that Mary had a sinner nature? That is not at all biblical.

I think the above reply is way off.*

To clarify, I meant, why do you think Jesus didn’t marry a woman? Not, why did Jesus not marry the Church.

My two cents based on St. Paul and the Gospel:

Jesus didn’t marry so as to dedicate Himself completely to His Ministry. Besides, didn’t Jesus Himself say there would be those who would forsake marriage for the sake of the Kingdom? (Matthew 19).

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

“All” means all humans. Since glory of God comes from God, God does not sin; since Jesus is God, we understand that Jesus did not sin, but, since He was human as well, He had a sinner nature. That is why He is called human. To have a sinner nature, you must be born from another person with a sinner nature, which is Mary. With logical deduction, we understand that Mary was a sinner, and that she had a sinner nature. By “sinner” I do not mean that she was a pagan, but I mean that she had a sinner nature, which is flesh. By sinner I mean that she has a law of sin inside her, like the one Paul speaks in Romans 7:14-25. It is written that Jesus was like us (if He shared our happiness He also shared our suffering and temptation), with a sinner nature:

Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. (Hebrews 2:14-15)

For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because He himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.

But He did not obey His nature’s law (sin) but He obeyed God’s Law which is holy, just and perfect. (Paul speaks more about these two laws in Romans 7:14-25)

So, in order for Jesus to be “priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek” (Psalms 110:4) He must be like us, to be our Brother. Because when a high priest gives gifts and makes sacrifices, he makes them for his sins and for the sins of his people. Jesus did not sin, but He took His people’s sins upon Himself, and sacrificed Himself in order to pay the price for the sin. Paul explains it better, in my opinion:

*Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.

No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. So Christ also did not take upon Himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to Him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” And He says in another place, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverent submission. Although He was a son, He learned obedience from what He suffered and, once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.* (Hebrews 5:1-10)

This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever. (Hebrews 7:1-3)

*If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come—one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, but He became a priest with an oath when God said to Him: "The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind: ‘You are a priest forever.’ " Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.

Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for His own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.* (Hebrews 11:27)

(PART 1)

(PART 2)

If Mary wouldn’t have had a sinner nature, Jesus wouldn’t as well. If Jesus wouldn’t have been like us, He couldn’t have become our high priest, because high priests are chosen from among men. He became like us in order to be our high priest. He had to be like us in every aspect, because our high priest must be chosen from among us. We need a high priest to present our sins to God and make the sacrifice for sins. He sacrificed himself for our sins. His sacrifice was the only one, because there is no need for another.

As you see, Jesus had to have a sinner nature, because His mission was in becoming our high priest. In order to have a sinner nature, He must be born from a sinner woman.

Easy to understand, really.

note- there are many other things I could tell you, but these are enough, in my opinion, to understand what there is to understand about Mary’s necessity of having a sinner nature

To clarify, I meant, why do you think Jesus didn’t marry a woman? Not, why did Jesus not marry the Church.
In his book, Teach Us to Pray, Dom Andre Louf speaks to your question:
"Jesus not only became a human being, but also a man, a person of the male sex. That is not something either accidental or arbitrary. The possibility that God could become a human being was latent only in the male sex. The man, after all, is a symbol of God’s mighty Love, the Love that redeems and saves. Whereas woman represents the humanity that God has chosen for redemption and bliss [the Church]. That is why Jesus was bound to become a man. In the male sex the profound mystery of His being was prefigured: Jesus is the very image of the Father, His Love, faithful and strong, for human beings.
"But there the symbolic value of Jesus’ masculinity stops. Or rather, it is already as complete as it could be. To take one step further and enter upon marriage here on earth with a concrete woman, that for Jesus would have been a nonsense. In the mystery of His proper nature, He, The God-Man, has received more than marriage with just one woman could give. For it is He Himself who give purpose and meaning to every marriege between human beings.
"On the one hand the fulness of God’s Love was in Him, God’s tenderness as well as His toughness, for He was Himself God. On the other hand in His twofold nature, as God and man, He was the peerless marriage, the perfect conjunction, in His own person, between the redeeming God and redeemed humanity. In His divine nature He is the gift beyond measure, and in His humanity He is receptiveness par excellence. Thus in His emotional and sexual life as a man all tension was resolved. For His love was already satisfied and sated, was deeper and wider than He could have experience in a marriage. His physical status as man-and-celibate is the token of this.
"Therefore Jesus qua man had also to remain virginal. In that virginity of His, the conscious and unconscious sexual dynamic, the masculine and the feminine pole in Him, are put wholly at the service of the spiritual reality which He is and to which He comes to bear witness: He is the Son of His Father and His image; among human beings He is the firstborn from the dead, the new man, or rather: the Man, simply the Man, Ecce Homo!
"Jesus’ unique situation did not preclude a bond with woman. He counted women among His acquaintances, intimate friends, fellow-workers. In particular He had a mother; for like all human beings He was born of a woman. What is most remarkable is that this bond with His mother soon expanded into something much broader and universal. For from the very start every woman was more to Him that she was in her concrete and limited femininity. And all that she could be for Him Jesus had already been provided with in His own person. Thus Mary was not only His mother, but still more His sister, His bride, His daughter, and eventually His most intimate companion and the mother of all people.
“We see in Jesus how sexual abstinence can bring out the profound spiritual reality of a person. It helps to lift man’s whole sexual potential on to another plane, where it can develop and be fulfilled without ceasing to be male or female. This fulfilment of human sexuality far transcends the gratification of its transient and constricted eroticism - a fact that will surprise no one who realizes how closely the whole of sex is interwoven with the image of God in man,” Teach Us to Pray, by Andre Louf, Paulist Press, 1975.

For the sake of the kingdom of God.
But he said to them, “Not all men can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it” (Matt 19:11-12)

Mary was without Original Sin, she was made perfect just as **Eve before her Sin **was committed, thus if she was not she could not have had Christ inside her womb for there is no way God would of put himself in a sinful being.
First look at Exodus 25:8-9 ** "They shall make a sanctuary for me, that I may dwell in their midst. This Dwelling and all its furnishings you shall make EXACTLY according **to the pattern that I will now show you.
Continue reading **Exodus Chapters 25-30 **and you will see how particular God is about **his ark **that he dwells. Mary was the **new Ark **and was made just as perfect as the old one that housed God initially.

Sirach 24:8-9 “Then the Creator of all gave me his command, and he who formed me chose the spot for my tent, Saying In Jacob make your dwelling, in Israel your inheritance.

This Tent is Mary whom was the new Ark where God Dwelled and was transformed into the flesh, all human because of Mary, and all God because of the Holy Spirit.

**Luke 1:28 **And coming to her he said, “Hell Favored one! The Lord is with you.” (this is what the angel Gabriel said to Mary) she is favored by God because she is Holy.

Luke 1:41-42 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” (so now the Holy Spirit calls out through Elizabeth Mary is blessed)

God made Mary for this Purpose and he would not allow his only Son to be born of a sinful women. Mary’s ability to resist sin is only by God’s grace and divine power, and if Mary is the Mother of God, which she is according to the scripture she is Holy, because **God is Holy **and nothing that could have given birth to him could ever be any different.

Revelation 12:1 A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Mary is mother of the Church by Christ authority, cloth with the sun reveals that she is cloth so heavily with Christ’s Righteousness that his glory shinning from her is as bright as the sun so to tell us that her Holiness because of him is more then we can see just as we cannot see the fullness of the sun because it is too bright.

How is she the Mother, Christ made her the apostles mother while she stood beneath the cross see John
**John 19:26-27 **When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Women, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

The above was in reply to Cristian B regarding Mary…

1 Timothy 3:15 But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth. Undeniably great is the mystery of devotion.

**Our Holy Catholic Church **is Such that Paul is talking about, it is the church he took part in starting and truth is revealed through the scriptures, and the Church and what has been revealed is **Mary was Born without Original Sin **so following the words of Paul I believe in this pillar of Truth and Stand by what it taught.
