I don’t understand why God seems so silent. If he loves us so much, why doesn’t he make himself more perceptible? The standard argument I get is that it is because he loves us so much and if he did this it would infringe on our free will. This seems flimsy to me…if I wanted someone to love me, I would make sure they knew I did and communicate with them often. I know another argument is that God communicates through the sacraments and during prayer. However, these moments seem open to interpretation–they could be seen as nothing out of the ordinary by the skeptic or those low on faith. Others say we have the bible but these words do not seem to “pop off the page” as truly extraordinary…and it all seems to be set in the distant past. I’ve also heard that our human bodies are not capable of perceiving God if he appeared to us or spoke to us directly. However, in the Old Testament some (Adam, Eve, Moses, etc) are said to have heard God’s voice. Why not a clear communication with His people today?
You actually can hear God’s voice, in your head, if you do some things “God’s way.”
Try the “Prayer Experiment,” as follows.
Life, with its sharp teeth, chases us all down the street, like a vicious, barking dog.
Finally, life wins, and we collapse and die.
But loving God will answer prayers, in the interim. Why? Because He loves us.
So, when you have a need, whether it arises from your own fault or not, do the following.
Pray to God, with absolute faith that the Invisible, Unprovable God will help in the way needed in response.
If you can’t pray with absolute faith as described, pray to the loving God in the darkness Whom you doubt to give you the faith needed. It will come instantly.
THEN pray your request.
Follow the KISS rule – keep it short and simple. Don’t assume that you know the solution.
Only say the request pray ONCE. (Repeating it – “God, ya gotta help me! God, ya gotta help me! God, ya gotta help me!” – is to LACK faith, isn’t it?)
Then, spend the rest of your time praising God for what He HAS given you.
I swear to you that your prayer will have ALREADY been answered.
When you PERCEIVE the answer, you will actually hear God talking to you. This thought will jump into your head, in your own mind’s voice, and have a life of its own, when it does…
"Here is the answer to your prayer, emergingfaith."
That will actually be your silent God talking to you!
Try it, and report back to us!
