You choose to believe that Mohammed is a prophet with no proof!
Whoa, whoa, hold on.

I’m not muslim! I was born and raised a Catholic but you could call me an atheist. After getting my confirmation at the age of 16 I stopped going to church and I never believed in the whole Christian thing. My mom asked me to go on with the formalities so I did.

Oh, yes, there is a universal truth, but it’s only revealed to those who are humble and receptive to it!
Look, the truth is you don’t know what the truth is. None of us does. You choose to believe something, someone else chooses to believe something else.

I am happy to see that your faith is so strong that you are convinced that it’s the one real truth, it comes useful in life to believe in something in such a way because it makes certain obstacles easier to overcome.

Im sure you have read our bible and you are familiar with the words of Christ Himself. Yes, we do believe that Christ said these words (usually printed in red) and for us it is not a matter of whom one believes. If Christ, who is God, Incarnate, came to earth to redeem mankind there is not reason to believe that anyone coming after Him claiming, as Muhammend did, has any credibility whatsoever. Islam is a hoax. If not then we Christians have been wasting a lot of time in following a false religion and we are condemned to hell.
My point is, you believe that he was son of god/God, and someone else doesn’t. There is no real proof, so noone can tell wether Christianity or Islam is the hoax. Noone can tell who will go to hell, noone can even tell wether or not hell exists.

It’s all personal beliefe. I myself believe that hell doesn’t exist, and I do not believe that Christianity or Islam is right about that matter.

I do not go to church and do not concider my self to be a Christian but my way of life is much closer to Jesus’ teachings than that of most (or all) Catholics I know.

we find plenty unless you want to hear Jesus saying : hey people! am God! worship me!

to understand who Jesus is, you must understand what he did and said.
I am only speaking of the authors of the gospels. There is nothing in the gospels to lead us to believe they thought Jesus was God. If a man turned out to be God, I’d say that might be important enough to relate in a biographical piece.

what does it say in your opinion?
who said he didnt? did you even read the bible?
In my opoinion it says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the WORD WAS GOD.”

I say the authors of the gospels didn’t say Jesus was God. I read the gospels. That’s whay I say that.

we believe what the apostles wrote to us Islam has nothing to do with our scriptures…mohammad is Jesus’ opposite.
Noone can tell who will go to hell, noone can even tell wether or not hell exists.
you either accept the bible or you dont…if you have seen exorcism, you’d have believed in satan and hell.

this is already something positive.

Sounds like you arent convinced until a log falls on your head from above. Well, maybe it all comes down to faith, but we have historical evidences via the Bible for the Bible is also a history book as well as Holy Scripture. We also have Holy Tradition and the works of the Church Fathers to fall back on. But, if after all these clues as to what transpired 2000 years ago dosnt convince you then I guess you must remain skeptical, but thats your choice. We are all responsible for our own salvation, Im trying hard on working on mine. Good luck to you in the afterlife.

If the author wanted to say Jesus is God, he would have said, “Jesus is God.” Alternatively he could have quoted Jesus saying, “I am God.”

It’s way too important to be in code. I suspect the lack of simple statements is what leads people to look for some code that could be used to support a doctrine that is not supported in the gospels.

The whole situation casts doubt on the idea that early Christians thought Jesus was God.

I observe that subsequent Christian literature has no problem boldly stating that Jesus is God. It’s just those Gospels.

John 1:14

AND THE WORD BECAME FLESH
and made his dwelling among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only Son,
full of grace and truth.

I think people have the belief that Jesus was God before they read the gospels. They just assume the claim is supported by the authors.

I don’t know what John was talking about. But he didn’t tell us Jesus was God. How about the other gospel authors? They didn’t tell us either. I’d say they didn’t believe it.

The Word is the second person of the Blessed Trinity. We hear God through the Word. The Word became flesh and dwelled amongst us. The Word was crucified and rose from the dead. The Word came to redeem mankind.

you did not answer a simple question…who is the “word” according to John?

That’s is certainly not a straight forward statement that Jesus is God. It lends itself to a number of interpretations. Is it reasonable to presume that an author who found out that a man was God might stress the point and make it clear? Without prior knowledge of Christian teachings, why would anyone read the gospels and think the authors considered Jesus to be God?

you say whatever you like…but do not say the gospel doesnt say it coz it’d be an insult to our human intelligence.

That’s all teaching of the Church subsequent to the gospels. I’m just looking at the gospels without any other information. In doing that I don’t see any reason to think the authors considered Jesus to be God.

Salaam George;
George Waters:
The Qur’an may not use the Arabic equivalent of overshadowed, but if God’s will was done through Mary than Jesus was the Son of God through His will if not genetics.
I agree with you that God can perform His Will in the manner that pleases Him: “Lo! the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, then He said unto him: Be! and he is” [Qur’an 3:59]

If the virgin birth was to prove the Sonship of Jesus to God, God would have made it known to the people at the very birth of Jesus. However such is not the case according to the Biblical account. According to that account it looked to everyone looking to Mary from outside that Jesus was the son of Joseph. Why would an event (virgin birth) which would prove the sonship of Jesus to God, be hidden from the people and only inspired to someone to write it down 70 years later?

According to the Biblical account, the Jews wanted Jesus killed because he supposedly made himself the Son of God, which amounted to blasphemy punishable by death. When I read the Bible, I think the Jews had all the right to reject such a supposed claim, because according to the biblical account it was Joseph who was the supposed father of Jesus. From being the son of Joseph, to being the son of God (if son had the meaning we know), it is a very big step, no one would have believed.

When I read in the Bible that people called Jesus son of God, despite not even knowing about his virgin birth, to me it simply means that son of God did not have the meaning which was given to it later on; but it meant to say something else, like a righteous man. And Yes, Jesus PBUH) was a righteous man, a prophet and a messenger from Allah (SWT) to the Children of Israel.

PS: Now I am aware that calling Jesus a simple prophet or saying peace be upon him after his name is offending to some of my Christian Brethren who believe he is God and Son of God. To them I present my apologies, but I reassure them that I don’t do that out of respect for the man, far from it, I love him along with his pious mother and I only express my belief about both of them, but what I am saying…most of you already know this.

Salaam.
Joseph.

I say the gospel authors didn’t think Jesus was God because they didn’t say so. I say this because I read the gospels.

If it is an insult to intelligence to contend the authors of the gospels didn’t think Jesus was God, then it should be very easy to refute that idea. Just show where each author tells us Jesus was God. (Hint: you won’t find it.)

unfortunatly, we are limited by a certain numbers of words…however, John is saying the word is God, yet continues to explain who the word is…all these, if you do not understand what John meant, then you don’t want to understand; in fact, to those who dont want to believe Jesus is God, they attack John’s gospel coz it focuses on Jesus the God…ironically enough, to you, it doesnt…speaks a lot…it does not need a university degree to understand what John was talking about…

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, " Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah: and still others, Jeremiah of one of the prophets". But what about you? He asked (Peter). “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, " You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven”.

Matt 16:13-17

I would say that this is right out of the Masters mouth and for my money that proves who Jesus really was. Now if this were the only prove it still may be a little shaky but He rose from the dead to prove His Divinity.
