So there is no muslem explanation for why Jesus is considered a prophet other than mohamed said so. can someone point me to where in the islamic texts he said this so i can understand it better? also, in addition to mohamed and Jesus, who else is considered a prophet in islam and why? are there certain OT prophets that made the grade as well? what did they prophesy in the eyes of islam?

So there is no muslem explanation for why Jesus is considered a prophet
Here is a definition of prophet: “A prophet is a person who is believed to speak through divine inspiration. Prophets claim to speak for God (or the gods), with the purpose of delivering a divinely inspired message. A prophet often operates through some means of divination or channeling. The process of receiving a message from God (or the gods) is known either as prophecy or as revelation. (In this sense, the terms are synonyms.)” Source
This is what Muslims believe Jesus (PBUH) to be.

Jesus is cited many times in the holy Qur’an, but here are some of the verses which may be of some interest to your inquiry.

===============================================
“And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah”. (Qur’an 005.046)

"Then will Allah say: “O Jesus the son of Mary! Recount My favour to thee and to thy mother. Behold! I strengthened thee with the holy spirit, so that thou didst speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. Behold! I taught thee the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird by My leave, and thou healest those born blind, and the lepers, by My leave. And behold! thou bringest forth the dead by My leave. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to) thee when thou didst show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: 'This is nothing but evident magic” (Qur’an 005.110)

"And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said: “O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving Glad Tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad.” But when he came to them with Clear Signs, they said, “this is evident sorcery!”(Qur’an 061.006)

“Then, in their wake, We followed them up with (others of) Our messengers: We sent after them Jesus the son of Mary, and bestowed on him the Gospel; and We ordained in the hearts of those who followed him Compassion and Mercy. But the Monasticism which they invented for themselves, We did not prescribe for them: (We commanded) only the seeking for the Good Pleasure of Allah; but that they did not foster as they should have done. Yet We bestowed, on those among them who believed, their (due) reward, but many of them are rebellious transgressors”.(Qur’an 057.027)

"When Jesus came with Clear Signs, he said: "Now have I come to you with Wisdom, and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) on which ye dispute: therefore fear Allah and obey me.(Qur’an 043.063)

There are many as can be seen here
what did they prophesy in the eyes of islam?
I think the link above gives the names of the prophets and the Quranic verses were they are cited and the context of their prophethood.

Thanks Joseph. Not sure why this was so hard to get but it looks very helpful.

"And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel:
but Jesus did not have a gospel, neither his disciples.
"Then will Allah say: thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird by My leave,
taken from Infancy apocryphal Bible as you already know.
and giving Glad Tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad."
where is this?

btw, do you know arabic?

jesus is a prophet in islam because

Jesus believed in One God and preached God’s unity. Jesus was a messenger of God and he did not claim to be anything else. Jesus has said, addressing The Lord: (John 17:3)
“… that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.”
In other words, Jesus says to the Lord: You are the only true God and You have sent me, i.e. I am Your messenger.

Muslims can not get there head aroundthe concept of the Trinity they believe we worship 3 Gods because it is written in the Koran. So the Author of the Koran had to also assign Jesus a roll so he became a prophet.

Peace!
Or, y’know, not.
