Why does most of the Media, Society, hate Catholicism?

They always say stupid things like, “Pedophiles are priests”, all denominations have sickos within them, why is Catholicism always pointed out.
 
Because satan, the accuser of the brethren, only attacks those he considers a threat. Also, the world in general ridicules that which it does not understand. Remember this: Friendship with the world is enmity with God.
 
Hardly these denominations get picked on, but Catholicism does, Jesus said people would hate him and his followers due to Satan.
 
Because the Church teaches one thing (and a very non-modernistic and challenging version of that one thing) and so many of it’s leaders do another by sinning so horribly.

If we stopped preaching on sexuality and marriage we wouldn’t have as many enemies in the media.
 
ok supposed you have an organization that control or affect the life of 1 billion member (around 320 million of them live in the west) , This organization , teach anti-pornography , pro-life , support the family … etc , your organization is blocking many customers from interacting with those companies who produce contraception ,pornography , and stop large people from voting to parties which support this kind of things , so the media want to destroy the church on this basis . The more they attack it , the more people are welling to go to church again and maybe turn their backs on the church.

on the other hand , we should not forget for a second , that there is a big corruption in some leaders of the church , that led to the sex abuse scandals . people who love the church sometimes are blind from saying the truth about the corruption . and that will lead to more problems ,therefore we need to think about the criticism on us ,and think about them seriously not always as anti-catholic, and we should not always play the role of the victim

In large part because the Church refuses to budge on calling sin, sin. This applies especially to “sexual” sin (including abortion). Sex is the secular West’s new god, and abortion is its sacrament, and it will not tolerate dissent.
 
I get fired up by these anti-Catholic people, so I will just stay away from Protestant Chat-Rooms. People there always seem to bring up topics which makes fun of Catholics.

WE need to continue preaching on those two topics if anything. More and more teenagers are having sex, babies, and abortion, transmitting STD’sand you want them to stop preaching about celibacy.
If everyone remained celibate until marriage(or at least until you’ve found a longterm relationship) then the number of AIDS victims would go down, but you want them to stop preahcing about it?
As Catholics we have to stand up for our faith when more and more of the world is attacking it.

Of course we need to keep preaching. Just expect the animosity.

How very Christian of them. 😛

Remember that to many Protestants the Church stands in silent judgement of them. If the Church is right then they are wrong, and so in order for them to be right, they must show that the Church is wrong.

Here is a quote from (later) Cardinal Newman from around 1850. Nothing much has changed:

“If you would have some direct downright proof that Catholicism is what Protestants make it to be, something which will come up to the mark, you must lie; else you will not get beyond feeble suspicions, which may be right, but may be wrong. Hence Protestants are obliged to cut their ninth commandment out of their Decalogue. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” must go, must disappear; their position requires the sacrifice. The substance, the force, the edge of their Tradition is slander….To Protestantism False Witness is the principle of propagation….Taking things as they are, and judging of them by the long run, one may securely say, that the anti-Catholic Tradition could not be kept alive, would die of exhaustion, without a continual supply of fable.”

I forget to mention that England and the US in their traditions and history , had a huge Anti-Catholic history , so people grew up in a world where the church is the Evil thing in their mind .

We teach it now with animosity and most catholic teens think of celibacy as a joke. I think if we were more laid back on it things would get worse. Also sorry if my first post sounded as though i was yelling or being mean i just didn’t know how else to put it and get my point across.
 
Non-Catholic denominations are constantly mocked and generally held in low regard (“hated”). Liberal Christians seem to be the only ones immune.

Welcome to the club! Except that in the case of Jews, it’s not so much the mainstream media and society that hate our religion since it is not currently politically correct to be so open about it. But behind the scenes is another story. Despite this, it is important not to play too much the role of victim or martyr, but instead fight the good fight by adhering to your moral and religious principles.

Right. Judaism is currently under the media’s banner of protection; the public animosity seems to have shifted somewhat to Islam since it is not nearly liberal enough for the media’s taste.

Sometimes I feel that as a white, American, middle-class, male Catholic I am pretty much at the bottom of every categorical totem pole possible :rolleyes:

When it comes to the sex-abuse scandal. I believe there is more than one person at fault. Everyone is guilty to a degree. The Priests for abusing the children. The higher ranked clergy for covering it up, and the media, for painting an unfair portrait of Catholicism. That being said. People like that make up only a small percentage of our Church (1-2%)
 
The Good News is that Jesus Christ does indeed sustain the Church.

In Baltimore, a few years ago when the media was at its utmost in destroying any credibility of the Church, about 1,000 converts joined the Church there.

And fellows who got promptings to become priests but put them aside, were finding that the media assaults and scandal were actually feeding and restoring their call to become priests, and subsequently a number of them did enter seminaries.

Meltzer is right…it is best to try to ignore it…I know in my life time, anti-Catholicism has affected me…but you have to move on and work to come into greater life with the God of life Himself. Life with our Lord is so much more fulfilling than allowing yourself to draw more into it.

I am working on answering comments but just put them in God and move on.
