No they are not “asking for a cloud”. They are holding a liturgy in hopes of witnessing a sign from God at the very place of his transfiguration.
That comment was meant more for the Holy Fire anyway. If it was so silly, then why did Catholic bishops at the tomb of Christ also try to pray for the fire to ignite?
I have a difficult time with God using miracles to point out someone else as ‘less favored’ . It’s like a bad parent pointing out a favored kid to make sure the other knows they aren’t. I just don’t see God doing that.
