They target Catholics because of their need to be recognized as faithful Christians. Remember the name Protestant came from Protester.
And, was this an attempt at *NOT *making us curious?~lol Stop with the carrot!my life story is proof that we need the Church to “tell us what to do”…
but i would prefer no to get into any details about my past…:banghead::hypno:
there seem to be some judgmental people in the world…
(plus i just don’t like to talk about things i can’t change…)

You do know I was agreeing that sometimes we do need to be told what to do? Just couldn’t tell if that was a vent of sorts or in response to a misunderstood “unfortunately”my life story is proof that we need the Church to “tell us what to do”…

Mine are equally stupid, but quite boringwell, would it be good enough to say that… Well… (…as Reagan would say)…
When i was young and stupid…
i was young and stupid…
I was an uncatechized humanoid in an uncatechized world…![]()
Then i prayed the rosary… and that stopped the stupidity… but not the young-ness… Even so, i never committed certain sins again… although i was sorely tempted many many times…
The rosary led me back to the Church… and then i catechized myself… I almost didn’t do that 'cause got this strange, hard-to-explain feeling that if i learned “too much” about the RCC i would… be in for some negative … whatever… and that feeling proved to be true… (many un-Christian people in the Church… hate to sound critical but just my perceptions… there are also many sincere ones…)…
anyway… i know that isn’t givng many details… but you probably don’t want the details of my past anyway…
so… What are the details of YOUR past… ?![]()
Well, I don’t like to “bash” anyone…
It’s starting to sound like bashing to me…
I grew up going to Episcopalian Mass…[still looks extremely similar to me] with a friend. And, I’m not Catholic because I’m afraid to know about other beliefs, but because I have read, heard, discussed, debated, pondered, prayed, and then, studied some theology…and I really like Catholicism and it makes sense to me. It is coherent and consistent. And, one can use reason…as did the great Fathers and Doctors of the Church.
I have friends from all denominations, except the Eastern churches, [because I just don’t know anyone…or we would be friends!], and even other religions. I even have agnostic and atheistic friends. You know what’s funny, regardless of their beliefs or even the warnings of their pastors [which they acted as if these pastors were more infallible than our Pope!], my friends know I truly believe in God…not a made believe one, but a real one.
I have agnostics that thank me for praying for them, and tell me that my prayers did them well…and I am specific…I pray the Rosary & the Divine Mercy Chaplet at the Adoration Chapel…
It’s in the way we say we’ll pray for them…with sincere love, not “over the head with a club”.
In Catholic schools children do research on comparison and contrast with other denominations, and my son’s topic was Lutheranism. I helped him edit [for grammar/spelling] and I learned quite a bit. It is very similar to Catholicism. Less Sacraments, but the Real Presence is there. They do follow the early councils. The same creeds. I was a little confused about one thing, but all beliefs will have what seem as inconsistencies until one learns more.
I am grateful that Jesus did not say we had to be pious, nor scholarly, nor successful, nor anything else! What kind of religious leader does not demand followers to become wise or fierce or pious or right…?
Oh, well…that’s why I hear His voice and follow it…
Let’s pray more this week…![]()

Have you ever read the Book of Concord to see how much of it Luther actually wrote, and to see the authorities cited in it? Be honest. If you based your beliefs on the Scriptures, ECFs, and early councils, then you would be Catholic. Be honest. Lutherans base their beliefs on Martin Luther and the progressive watering down of the faith for 400 years.![]()

I don’t know how many times we (Jon and I, among others) have gone over this in different threads, but we Lutherans do not base our beliefs on Martin Luther. To be sure, he did some good teaching and we treasure that. However, the basis of Lutheran faith existed long before Luther.
Many Catholics proclaim themselves as Catholics only because it is tradition. I don’t think it is necessarily a larger target than any other religion.Just wondering. I know that most non-Catholic Churches like to brag that they have lots of “ex-Catholics” in their ranks. But it seems to me that Catholics are everybody’s primary/favorite group to target for attack and conversion.
Are you out of your ever-loving mind??? More than half of all Christians are Catholics. In my area about 30% of the population is Catholic, if not more. Many Catholics proclaim themselves as Catholics only because it is tradition. And your point?? The whole world appears to be Catholic(jk), but really thought, there are loads of them. That doesn’t make them a specific target. Not everyone is out to get the Catholics. Are you out of your ever-loving mind??? More than half of all Christians are Catholics. In my area about 30% of the population is Catholic, if not more.

For what little I know of Lutheranism, it’s true, the main beliefs are early church creeds and church fathers. I guess it’s the name, Lutheranism…that doesn’t help people to differentiate between the founder and the set of beliefs. And, we can’t help wishing that he had reformed the church from within [as others have done] rather than starting anew…but some things neither you nor I can change!Carl,

One thing I like about Lutheranism is that the Athanasian Creed is more prominently talked about, than among Catholics, at least Latin Rite. Now, that creed is one beautiful piece of wisdom!
Lutherans consider themselves Catholic, right? Like Anglicans & Episcopalians? Is there anyone else that is that similar to Catholicism? [Sacraments, Creeds, Patristics, etc.]
Have a deeply moving and encouraging Holy Week & Easter!![]()
We very much appreciate what your church teaches and that you are required to accept that and do, however there is nothing that “Protestants” do as some group. Many many denominations don’t follow any such thing as self interpretation. Many are so near to you in liturgy and so on that a RC here has actually attended an Episcopal church by mistake and not known the difference. So at best one can say, some Protestants, say, believe, do…etc.First, let me apologize for using the term Prot As a Catholic you know what the Church teaches regarding ecclesisal communities and that the fullness of the faith can only be found in the Catholic Church. Since we are conversing with non Catholic Christians I agree that we must always be charitable, but we NEVER water down the message of Jesus Christ. We must tell the truth to all those who ask. Protestants rely on self interpretation and this is the biggest lie since Eden…as evident by the number of denominations that exist today.
I know you are new here, but please, this is truly outrageous. Most Protestant denominations don’t pay any attention to RC and have no interest in converting anyone. We welcome those who enter our doors and offer them a seat at the table. Your paranoia is over the top. No doubt there are some who do this, but it is a small small minority of fanatics, you do know the meaning of that word correct?Bottom line here is that you and if you have children should NEVER, NEVER attend any non-Catholic bible study or event. Let me stress this even more. Protestants think they are doing God a favor by going after our children, I speak with personal experience. Again. NEVER let your Catholic child attend a Protestant youth gathering.
I would certainly know the difference. The further you get from the truth you closer you get to the lie.We very much appreciate what your church teaches and that you are required to accept that and do, however there is nothing that “Protestants” do as some group. Spirit, Praise God that your church does not participate in this nonsense, but sadly you are in he minority. I am a Catholic convert all my experiences have been hatred from Protestant denominations. I know what gets preached from your pulpits. My daughter was mentally abused in one of these ‘youth faith’ gatherings. Praise God that my wife and I stay close to what our kids are doing.I know you are new here, but please, this is truly outrageous. I just don’t think it is a good approach to discussion to tell someone else what they believe. I think it is better to listen to someone tell you what they believe. But here is the conclusion to the Augsburg Confession:If you based your beliefs on the Scriptures, ECFs, and early councils, then you would be Catholic. Be honest. Lutherans base their beliefs on Martin Luther and the progressive watering down of the faith for 400 years.
JonThese are the chief articles which seem to be in controversy. For although we might have spoken of more abuses, yet, to avoid undue length, we have set forth the chief points, from which the rest may be readily judged. 2] There have been great complaints concerning indulgences, pilgrimages, and the abuse of excommunications. The parishes have been vexed in many ways by the dealers in indulgences. There were endless contentions between the pastors and the monks concerning the parochial right, confessions, burials, sermons on extraordinary occasions, and 3] innumerable other things. Issues of this sort we have passed over so that the chief points in this matter, having been briefly set forth, might be the more readily understood. 4] Nor has anything been here said or adduced to the reproach of any one. 5] **Only those things have been recounted whereof we thought that it was necessary to speak, in order that it might be understood that in doctrine and ceremonies nothing has been received on our part against Scripture or the Church Catholic. For it is manifest that we have taken most diligent care that no new and ungodly doctrine should creep into our churches. **
6] The above articles we desire to present in accordance with the edict of Your Imperial Majesty, in order to exhibit our Confession and let men see a summary of the doctrine of our teachers. 7] If there is anything that any one might desire in this Confession, we are ready, God willing, to present ampler information according to the Scriptures.
I’ll bet you would remain silent when Protestants tell us what we believe!I just don’t think it is a good approach to discussion to tell someone else what they believe. I think it is better to listen to someone tell you what they believe. But here is the conclusion to the Augsburg Confession:
