I’m still waiting for that whole “just a wet baby” citation. sigh Guess I’ll have to start my own thread if I want to find it.
Sorry, back to OP…
Sorry, back to OP…
You know, the funny thing is that I originally said that you would play the “well you just misinterpreted” card but I edited it out at the last moment because I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt and give you an opportunity to show that you’re sincere.Skip, those verses do not say what you think they say.
NO Skip - what you are here to do is hijack this thread. Stay to the OP or the Moderator will close it out. If you want to start yet another fundamentalist thread on baptism start a new one and we will put it to bed again. Why is it that almost every discussion somone tries to start here some fundamentalist wants to try and high-jack it into a different topic? If you can’t interpret the very simply forum rules properly how can anyone trust you to be infallible in your bible interpretation? You know, the funny thing is that I originally said that you would play the “well you just misinterpreted” card but I edited it out at the last moment because I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt and give you an opportunity to show that you’re sincere.
Rather than just sticking your fingers in your ears and saying “LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU!!! YOU’RE JUST MISINTERPRETING!!! LA LA LA…”, how about being a sport and explaining why those two passages don’t really say that we were enemies of God, but have been forgiven and reconciled when we were born again?
I don’t think you can do it but I can’t wait to see the exegetical gymnastics that you’re going to come up with.
Why are you trying to be smarter than GOD?As some of you may know, Bill Maher has a documentary called “Religulous” coming out where I’m guessing he finds the people worst at defending their faiths and basically mocks religion (atleast thats what the trailer shows). Not planning on paying to see this movie, but I may watch it in a way so I don’t contribute financially to it.
But anyways, in the trailer, he’s asking an actor dressed as Jesus something like “Why doesn’t God just obliterate the devil now and get rid of all the evil in the world?”
The guy responds “He will.”
Bill Maher then asks “What’s he waiting for?”
What are good responses to questions like these?
You’ve been around here a while, I’m curious how much you’ve picked up. What do you think the Christian answer is?His question is a very good one, by the way. Why does God tolerate evil, when he has the power to eradicate it? What is the point to tolerate something against your principles, when acting upon those principles is good for everyone?
Really??? I’d love to see you show Bible verses that support genocide, slavery and sexual abuse. I know you won’t, but I’d still be curious to see what verses you think support those things. The Bible says a lot of things. Some are wise, some are true, some are dumb and some are false. If you look hard and long enough you can “dig out” anything from the Bible which will support your position - no matter what it might be - not excluding genocide, slavery, sexual abuse, etc…
When you rebel against God, you make yourself an enemy of His.I am not an “enemy” of God
Actually, the Bible says that sin is the transgression of God’s law. It makes no exception for those who don’t believe in God.I simply do not believe in God or that the Bible is God’s word. Therefore I cannot “sin” because to “sin” one must accept that there is a God, who issued specific commandments and to disobey those commandments is “sin”.
But it isn’t good for everyone. Eradicating evil means eradicating sinful people, which is everyone who is not born again. His question is a very good one, by the way. Why does God tolerate evil, when he has the power to eradicate it? What is the point to tolerate something against your principles, when acting upon those principles is good for everyone?
Actually, everything I’ve said has been directly related to the OP. Nice try, though.NO Skip - what you are here to do is hijack this thread. Stay to the OP or the Moderator will close it out.
Please don’t feed the trolls.
Oh, so now you’re resorting to name calling? I have no patience for childish name calling, so I guess I can cross you off the list.James
Atesista - can you please expand on your logic for this statement ?I am not an “enemy” of God, no matter what the Bible “might” say about it. I simply do not believe in God or that the Bible is God’s word. Therefore I cannot “sin” because to “sin” one must accept that there is a God, who issued specific commandments and to disobey those commandments is “sin”. So I am not evil and neither is Bill Maher. He is a pretty open fellow, who speaks his mind.
I realize that you’re going to tell me I’ve misinterpreted these passages, but if what you’re saying is true, then why does Paul say in Romans 3:10-12 that no one seeks after God and why does Jesus say in John 3 that man’s natural inclination is to rebel against God, not choose Him?And God has enough faith in us to trust us to choose him.
Because we are all open to original sin, This is not Gods world its the devils. Jesus said himself ( this is not exact scripture) but what Jesus said is This is not my world if it were his world we would have not crucified him. I could get you the scripture if you want me to. But the bottom line is its easy to follow the devil, its fun, its easy, you will fit in. But if you follow Jesus you will be hated like Jesus said if the world hates you remember it hated me first. This world does not want to hear the good, it doesnt want to hear how a husband and wife stayed true for 60 years, it wants to hear the dirt, how he cheated. If this was Gods world it would not be so corrupt. What makes people happy? They dont even know anymore. And we have everything. Everything except GOD. If you have God you dont need anything else.I realize that you’re going to tell me I’ve misinterpreted these passages, but if what you’re saying is true, then why does Paul say in Romans 3:10-12 that no one seeks after God and why does Jesus say in John 3 that man’s natural inclination is to rebel against God, not choose Him?
Actually I don’t want to play your argumentative game anymore Skip. Here is a fresh thread somone started to talk about baptism. If you want to go here and talk about baptism they will be happy to entertain you and your questions and correct your errors in scriptural interpretation. If I see some rational insight that is above mere personal opinion I will engage you there. JUST CLICK ON THE BLUE LINK and you will be transported off to a new world of discovery and much more mature insight into scripture. Fasten your seat belt…Actually, everything I’ve said has been directly related to the OP. Nice try, though.

JamesGreetings in Christ,
A Protestant friend and I were discussing the subject of Baptism, in general, not necessarily concerning the method involved. — She said that Baptism was not necessary and cited John 3:16 —In my opinion, baptism is necessary, but that’s my opinion, teaching and understanding according to both the Catholic Church and Holy Scripture .
She also mentioned that she was baptized once by Immersion and then again, in the Methodist Church, was baptized again by sprinkling. I didn’t know what to say. Thanks for any help on this topic…
Dominus Vobiscum,
Jerald Franklin Archer
You’re telling me that God trusts our judgement to choose Him, but I’ve just provided you with two passages of scripture where God says that we don’t/can’t choose Him.Because we are all open to original sin, This is not Gods world its the devils. Jesus said himself ( this is not exact scripture) but what Jesus said is This is not my world if it were his world we would have not crucified him. I could get you the scripture if you want me to. So is the statement “there is none that seeks God” true or false? On Romans 3:10-12. What Paul is saying is however much human beings are unfaithful to the pact , this cannot abroogate Gods Promises. the way human beings behave only makes the promises more remarkable.
Probably something about the “respect” for our free will. But that is a bogus argument. You’ve been around here a while, I’m curious how much you’ve picked up. What do you think the Christian answer is?
I’m intrigued. What would this world be like?Probably something about the “respect” for our free will. But that is a bogus argument.
The free will defense has been refuted many times, most recently in the Philosophy forum, where both SeekingCatholic (who is Catholic) and myself (an atheist) gave a mathematical proof that God could have creted a world with free will and without sin.
Interesting how you seem to need to be unserious at regular intervals here. Not sure why that is.I gave my own answer at the beginning of the thread. God does not obliterate evil for the same reason that the good heroes never “fully” kill the evil opponents in comic strips, because that would be the end of the story. And the show must go on…
Well this is very interesting because you said God does not obiterate evil… But how can you even answer for God when you dont even believe in him? To say what God does or does not do for what reason would be saying he exists!Probably something about the “respect” for our free will. But that is a bogus argument.
