Why doesn't Michael Voris appear on EWTN?

In charity, consider referring to people as their proper name before using pronouns (e.g., “he”), Just for clarity about whom you are speaking. 🙂

That third video you linked, RealCatholicTV’s ******** on Global Warming, that was re-posted on YouTube by ccheng21, not RealCatholicTV. This ccheng21 was responsible for the profane title, as he changed it when he reposted it. There is a little confusion over whether you meant to attribute the profanity to Michael Voris, or this ccheng21 fellow, who appears to be no fan of Voris.
Sorry, I didn’t even know it was not Voris’s word. So I’m sorry for attributing it to him.

But in any case I was not at all trying to make a deal out of it, only that I had just discovered that CAF had an automatic profanity blocker, which I think is really cool.

In the world of profane words, that one isn’t too bad anyway. So let’s not make too much of a deal about it. I’m assuming that CAF is also blocking extremely egregious profanity as well, and it’s a testament to all you for not even knowing about the CAF profanity blocker. You people are very decent and good people!

there are a lot of news storys out there from top scientists , recenntly some top people from NASA that also claim that global warming is a hoax, who do we believe , Politicans or Scientists :confused:we will see in the next thousand years if we are here that long:shrug:
I suppose most people will be finding out long before that…when they go to heaven or that other place.

Just went over more RealCatholicTV anti-environment, anti-environmentalist, anti-AGW, anti-climate scientist bashes. Voris’s ideas are really seriously in the wrong (I’ve been studying the issue very closely for 22 years) and very dangerous, and they go against the teachings of JPII, BXVI, and the U.S. Bishops.

His misrepresentation of and slander against persons, groups, and categories of persons (like environmentalists, bishops, and climate scientists), it seems to me, amounts to serious sin.

Furthermore, this mean and vicious bashing based on ? Limbaugh science ? feeds into the harassment and death threats being made against environmentalists, climate scientists and their children…which for all we know may one day be carried out by some unbalanced persons.

I think he needs our prayers.

With that, I’ll say goodbye to this thread. You all are in my prayers.

My last thought on the warming thing, it reallly doesn’t matter what we think or do , it’s all in G-ds hands:D

I consider Voris’s programs to violate the spirit of Catholicism (if not in all cases the letter), full of vicious and often false slurs, and outright lies, especially what he has to say about global warming.

However, since EWTN isn’t too much better on that score, just a bit milder (and has mild-mannered Exxon-funded spokespersons on to gently dissuade people from mitigating AGW), sure, why not EWTN have Voris on. Birds of a feather…

Both these media outlets are demoralizing to me – tho I loved EWTN’s Catholicism series and also Women of Grace and a few other programs – so it is very good that we have excellent popes in JPII and BXVI to look for for real Catholic guidance.

I would suggest in one’s fervor for Voris and EWTN not to forget the Church’s magisterium and the writings of the Holy Fathers and, of course, the Gospels. If something seems to go against these (which Voris usually does and EWTN sometimes does), bewarethe wolf in Catholic clothing…

One of my young Carmelite sisters is really into Voris, and I’ve tried to no avail to caution her that he violates our spirituality, even if some of the things he says ring true or make sense from a Catholic perspective.
The problem is, and for example let’s take the current case of Christoph Cardinal Schönborn, O.P., in his Archdiocese (Vienna, Austria) he’s got a priest rebellion on his hands. A number of priests are openly defying him vis a vis celebacy, female priests (the usual subjects) his reaction? Pretty much lip service and little else.

Then he has a priest who has a parish advisory committee. An active homosexual is elected to the committee. Priest denies a seat to the flagrant homosexual, who naturally cries about how mean the nasty old priest is. The good cardinal backs the priest. Then he has lunch with the homosexual and his “associate” and changes his mind making public statements about what a sterling fellow the homosexual is and reinstating him to the committee.

The result is the priest (who by all accounts IS the sterling fellow in this debacle) probably because he can’t stand to submit to the authority of a Cardinal Archbishop who actively supports such shenanigans, resigns.

What do you think Voris should say about this public scandal? What do you think you should say? As much good as Cardinal Schonborn has done in his ministerial life, I think this is essentially an unpardonable sin and an active personal contribution to the decline of moral perspective in Vienna, Austria (it can’t decline much further - I’ve been there). The examples go on and on, Washington D.C. 3 weeks ago, etc.

Somebody has got to get these guys to get off the bandwagon of left leaning decisions and all Voris is trying to do is let in the sunshine.

This is where I’m going to be very old-fashioned (which is going to sound odd, because I’m fairly liberal)-he shouldn’t say anything. It isn’t his business. The Vatican can discipline the Cardinal, if they so choose. There are priests who are in a position to speak on this. He is a layperson from another diocese, and so just has nothing to say about it; he isn’t in the chain of command.

I’ll admit (and only for the purposes of trying to prove that I’m not a hypocrite) that there are bishops and cardinals in the United States who, for various reasons, I do not particularly admire. But they are bishops and they are in positions of authority and you have, at the least, to be very measured in how you speak about them. The same goes for priests in general (and brothers and sisters).

I do think there is a middle ground.

On the one hand, I agree that we should respect the chain of command, so to speak, and that if our opinions on how to handle scandals were desired by the powers that be, the bishops/Holy Father would be asking for them.

On the other hand, I do see value in reporting on these matters, for at least two reasons. First, the powers that be may not be aware of some scandals, or they may be aware that they exist, but not be aware of the extent of them. Second, by alerting the general public of these matters, the rest of us may become better able to spot issues ourselves, so that we may know when a whistle needs to be blown (and also, when it doesn’t).

This is true, and I’ll agree with you. However, we should restrict editorial comment to a minimum.

The other exception I should have noted is when a crime is actually being committed; there is a duty to report that to the police. Especially child abuse, but that goes without saying.

As far as AGW is concerned, check this video out. I know Jesse Ventura’s not a Catholic, but the video’s still worth checking out.

I would assume that if this rule applies in one forum, it is applied across all forums on the site:

~Liza
Liza, if you think a post violates the rules of the forum, I think it’s appropriate to use the handy “Report” button instead of trying to moderate yourself, which is, after all, not our job.

If a person who has made themselves a public figure is teaching or preaching falsely, especially when representing themselves as a font of Catholic Truth, then, especially in this forum, it is very appropriate to challenge that.

This thread was bumped by an article about a Diocese not allowing Michael Voris to speak on the grounds of the Diocese because he professes sentiments that are not in keeping with the Church. That is: he misrepresents Church teaching. The Archdiocese of Detroit made it clear publicly it does not endorse his use of the word Catholic for exactly the same reason.

That’s two Bishops (at least) who have given public condemnation to his pronouncements. As faithful Catholics, are we not required to respect the Magesterium?

So when my Carmelite sister sent me a link to RealCatholicTV, and I got on there and saw the false presentations against AGW and against the bishops* (I’m waiting for the one against the popes), I was greatly saddened, and immediately realized that was a dangerous and counter-Catholic site…
I agree. But as to global warming, a lot of us have been talking about it for close to thirty years. Now the ice caps are melting at a rate no one predicted, easily seen in photographs, but, well, “never underestimate the power of denial,” as a great American movie once opined.

As I have also said: it’s a self-correcting problem. Unfortunately, the correction will entail widespread human misery and death. It’s too late to keep whacking our heads against the walls. All we have left is prayer. More prayer.

Michael Voris appeals to people who simply do not want facts to start disturbing their comfortable view of reality in this issue. His bits of mis-information will serve to hasten the destruction, but only the tiniest bit. The momentum was built up long long ago.

Two providential experiences today powerfully spoke to me about the issue with Michael Voris. The tornadoes being reported early this morning by weathermen called the destructive force a “vortex.” Sound familiar? Webster defines *vortex *as a state of affairs likened to a whirlpool for its violent activity, drawing into its powerful current everything that surrounds it. I find it appalling that Voris uses this image of himself as he swings his arms in a circular motion, yet that is what he creates best … destructive, violent turmoils that are not conducive to peace, goodwill, reconciliation.

Today, being Divine Mercy Sunday, I was blessed to attend a day of recollection with this as the topic. How well and succinctly the priest reduced to three short phrases the rationale for our judgments of others, and our willingness to disclose them.
  • Is it true?
  • Is it kind?
  • Is it necessary?
In almost every case, I can attest that SOME of Voris’s accusations MAY be true, but I cannot say the manner in which he publicly divulges them is “kind” nor is it “necessary.” It creates a tornatic vortex of dissension that astounds virtuous people while it incites those of lesser virtue to be pulled into the vortex of his war. It seems very likely that EWTN, et al, used prudence and godly wisdom in screening out such speakers.

We see continuously, his staunch supporter ready to defend all of his actions and accuse those who have “eyes to see” of being uncharitable. I suppose the only ones who have valid license to criticize are Michael Voris and Lizaanne.

May God give us His view on the three points listed above, and open our hearts to learn the deeper message of His mercy.

Not sure if serious or joking. :hmmm:

Sirach is right. Just look at the history of threads about him here. I think every one of them has had to be closed, this is the longest running so far, because of the vitriol.

There’s a better larger issue here than Voris, and that’s what we want as Catholic Christians to fill our minds with. And how we define for ourselves “REAL” Catholic. It says in the catechism that we are all, every human, by vocation, to show forth the image of Christ.

You think Voris is much of an image of the Savior? Not that I am, but then, I’m not all over the world and the internet claiming to be “real Catholic.” No possible way EWTN would legitimize this guy. This is the man who called democracy a failure and advocated the establishment of a Catholic dictatorship.

“Counter-Catholic,” indeed.

Oh I think there are legitimate concerns when it comes to Mr. Voris, but that talk about the tornados being destructive came off as a bit much.

The whole Vortex thing “where lies and falsehoods are trapped and exposed” just strikes me as a knock off of Bill O’Reilly’s gimmick, the “No Spin Zone”. Voris even does the twirl with the pen/pencil in his hand, just like O’Reilly does when he says “And remember, the spin [hand twirl] stops right here.”
