How can a true loving God command his followers to do these?

Qur’an:9:5 “Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”
Hi

I quote the verse from Quran with the context verses:

[9:1] This is a declaration of complete absolution on the part of Allah and His Messenger from all obligation to the idolaters with whom you had made promises.

[9:2] So go about in the land for four months, and know that you cannot frustrate the plan of Allah and that Allah will humiliate the disbelievers.

[9:3] And this is a proclamation from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the Greater Pilgrimage, that Allah is clear of the idolaters, and so is His Messenger. So if you repent, it will be better for you; but if you turn away, then know that you cannot frustrate the plan of Allah. And give tidings of a painful punishment to those who disbelieve,

[9:4] Excepting those of the idolaters with whom you have entered into a treaty and who have not subsequently failed you in anything nor aided anyone against you. So fulfil to these the treaty you have made with them till their term. Surely, Allah loves those who are righteous.

[9:5] And when the forbidden months have passed, kill the idolaters wherever you find them and take them prisoners, and beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent and observe Prayer and pay the Zakat, then leave their way free. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

[9:6] And if anyone of the idolaters ask protection of thee, grant him protection so that he may hear the word of Allah; then convey him to his place of security. That is because they are a people who have no knowledge.

[9:7] How can there be a treaty of these idolaters with Allah and His Messenger, except those with whom you entered into a treaty at the Sacred Mosque? So, as long as they stand true to you, stand true to them. Surely, Allah loves those who are righteous.

[9:8] How can it be when, if they prevail against you, they would not observe any tie of relationship or covenant in respect of you? They would please you with their mouths, while their hearts refuse, and most of them are perfidious.

[9:9] They barter the Signs of Allah for a paltry price and turn men away from His way. Evil indeed is that which they do.

[9:10] They observe not any tie of relationship or covenant in respect of anyone who trusts them. And it is they who are transgressors.

As could be seen from the above verses; these were not for the peaceful and lawabiding citizens;definitely not for the Christians there.

Thanks

Sister Amy…This response does not speak very highly of you. Please do not be childish. I opened this thead to try to understand what intellectual objection Muslims have to Christianity. Oh…I am still praying for you.
I’m not here to try and impress you. How would you respond if someone called your God a barbarian? I chose to laugh at the person attacking me. If that bothers you, perhaps you could have a word with Vickie dearest and explain that her behavior is derailing your thread. 🤷

ps: :rotfl:

Is your love of Allah real, or do you just follow all the motions simply out of fear? For instance, if a Muslim does not do the 5 obligatory prayers, isn’t he putting himself in danger of going to hell?

Vickie
Yes, my love of Allah is real. Here’s something to think about. I have to get up and pray at 6am (5:45-7ish). Usually, when my alarm goes off, I’m thinking of sparing myself punishment.

But some days I get up and pray at 4am–a prayer that I don’t have to pray. It’s not obligatory. Does your love for God compel you to rise at 4am–or even 6am–and spend some time in prayer?

I think you shouldn’t make judgments about how much I love Allah. If you feel the need to insult or ridicule the worship that I do, perhaps you should wrestle with why your own worship rituals seem inadequate.

Does pain normally elicit a humorous response?

Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that Allah would never expose their [feelings of] hatred?

And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allah knows your deeds.

And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah ] and the patient, and We will test your affairs.

Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allah and opposed the Messenger after guidance had become clear to them - never will they harm Allah at all, and He will render worthless their deeds.

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.

Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allah and then died while they were disbelievers - never will Allah forgive them.

Perhaps I am not making myself clear. I would like to know WHY you believe the Qur’an is reliable. This requires some thinking and research. By the way, this sura was recited by Ali to the Pagans the year before, Muslims invaded Mecca. It is the only sura that does not begin with the Basmallah, because it was tantamount to a declaration of war. But you may not know that, since you don’t accept Hadeeth. For the Christians on this thread: paarsurrey does not represent the opinions of the majority of Muslims. In fact, there are viewed as heretics by 85% of Muslims, at least. They are like Jehovah’s Witnesses.

God commands us to never cease in prayer

I would respond with reasoning, rationality, and charity.

Ok…let’s try this again

Hello,
I am a former Muslim and I have a question for all the Muslims on this list. Why don’t you become a Christian; or, more specifically, a Catholic Christian?

My prayer life is none of your concern! I asked you a question. You’ve been attacking my faith constantly and Islam and its beliefs are not above criticism.

Hello,
I am a former Muslim and I have a question for all the Muslims on this list. Why don’t you become a Christian; or, more specifically, a Catholic Christian?
Hello,
I am a former Christian and I have an answer for all the Christians on this list!

Jesus Christ, the Messenger of Allah, was the second to last Messenger sent to mankind. He was followed by Muhammad, to whom Allah revealed the Qur’an through the Angel Gabriel. The Qur’an, a recitation from the Lord of the Worlds, has been preserved in its entirety since its revelation, a miraculous revelation for all of mankind to teach the people about their Lord, Allah, and His Messengers, and the Final Day.

Because the Qur’an is the final revelation, it includes all aspects of belief–which means, not just believing in Jesus Christ but also believing in Muhammad.

To become a Christian after Islam would be to reject belief which God has taught us, to reject God’s message, and His Messenger. It would be a severe demonstration of ingratitude and arrogance to reject the Mercy and Wisdom and Guidance of Our Lord.

I keep God in my heart and mind and with me at all times
Yes of course. While you are eating? While you are working? While you are watching TV?

But how often do you give Him your complete and undivided attention? That was my question.

My prayer life is none of your concern! I asked you a question. You’ve been attacking my faith constantly and Islam and its beliefs are not above criticism.

Vickie
I don’t think I have once attacked your faith. Not once. If I did, please forgive me.

I asked you a question about your prayer life, and now you’ve gotten defensive. Yet weren’t you just inquiring about mine? About my love for God, specifically. If it’s such a personal matter, why were you asking me about it in the first place?
