Some people on the board are seeking answers (Catholic Answers) to tough issues. Please be kind and patient with them.

If you are insulted (which probably was not the posters intent), turn the other cheek and seek to help them in Christian charity. There is a time & place for debate and “hotter discussions”, it doesn’t seem this thread is such a place. The aim should be reconcilliation, not “you stepped on my toes”.

Defend the faith with all due charity.

Mr Jullien,
Your post is an example of the reason why I left the Church of my youth many years ago. I find more love in the gay community than I ever found growing up Catholic. If yours is a example of Christian charity, I can do without it.
It’s a pity you blame people who have a deep love of and strong convictions about the CC and its Doctrines and teachings, for leaving. IMHO, that’s no excuse.

I personally don’t think it fair or charitable of you to place blame on someone who’s only trying to defend the CC. Maybe you don’t like the way he’s doing it, but at least he’s being honest.

If the OP cited her real reasons for leaving the CC in her original post, I think a lot of this unpleasantness would have been avoided.

God Bless!

And if acceptance by the homosexual community is your idea of love I can do without it.

If your problem with the Catholic Church is the fact that She will not conform to your views/ideas on sexual preferences, I suggest you begin a new Thread.
That Subject is inappropriate on this one, as it is completely off Topic.

Jullien

Intolerance is another issue that can cause people to leave or to stay away.
I’m sure it is!

There are actually is an Apostolate of the Roman Catholic Church, that ministers to those with same-sex attractions and their loved ones. It’s called: Courage web-page: couragerc.net/

You can’t tell me that that’s not love! 😛

Love?

Advising people to abstain from a sexual identity, and choose chastity as a lifestyle to defeat the inner sexuality…

Sounds more like a political agenda, not love.

Live and let live…your sexual preference is not a rational criteria for believing in God or for wanting to practice your religion.

IMHO…

If you want to discuss/debate/whatever this please start another thread.

The issue, here, is not about tolerance. It’s about leaving the Church and blaming Her members as an excuse to do so. Let’s face it; our Church is not one of those “Feel Good” Churches.
The Church does not condone certain behavior or activities; however, it does not condemn the person.

Besides, we’re getting off topic here. If TotalTop wants to debate the Church’s position on sexual preferences, he/she needs to start a new thread.

Truthfully WE ALL ARE CALLED to live a life of chastity!
CCC 2348:
All the baptized are called to chastity. The Christian has “put on Christ,” the model for all chastity. All Christ’s faithful are called to lead a chaste life in keeping with their particular states of life. At the moment of his Baptism, the Christian is pledged to lead his affective life in chastity.
However all of this is for ANOTHER THREAD!..If another thread was started I would be happy to say more. 🙂

Anytime that someone blames another person(s) as the reason for quitting, the reason needs to be examined closely…my wife is a very devoted Catholic, and she stays away from any parishioner who annoys her, or who she might not personally like, because as she has told me…NO ONE is going to stop her from practicing her faith!!!

Perhaps, people who leave by blaming other Catholics are just not ready to admit the REAL reason(s) that they want to leave…and find blaming other people easier than facing thier own feelings or decisions.

I do agree with your comment that the Catholic church is not a feel good religion…one has to work at it constantly.

Elg…

I agree. elg26’s argument needs to be on a new thread.

God Bless!
No new thread needed… was just replying to Mr. Jullien and Estesbob, about the comments they made to Totaltop…wasn’t trying to rob the topic!!!

🙂

Hi,

I wasn’t implying anyone was trying to “rob the topic”, honestly.
It’s just that the Forum Admins. reserve the right to delete posts that they believe are off-topic.
That’s the only reason I suggested it. Personally, it doesn’t matter one way or the other to me if the thread strays. I don’t mind the diversion. 😃

God Bless!

I, who attended a church in the hayloft of a barn in Kentucky and was raised by a protestant preacher, am now Catholic, for one simple reason. It is the church that God founded.

No matter what church I’ve attended, there have been people and things that weren’t right. The key for me has been to keep my eyes on God and not on the people around me. Read the Catechism and if you find fault in that, then leave - and I will keep you in my prayers.

Hello again. Just a quick report on my meeting with Father. He was very encouraging and listened to all my complaints, and I told him that I hadn’t been to Mass for over a month. He said that under the circumstances that it really was understandable due to the emotional stress I’ve been under. We talked for over an hour about many things. He said that let’s talk again, that we should meet regularly. He said not to worry about any doubts that I’ve been having, that everyone has doubts at times. I also talked about the pros and cons of my moving from the house where I’ve lived for 13 years.

Thanks to the many supportive posts and prayers here.
