Hello again. Just a quick report on my meeting with Father. He was very encouraging and listened to all my complaints, and I told him that I hadn’t been to Mass for over a month. He said that under the circumstances that it really was understandable due to the emotional stress I’ve been under. We talked for over an hour about many things. He said that let’s talk again, that we should meet regularly. He said not to worry about any doubts that I’ve been having, that everyone has doubts at times. I also talked about the pros and cons of my moving from the house where I’ve lived for 13 years.
Thanks to the many supportive posts and prayers here.
Praise be to God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the Holy Spirit. I wonder if you’ve made your next appointment?
It sounds like what others have said, that you should look to the Catholic Church for faith, not necessarily to it’s members…
A short story-I’m a new Catholic, having been married, baptized, confirmed and received Holy Eucharist this past Easter Vigil. One of the things that drew me to the church-first, of cours, desiring a relationship with our Father in heaven, but secondly, the open arms with which I was accepted into Christ’s family. First, by my priest, even though my first attempt to connect was because of a sin against my family, I told him I wanted to straighten out and connect with God. He gave me a Catechism, requested me to read the first couple of chapters, then schedule another meeting with him. He’s been working with my wife and I through our issues for over a year-always there for us, even though he’s the lone priest in the parish. Secondly, we started attending daily mass, meeting the parishoners, most of whom have at least 10 years on us., but also meeting some contemporaries. We’ve developed friendships, and really close relationships-we’ve adopted a child (not really, but his mom is going through a divorce, and considers me grandpa) who comes to daily mass semi-regularly, and a couple of “daughters”. Also, we went on vacation, and being strangers in the Bahamas, found a church close to the resort, went to Sunday Mass, and at fellowship, met some people who showed us where to buy groceries, and made friends. You’re never really alone anywhere there’s a Catholic Church. Anyway, I’ve always felt so welcomed by the people! Oh, yeah, the first part of that catechism was on the Beatitudes, and they just hit me in the stomach, made me fall to my knees and beg forgiveness, and I’ve been a changed man ever since.
Sure, the RCC is not the only church that preaches the Gospel and the Beatitudes, but it was the first one to make me realize what they really mean.
May I suggest that, even though you’re already Catholic, you might try attending RCIA, maybe become a sponsor? Or also, try to find something in the parish that needs attention, and then volunteer! In our parish, no one seems interested in the general outward appearance of the property, so we spend a weekend every month (probably 4 hours) weeding, removing brush, etc. My wife, right now, is cleaning the new residence for our only priest with a gang of her friends-he’s been living in the parish office for 7 or 8 years. Find something you can do to belong! And pray, pray, pray for guidance. Did you make the appointment yet?
Peace,
