Hello again. Just a quick report on my meeting with Father. He was very encouraging and listened to all my complaints, and I told him that I hadn’t been to Mass for over a month. He said that under the circumstances that it really was understandable due to the emotional stress I’ve been under. We talked for over an hour about many things. He said that let’s talk again, that we should meet regularly. He said not to worry about any doubts that I’ve been having, that everyone has doubts at times. I also talked about the pros and cons of my moving from the house where I’ve lived for 13 years.

Thanks to the many supportive posts and prayers here.
That’s Good to here!!!👍 Hopefully you went ahead and set up a time to meet with Father again!!!

I’m still saying prayers for you.

Thanks Pete for the positive response. Yes I’ve been hurt by Catholics and that’s affected my view. Probably I shouldn’t have come to this site to air my grievance since obviously I’ve left myself open to attack here. People trying to promote their faith should not jump all over someone just because they disagree with them. It only serves to confirm my point of view.

This site probably doesn’t do much to promote the faith, from what I’ve read here. There are alot of critical people who post here and rip other people to shreds over what seem to me to be minor matters.
brother, i’m 16 and a recent convert to the Catholic Faith…and alot of things that have happened in the past, wicked things, at the hands of people who have claimed the Catholic Faith, have disturbed me and continue to disturb me. i see kids around school who act rotten and have the worst attitudes, and yet when i see them at Mass on Sunday, they are little angels. Even though there are fallible men and women in the Church, the Truth remains that Christ’s Bride (the Church) is spotless and pure, despite the actions of her wayward sons and daughters.
please, for the sake of our Lord, our Gentle Lord, Jesus, remain true to our Mother, the Church, and pray for our brothers and sisters who have neglected the graces provided in the Church.
and pray for me, because some girl in school asked me to let her copy my english homework…and unfortunately, i let her. the truth is, i gave in to the temptation of wanting to be accepted and like, and i went against my consience. i am a sinner, and you are too, and so is everyone else on this planet, Catholic or not.
stay grounded in the faith delivered once and for all to all the saints…and pray only that God’s Will be done in your life…because His will is all that matters. and i’ve discovered that if we truly want his will, and only his will, then he will reward us with a heart open to him. sorry for the long reply, i just wanted to share with you, and if possible, build you up, because that is what us Christions got to do for one another. pray for me brother, i will pray for you…
in Love,
cody

So good to hear! I am looking forward to seeing you as a regular member here with a new screen name. “Formerly Disheartened” in your tagline.

More importantly I hope that a devout parish is in your future (especially if it’s the one in which you are already a member!) Have Faith and keep to the Sacraments. And above all pray and adore!

Disheartened - I am so “heartened” that your meeting went so well. 🙂 You’re in my prayers.

Hey, great news disheartened. Now just relax and don’t worry about anything, ok? You’ve been stressed out, okay? Go easy on yourself.

Praise Be To God! Know that you continue to be in my prayers.
I would most definitely make an appointment to speak with the good Father again.
Pax tecum,

Disheartened,
I am glad to see that you are working on your issues with the Church, when I first posted, I hadn’t realized what you had gone through, and so if my posts seemed harsh, I apologize.
For those of us that see hypocrisy in people that are very loving in Mass, and then once they leave are as mean as heck, I recommend a talk by Father Larry Richards entitled “The Truth”
It is available at his web site, and I think, that it is a free download if you register on his site, at least it was a week or so ago, if not it only costs $ 4.00.

He talks about that very issue, but his main focus is having a personal relationship with Christ.
Again I pray that you and everyone struggling in their faith will find peace and comfort in Our Lord Jesus Christ, For he is all that matters.

I have this CD, and I would send it to you, Dis, if I knew exactly where it was. However, you can get this CD and other ones about the faith at Catholicity.com. Or google St. Jude Media. They are free there. I think Fr. Larry has one about confession, too.

Praise be to God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the Holy Spirit. I wonder if you’ve made your next appointment?

It sounds like what others have said, that you should look to the Catholic Church for faith, not necessarily to it’s members…

A short story-I’m a new Catholic, having been married, baptized, confirmed and received Holy Eucharist this past Easter Vigil. One of the things that drew me to the church-first, of cours, desiring a relationship with our Father in heaven, but secondly, the open arms with which I was accepted into Christ’s family. First, by my priest, even though my first attempt to connect was because of a sin against my family, I told him I wanted to straighten out and connect with God. He gave me a Catechism, requested me to read the first couple of chapters, then schedule another meeting with him. He’s been working with my wife and I through our issues for over a year-always there for us, even though he’s the lone priest in the parish. Secondly, we started attending daily mass, meeting the parishoners, most of whom have at least 10 years on us., but also meeting some contemporaries. We’ve developed friendships, and really close relationships-we’ve adopted a child (not really, but his mom is going through a divorce, and considers me grandpa) who comes to daily mass semi-regularly, and a couple of “daughters”. Also, we went on vacation, and being strangers in the Bahamas, found a church close to the resort, went to Sunday Mass, and at fellowship, met some people who showed us where to buy groceries, and made friends. You’re never really alone anywhere there’s a Catholic Church. Anyway, I’ve always felt so welcomed by the people! Oh, yeah, the first part of that catechism was on the Beatitudes, and they just hit me in the stomach, made me fall to my knees and beg forgiveness, and I’ve been a changed man ever since.

Sure, the RCC is not the only church that preaches the Gospel and the Beatitudes, but it was the first one to make me realize what they really mean.

May I suggest that, even though you’re already Catholic, you might try attending RCIA, maybe become a sponsor? Or also, try to find something in the parish that needs attention, and then volunteer! In our parish, no one seems interested in the general outward appearance of the property, so we spend a weekend every month (probably 4 hours) weeding, removing brush, etc. My wife, right now, is cleaning the new residence for our only priest with a gang of her friends-he’s been living in the parish office for 7 or 8 years. Find something you can do to belong! And pray, pray, pray for guidance. Did you make the appointment yet?

Peace,
