Why is bad music like rap so popular instead of music like heavy metal or rock?

I just want to come back for a moment to ask whether you were being flippant (I took it that you were; hence, my reply)?

Coming back to this: being matter-of-fact does not equate to having no feelings.

Did you manage to find another video with a suitable video-capture, because whether you were able to, or not, this ought to be taken down in the meantime?

Oh no, I was being quite genuine! I admired the way you cut the Gordian Knot of my bewilderment, and couldn’t help complimenting you for that. I did, however, detect a note of dry humor in your response, which I greatly appreciated, since I tend to be rather serious and to take things at face value. Thanks for coming back for clarification! 😊

I have not found a way to get rid of that dreadful picture. I guess I can take it down, but the content of the video itself is not full of those images, and cobtains a well spoken, clean and cogent case about why new music is so dreadful.

Doesn’t matter, the image is vulgar. And the post will require flagging.

The dryness evident in my response was not a wilful act on my part. I was just not being direct, as I am now, in my response.

Trying to figure that out myself. I listen to rock, hard rock, metal, jazz, fusion, blues, soul, Christian, catholic, and county. I can’t handle rap, dance, house and pop. It is always the same recycled boats. Same musical chord progressions. Most of it is even written by only a couple different writers. To each there own though, I would never stop anyone from wanting to listen to those forms, it’s just that as a musician, for me, it needs musicians playing in it, not pre programmed on a midi controller.

Links below is from, well known and respected, Rick Beato, a writer/musician/producer.

I’m caught in the middle here. No, I do not like these dreadful “pop tarts”. They are vulgar, and offensive to be sure. and while dressed highly inappropriately there is no nudity.
I remember being unfriended on FB once by a Catholic who thought that a post I had made exposing the sham of photoshopping and airbrushing of models … It showed a young woman come in. she was brely clad, but not naked (no more than you;'d see on a typical beach or public pool) and they showed how they took this averge looking girl and used their techniques to make her something she wasn’t. When we discuss pornography we often talk about how such things are done to the porn actresses, and they become something that n wife can compete with byy tghese tricks.

I’m in my 30’s and the only ones I like are stuff like Johny Cash,Loretta Lynn,Dolly Parton,Kenny Rogers etc-that kind of sentimental or melancholy types of songs.

For me personally, that link is exactly the type of country music that I “hate”.
Maybe it’s because I’m not American lol.

I agree that many of the country singers these days are a slave to the corporate dollar/record labels and “worship” money before artistic expression.
Or maybe they actually like the sort of music the are putting out?

It might be thought of as daggy today but this is the sort of country that I like:

Wow👍.
I love the second one-very profound lyrics and music clip.
This is a father though? I’ve never heard of such a thing as a father rapping.
Is the Vatican good with this?
How come I have never heard of him/his music as he is very natural and has good commercial appeal.

I think it’s a good thing that music have it own diversification and no matter rap or metal/rock is just a path to express the contents. So the most important thing is not what you use to express, it should be what you want to express. Contents will always be the core value. I am not saying all of them, but some people liking rap sometimes is just enjoying the bad words and violent emotion instead of treating them as real music. That should be the reason.

Hope it could help you.

Fr Fortuna is well known, he is a member of the same order that brought us Fr Groeschel and Fr Apostoli.
By well known,I’m referring to known in the music scence, not meaning known to Christians.
He’s talented so you would expect he would get some commercial air play, but maybe that isn’t the case due to his subject manner.

Getting commercial air play is a very complex, expensive process today. I remember back when it simply meant you took your record to the local radio station and begged for airplay. Those days are gone.

This is why you hear basically the same things on commercial radio, it is a product like Kraft Singles pseudo-cheese. Many artists now simply release the music themselves on the internet.

There are Christians who make all sorts of commercial music, including rap. Chance the Rapper is very vocal about his faith.

Any recommendations? Most Christian metal I find hasn’t really resonated with me.
I’m glad to see @Joe_5859 already mentioned Theocracy, as they are my favorite (he and I have similar tastes). I’m surprised to hear the CCM-like complaint, as a big part of the reason they hooked me almost 15 years ago is that I felt they were lyrically not like CCM. Anyway, here’s one you probably haven’t heard with lyrics that blow my mind (once I finally cracked the code of what he’s referring to) - Wishing Well:

There’s a discussion of the song’s meaning in the first few posts of this thread: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/threads/wishing-well.1131897

I also recommend Harmony (power) and Darkwater (prog) from Scandinavia. Up until recently, the two bands were mostly the same guys exploring the two different genres. It’s hard for me to pick out representative songs for them.

One of my newer favorites is Diviner from Greece. I describe them as traditional metal in the 80s American vein with Christian lyrics. Here’s Fallen Empires:

One thing to note: every band I’ve mentioned is on Ulterium Records. They tend to have all of my favorite Christian bands (full disclosure: I used to volunteer for them; I like the bands that much!).

Edit: I have to also mention Saviour Machine (“the unofficial soundtrack to the end of the world”) and Rob Rock (power) as favorites, as well:
