Why is homosexuality wrong?

The important thing with gay youth is not to give them a tome on Catholic moral theology, but to listen with love and hold off on the preaching for another time. With so much suicide, most of which happens when they despair, I think the best thing to do with Kyle is just to show love and pray for him. The Church wants Kyle alive, happy, and hanging in there. Kyle, I am praying for you! Have a Merry Christmas, ok! I hope you were able to get to midnight Mass and that everything is ok. Blessings!!! 👍

First, those are animals. Their homosexuality is not a show of emotional love, it’s a show of lust. It’s like saying that since having sex for a couple of seconds is natural for monkeys than its natural for humans too or thatpromiscuity is natural.

Secondly, homosexuality is lust. Pure and simple. Even if a gay man were to find a friendly person in another gay man, homosexualityn is what makes them perform filthy acts and be promiscuis. And don’t tale my word for it; take the word of homosexuals who themselves admit are promiscuis and advocate free sex, the same homosexuals whoa ttend gay pride parades running around half naked and doing all sorts of indecent things in public, the same homosexuals who wear clothes and show ‘affection’ no normal woman or couple would do.

Thirdly, even as I said a man were to find a decent person to ‘date’, it’s still a person you can be clsoe friends with. Marriage is more than love or lust; if it was, we’d be able to marry our sisters or multiple wives. I know mormonism advocates polygamy but look, we’re not mormon. Men and women have a sort of chemistry with each other that two people of the same sex can’t have. They share not only their possessions and their works but also their emotions; they can chage each other or teach each other in a lot of ways. In ssence, they share a special emotional bond that is far more than friendship. Then there children whom homosexuals cannot raise because if they did, the children are going to be confused about their sexuality and whether it is right or wrong to pursue a heterosexual relationship. Don’t take my word for it; the fact that a lot of books have been written about men and women relationships and how both sexes are diffirent shows, butch feminism and portrayal of women and jerks be damned.
From this post it is clear you lack understand of both homosexual persons and Catholic theology.

I have always been amazed at the impotency of the “other animal species occasionally show examples of homosexual couplings…” argument.

…as if going down the phylogenetic scale reveals a noble path for humans, who were meant to be like gods. We should look in the other direction.

Hey Kyle,

I’m a gay Catholic living in a large city and I hope this helps you out. I respect the wide range of personal and spiritual views when it comes to the Sanctity of Marriage–and see all on these forums as a fellow Catholic.

Homosexuality’s a heated topic in our current culture. However, I think you need to talk to a professional, whether it’s clergy, some kind of counselor, or a doctor. Make sure it’s someone you can trust. Keeping your feelings swallowed up inside, with fear of rejection is unhealthy, both spiritually and mentally.

Everyone on this forum has sinned. It’s not for us to cast judgement upon one another. If you believe in the power of the Holy Spirit, and you strive to walk in the footsteps of Christ, you’ll have a place secured with the Father.

It’s not so much that we have sinned, but it’s how we make amends for our actions. The spiritual journey isn’t the easiest, and we all walk a tough road–but keep your Faith. God’s love for you is unconditional.

Just stop beating yourself up. Hang in there.

Merry Christmas,

WK

I had heard this before, its just that I don´t get it, I mean eating a child is clearly wrong, because you´re affecting someone else, adultery is the same thing, but homosexuality only affects those who willingly consent, why should this be wrong? Another thing I don´t understand is why di Jesus never talk about it. I just feel so sad that I´m going to have to be alone for the rest of my life
Kyle, first responding to your post, no God doesn’t hate you. You are a human being created by God and you are valuable and special, therefore God loves you, don’t ever forget that. Second, there is a major difference between humans and animals. Human were given by God freedom of choice, animals were not which means that humans have a choice over their thoughts and their actions; animals don’t have a choice; so it is not about “eating a child is wrong because is affecting someone else” is about the fact that you have a choice to choose your thoughts and actions, and whether those actions bring you closer to God. For example so you can understand better, as a human you have a choice to become a vegetarian if you decide that eating meat is not correct, however a lion cannot wake up one morning saying, “you know this business of killing other animals is not correct, I now decide to become a vegetaria.” This applies to everything else, that is why you can’t compare the behavior of animals to human behavior, animals are slaves to their instict, we don’t. We have been given a power of choice and the choices we make are going to bring us closer or further from God.

The other issue, why homosexuality is wrong, well basically because it is the use of your sexual functions outside the scope of marriage. Our sexual function was given to us to be used exclusively within the context of marriage, any sexual activity outside this context is a mortal sin and that is why masturbation is a sin, pre-marital sex is a sin and the list goes on.

You, also, state that Jesus never spoke about it which is TOTALLY WRONG. Jesus stated very clearly "“Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” While this statement came out when the pharisees were trying to trick him over divorce, Jesus came back giving the basic law and stating the way it should be.

He might not have said directly “homosexuality is wrong” but he stated very clearly the basic rule: God made him male and female and they shall become one flesh – one flesh being sex. Also, let me add to you that the word shall means “have a duty to” which reinforces the point that sexual activity has to happen within marriage, therefore according to what Jesus said homosexuality, pre-marital sex, masturbation and fornication in all levels is sinful.

From your post I think are pretty much in the same situation of a person who is being tempted to have pre-marital sex or someone who is struggling with masturbation; you are being tempted. My best advice to you is lots of praying. I recommend you to pray the rosary every day. The rosary is a wonderful weapon to keep the devil away and to give you strenght, I say so from personal experience. Offer what you are going through to God, tell him that you are dealing with attraction to men to please take it in his hands and to resolve it for you. We as humans can’t do anything, but God is almighty and with him you can overcome anything. Have faith in Jesus and you will see that you can do anything.

One more thing, you stated that you “will always be lonely.” That is not a good way of thinking, even if you were attracted to women, that statement reflects that you are putting the burden of making your own self happy into someone else. If you are not happy with your own self, NOBODY is going to make you happy in this life. You must start making your own self happy and learn to enjoy life without the need of having someone else. Also, no one is ever lonely because God is always with us. Make God your number one company, try to make your own self happy with your own life and try to find happiness in what God gives you and I am sure that you will never feel lonely ever again.

Just stop beating yourself up. Hang in there.
The most important message! Saints are not those who have never fallen. Saints are those who always accept God’s offer to get back up and try again. Never give up on God, because God never gives up on us!

Perhaps, too, those of us who had the most difficult part of the testing fire will also shine most brightly after doing our best to live a life of obedience. Perhaps those of us with particular difficulties also bring gifts: after all, why has so much great art come from those who struggle with depression and other difficulties?

At any rate, no struggle undertaken for love of God and neighbor will go unrewarded, not as long as love was its true origin and an open desire to know what true love is was behind it. Never forget that. Love covers a multitude of sins.

Hi kyle. I also have a same-sex attraction. I can understand the weight of the cross we bear. Sometimes, I still feel upset about it, but I also know that my love for God should prevail so that I must avoid displeasing him by committing sin. At times like these, I pray to God to give me the strength and joy to keep going in life. Our popular culture often hails sex as the greatest source of happiness, but this isn’t true. There’s more to life than sex. Those who engage in sex in sinful ways and disregarding its true meaning may experience momentary pleasure, but end up hurting themselves and others and with a huge void which no amount of pleasure could fill.

But first, it’s important to address your objections.

#1 Animals demonstrate homosexual behavior. Therefore, homosexual behavior is natural and is not wrong.

Natural can mean two things: 1) something that exists in nature and 2) somethng that works to promote the good and normal order of things; to work well according to one’s “nature”. These two meanings should not be equated. Stuff that exist in nature do not necessarily mean it’s good, normal, or according to one’s nature. Illness, for example, exists in nature. Humans and animals suffer from disease. But we know that illness is contrary to one’s normal functions and health. It is not “natural” in this sense, because something is not supposed to be. Something is wrong.

In a similar manner, homosexuality doesn’t automatically become right because it exists in nature or observed in animals. In the final analysis, its morality is judged according to the right natural order of things. First, we note the function of one’s reproductive organs. The male and female organs are meant to be complementary and to function for procreation. Second, the male and female person are also complementary in terms of other aspects (their psyche, personality etc.) as if they are designed in marriage to build up one another in his/her own respect. Homosexuality runs contrary to this natural order and complementarity.

The existence of “wrong” things in nature is explained by our doctrine of Original sin. Because of the fall of mankind, nature does not work as perfectly as it was first ordained to be. We experience death and illness. People experience tendencies and attraction that lead us to commit sin (attraction to women who is not your wife; attraction to persons of the same-sex, to name a few). This attraction, although disordered, doesn’t constitute sin by itself unless one consents to it.

This is part of the struggle that God expects all of us to bear for him. But we have with us the hope that he gives us enough help and grace to avoid sin, fight temptation, and to strive to live in holiness. Even if we fall out of weakness, God gives us a fresh chance to continue fighting by forgiving us in Confession.
👍👍 Wonderfully written and great advice too!

Plainly, it’s not an act of love.

Love is pursuing someone’s greatest good. Practicing homosexuality is an act of mutual selfishness.

A better, more revealing, question is why are there so many redundant threads on this subject? Seems a few people want a world built to their making and will complain and whine as if it will change some thing.
First of all you have some nerve to suggest that people of the same gender cannot genuinely love each other. Secondly your wrong. And third, I hope you and the church come to your senses and realize that just because we are gay does not mean we can’t have the same monogamous and SELF-GIVING relationships you enjoy. I don’t mean to bite your head off but Ive heard the label “selfish” one to many times.😡

I´m catholic, I go to church every sunday, and I pray with my family everyday. I really believe in God. But the thing is, that I feel attracted to men, and in the bible it says it´s wrong. I´ve researched and found that there are animals that have homosexual orientation, so this means it is something that hapens in nature, why then would it be wrong if I act on my feelings, will God hate me if I do? Will I go to hell? I really don´t want to go to hell, but I don´t understand why is it that wrong, if I would not be harming anyone else by being with another man 😦
There are many reasons why individuals can not have sex. It is not as if those with same sex attraction are the only people who are unable to have sexual relationships. Yet, many people who do not have the gift of sex are able to have full and rich lives and friendships.

I think the Church was wise to not divorce sex from babies.

I suppose I look at all this as a Catholic and also from a way of thinking that nature - all of nature - loves babies. All the beauty of nature hinges on procreation and propagation of the species. The sex drive in human beings is strong and constant. Unlike most other animals there is no season for reproduction. I think that the drive is strong due to the “survival of the fittest”. Those who had a strong drive were the ones whose genes survived the ability to figure out that sex and babies go together.

It is my understanding that when a population is starving the sex drive becomes even stronger. When babies are not being born it is possible the sex drive becomes even stronger and more frenzied.

Our civilization has, in many ways, decided that babies are secondary to the sexual needs and desires of adults. It is the prevailing belief that sex is the answer for all our woes.

It is a turned-up-side-down world - not only in the same-sex world but the heterosexual world as well. We have lost sight of what sex is all about.

Nature’s demands are harsh. The “survival of the fittest” is a not a complimentary term. Yet it is the nature’s answer. The genes of those who are “unfit” will not survive.

This is not the answer that the Church gives the world. The Church teaches us that, who ever you are, we can be “fit” for the Glory of God. The Church teaches us that our bodies are beautiful temples of God. That we are to use our bodies for His glory. Sex is a gift for the human being for procreation. If that gift is denied to us, for what ever reason, we can still use our bodies for His Glory.

There is so much need in this world. There is so much good we can do for others and for Christ. But instead we feel sorry for ourselves and want to engage in some sort of fantasy and illusion that we can be something that we are not, and to do what we want with the gifts that God has given us.

It is, in my experience, that many of those who champion same-sex relationships also champion abortion. These two issues are closely connected. Both are a disconnect from reality. Both are denying the nature and beauty of the human body - the human person.

I think it is safe to say that the Church teaches that same sex relationships are not more sinful than heterosexual sex with birth control.

Because God said so.

The same as no fornication and no masturbation.

We can’t always have what we want, we must choose.

Your First post is to resurrect a VERY OLD thread… (Contrary to forum rules)

Animals in the following does not include humans.

Animals do not have choice but humans do, because humans have a rational immortal soul. Animals cannot sin and will not experience resurrection.

It *would *be spiritually harmful to yourself and the other person involved. The Catechism states that it is the homosexual relations that are disordered. “They close the sexual act to the gift of life” and “homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity” (CCC 2357) so it is not a trivial matter. It is lust but also scandal (leading others into sin).

So if two people consent to something it becomes Holy or moral? Many people consent to abuse, mutilation or worse. I you consent to for another to commit sodomy on your body as an abuse how does that make it something God would think of as an expression of Holy love?
