Looks like you answered your own question.
To love anything more than Christ and His Holy Bride, that is the primary sin.

The OP, indeed any one of us, ALWAYS has a choice. If the choice is between Catholicism and Masonry, and the OP decides that being a mason is more important than being a Catholic, THAT is the choice, HIS choice. It would not be my choice. How “nice” the people are in any organization or group are is really not the issue, though I understand in this society which is largely geared toward “acceptance above all” and “I’m OK, you’re OK” that many WOULD find themselves judging a group by ‘appearances’. It’s how they judge everything else, after all, and how they’ve been conditioned, taught, shaped and encouraged practically since birth. It is very hard to ‘buck the system’ and believe me I’m not saying that I am immune to this tendency myself–I really have to fight to keep my eyes on GOD and not MAN. I’ll pray for all facing these situations.

Daniel O`Connell who gained Catholic emancipation for the Irish was a Freemason.

I liked the first link provided however there are are few minor inaccuracies.

Second link is also good but there should be a note that states that each degree from jurisdiction to jurisdiction is slightly different or even majorly different when considering the so called Red Lodges found only in Lousiana here in the US or those of the Prince Hall.

The third link is silly.

Fourth Link: John Salza and I have spoken on this forum and I would like to read his book. He seems level headed and will refrain from commenting until I have read the work.

The fifth link is prayer for conversion which is always a plus.

I only object to the third link which is absurd.

Thanks for the feedback. Could you give examples of the minor inaccuracies? I ask because I want to be informed as possible.

Interesting … maybe you could send Mr. Salza an e-mail asking him to include such a note in a future revision of those pages.

What is silly or absurd about it? It’s organized a bit haphazardly and seems a bit sensationalistic in a few places, but it didn’t strike me as silly or absurd. However, I haven’t read every page on the site, and may have missed something that stood out to you as a sign that the site’s author and contents shouldn’t be taken seriously.

The use of the term religion is inaccurate. This is not only explained by Pike but also by Macoy (who quotes Pike) stating that it is religious in the sense that it deals with ethical matters but not a religion in the proper sense of the word. It is a common error that has to do with a poor understanding of 19 century forms of English.

I may just do that.

Any site that sensationalizes any topic is immediately suspect. Further I have read most if not all of the popular conspiracy theory information on this topic which is a further sensationalizing of the topic. Absurdity is in direct relation to this.

Short sweet answer… The Church and secret societies don’t mix. Matt, you admit that you have only recently discovered the masons and that prior to this recent discovery, you didn’t know anything about them. I think it rather strange that in so short a time, you can become such a supporter of a group that you know so little about. As far as you purposefully misrepresenting yourself concerning D&D, I think that it’s rather sad that a 24 year old feels the need to lie about how he feels just to discover how others feel concerning a game. One more thing, you say that if the Catholics can’t be masons that you will choose to be a protestant. I’m sorry; I find it extremely hard to believe that you are 24. People become Catholics because they know and understand that the Catholic Church is the one true Church founded by Christ through His Apostles. What you appear to be saying is that it’s more important to be a mason than it is to be a part of God’s Church. I’ll pray for you Matt. It sounds as though you need a lot of prayer at the moment.

im just posting to this thread so I can keep up with it…

carry on.

I often wondered why I didn’t get a scholarship from the masons when I applied…though it was kinda funny to see the look of shock on the interviewer when he came to meet my family and I and saw the catholic images hanging up around our home…hahahahaha!

You being Catholic did not have anything to do with the approval or denial of the scholarship. I was on a scholarship committee in my own lodge and religion of the individual is an irrelevant issue. I would not say that masons as a whole are anti-catholic but rather that some masons are anti-catholic. The incompatibility of masonry with the Church has to do with the above cited issues centering around irrenicism and indifferentism and humanism. Frankly it is instituted modernism that requires a belief in a Supreme Being.

Scholarship issues are highly subjective and are usually based on a combined issue of need and academics. For instance I remember one woman that we gave a scholarship to because she was trying to get an education to start a mechanic shop that was focused on providing quality and honest service to women (who are often a target of dishonest practices at the mechanic’s) and so we felt it was a good idea so we gave her the scholarship.

Wow - thanks for posting this. I was told a while ago that the Church lifted the ban on joining the Freemasons. I now see that I was misinformed.
This was also my problem. I joined at 18 after doing some research and finding a particular document that stated that the English forms of freemasonry should be fine under the broad wording of the 1983 Code of Canon Law. However, it was latter when I was in the seminary that I came across the proper understanding and then allowed my dues to laps. Even though at that time I did not fully understand why such a restriction existed I choose obedience over full understanding trusting in the wisdom of Holy Mother Church. From that point on I spent time reflecting on the issues and came to peace with the ruling as it is based in solid doctrine.
