Why is it that Protestants question everything?

Ive just started wondering stuff about catholicism. Ive been raised protestant and just recently started dating a Catholic girl.

I am guilty of asking lots of question. I want to understand Catholic beliefs. I however believe it is important to carefully decide what to belive, which is why I ask questions. If i just believed everybody that told me stuff, then I could believe mormons and muslims and any other religious group that had a convicing argument and showed up at my door telling me about it.

I guess my question is, Is it really that offensive if I ask why Catholics do certain things? The truth is, I do not understand some of it and am interested in understanding it. However, this thread appear to be saying that Protestants are idiots becaues they have not been raised as Catholics and have the Catholic beliefs ingrained in them. Is that a popular view of protestants from Catholics or just the view of this message board?

There was no Catholic Church in many of the areas we have lived. My wife has been United Methodist now for three years. Before that, we would attend mass when we had the opportunity to visit her parents.

People who don’t live in the South don’t understand that Catholic Churches are outnumbered 100 to 1. There was only 1 Catholic church in the town I grew up in. There are about 100 Baptist churches. It’s very difficult to even find a Catholic where I grew up. Now that I live in Iowa they are all over

These are the good kind of questions to ask - asking for the sake of actually knowing the answer, instead of presuming that you know everything there is to know.

What the OP gets frustrated with is the “Have you quit kicking your dog” style of questions that we are continually bombarded with, where the person asking the question is perfectly sure that Catholics do nothing all day except kick dogs, and is only asking the question in order to make that information public.
