Why not question what you don’t know for sure?
Well, our Protestant friends do this an awful lot - ‘define this’, ‘explain that’, ‘what do you mean by that?’, as Benedict said.
They are hoping that one Catholic they ask doesn’t have the whole answer, or makes some sort of mistake, and they jump all over him.
Look what happened when someone said, in a particular context, scripture has dead words. Maybe he was trying to say that Scripture comes more alive with the Living Magisterium, or some such. I dont know what he was trying to say, but our Bible Protestants tried to make him look foolish, and kept it up, e3ven though the rest of us had moved on. We then have Protestants saying, ‘See, Catholics are down-playing the Word of God", "Tradition is more important to them’, "Catholics don’t understand Scripture, and all the old bugaboos.
We have a thread going on about Protestant Justification, and it is the Catholics who are explaining it, and explaining Catholic Justification. All these non-Catholics think is that Catholics say they are saved by good - works. Too bad these same don’t read the Canons of the Council of Trent or the CCC to find out what we believe.
Many of the Protestants on site generally are here to attack, not to learn, and I can a number of people who do this. Valid discussion is not possible, when there is this ‘gotcha’ mentality. But, many Protestants on site are here to learn, and are really searching for the truth.
Of course, God works in mysterious ways, and many people’s faith is strenghtened through it all.
We move on, generally with a proper understanding of the Catholic faith, and this is from a bunch of ‘amateurs’ like me. I don’t make a living ‘doing theology’. I am not a History Professor, or a Moral Theology expert, but under the circumstances I do the best I can. I think we all do quite well.
The childishness we see from our non-Catholic members is really sad. It may be uinderstandable, coming from the weak position in which they find themselves. Lack of charity and an un-christian like approach is unexpected.
Hopefully, that will change.
