It is not wrong to love Mary.
When one gives Mary the honor and glory that can only be given to God then that person has overstepped the line of seperation between Creator and created.

Catholics don’t “give Mary the honor and glory that can only be given to God” although there is a lot of misinformation spread about Her to that effect.

Maybe those persons who tell such stories should stop doing that? I doubt that Jesus would appreciate people telling falsehoods about His Mother but that’s just my opinion.

Hello Hisalone,

*I agree, It is wrong to worship Mary. Catholics do not worship Mary, they love, honor and respect her for who she is, the Mother of God. *

Mary is the Mother of God and my mother too. Those who keep God’s Commandments and bare witness to Christ are her “offspring”.

*She was the perfect Mother and the perfect disciple. Mary was the one chosen (handpicked) by God from all time and all women to be the Mother of God. She was the precious vessel and the way our Lord, Jesus Christ entered this world. *

*She has always done the “will of our heavenly Father” and is by Jesus’ definition, His “brother, and sister, and mother” (His loyal servant, follower and disciple). She showed us how to love her Son. She was the Mother of God and one of Jesus’ greatest disciples. *

*Mary, was the only person who ever lived that was with Jesus Christ from the beginning, until the end, at the foot of His cross. *

*She held the baby Jesus in her arms, loving Him and protecting Him, never letting Him go, until he was taken from her, at the Cross. *

*Mary never denied or left Him. *

*Mary was present in the upper room, during Pentecost! *

As for the blessed Mary in scripture, there exists not a single word against her.

*There is no finer example of a person who has completely surrendered himself or herself to the will of God, as Mary. She was madly in love with her Son, Jesus and who from the beginning, knew He was “God with us”. *

*Her perfect expression of surrender, “May it be done to me according to your word” sould be a source of strength for all Christians. *

Mary, kept many things in her heart and reflected on them, she truly knew the Lord before any of the Apostles and He knew her and Jesus loved his mother.

*When Mary brought the baby Jesus to Simeon, His destiny was revealed to her; before any other disciples knew, she knew! *

*“A sword pierced your her heart, so that the thoughts of many hearts would be known”. *

*I can only imagine how she must have suffered and the strength that she must have needed to continue on to the very end, to the foot of His cross. *

I love Mary… worship NO…Love, honor and respect, YES!

*Mary encouraged Jesus at the wedding at *Cana, the point in which He began His ministry, when she said, “Do as He says”. These words should be a reminder to all of us to "do as He says”

*Blessed Mary, the Lord is with you. You are blessed among all women and all generations shall consider you blessed. *

*Thank you Mary and pray for us that we may always think of your great example of love, sacrifice and surrender. One cannot think about you, Mary, without thinking about your son Jesus. *

May my focus allows be on Christ, as you were always focused on Him.

*Peace 🙂 *

Genesis 3:15 is talking about Eve! She was referred to as “the woman” a lot in Genesis; Mary never was.
Is that so? :coffeeread:

When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”
John 2, 3-5

This is how Mary’s concern affected Jesus:

Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which shall be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Matthew 26, 27

“For as Eve was seduced by the word of an angel to flee from God, having rebelled against His Word, so Mary by the word of an angel received the glad tidings that she would bear God [Theotokos] by obeying His Word. The former was seduced to disobey God, but the latter was persuaded to obey God, so that the Virgin Mary might become the advocate of the virgin Eve . As the human race was subjected to death through the act of a virgin, so it was saved by a virgin.”
Irenaeus, ‘Against Heresies, V:19, 1’ (A.D. 180)

Genesis 3, 15 refers to a future woman who will be at enmity with the serpent and its offspring together with her Divine Son. Eve incurred mankind’s disaster. Mary, the New Eve, diverted it because of her faith in God and obedience to His will. The salvific participation of Judith in God’s plan for the deliverance of his chosen people prefigures Mary’s role in the spiritual salvation of mankind. The woman referred to in the Protoevangelium is the advocate of Eve. She helps to restore by her obedience and faith what was lost by Eve in her disobedience and lack of faith: man’s friendship with God. Mary served God as our advocate when she interceded on our behalf and encouraged Jesus to perform his first miracle and begin his ministry under the shadow of the Cross.

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!”
John 19, 26-27

“The universal motherhood of Mary, the ‘Woman’ of the wedding at Cana and of Calvary, recalls Eve, ‘mother of all the living’ (Genesis 3:20). However, while the latter helped bring sin into the world, the New Eve, Mary, co-operates in the saving event of redemption. Thus in the Blessed Virgin the figure of ‘woman’ is rehabilitated and her motherhood takes up the task of spreading the new life in Christ among men.”
Pope John Paul ll: General Audience, 23 April 1997

Mary has become the mother of all Christ’s disciples, who are not the offspring of the serpent, the devil. Cain is the offspring of Eve, Jesus is the offspring of the New Eve. The New Eve, Mary, is our spiritual mother, since all true disciples are brethren of the Lord.

For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Romans 8, 29

“There is one Physician who is possessed both of flesh and spirit; both made and not made; God existing in flesh; true life in death; both of Mary and of God; first possible and then impossible, even Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Ignatius, ‘To the Ephesians, 7’ (A.D. 110)

The woman referred to in Genesis 3, 15 is Mary, the New Eve, who will give birth to the New Adam.

Well put… we are talking about the Mother of God here, afterall.

Have you ever read Luke 11:27-28?
I can’t speak for Jimmy B, but yes, I have read it and my interpretation of this scripture is NOT that Jesus was discounting His mother, but rather he was praising her for saying “yes” to God. We Catholics view Mary as Jesus’ first disciple. She said “yes” to God when the angel Gabrielle approached her, she was there throughout his ministry and a part of his first miracle, she was there at the foot of the cross and she is with Him now. She IS one who is “blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it”!

I have never heard of why, even though she is Jesus’s Mother.

Is it not ok that I just pray to Jesus, and that be it?
“Is it not ok that I just pray to Jesus…”

Sounds ok to me…except…

“and that be it”

What does this mean, “and that be it”?

It’s great to pray to Jesus but its even greater to have Mary, the Saints, etc. pray to Jesus for you as well. The prayers of a righteous person availeth much. 👍

that be it, as in, that be who I pray for, not to pray for mary/saints to pray for me or with me, whichever you guys actually believe, I have been told both.

**Loving Mother of the Redeemer,
gate of heaven, star of the sea,
assist your people who have fallen
yet strive to rise again.
Code:
To the wonderment of nature
you bore your Creator,
yet remained a virgin after
as before.

You who received Gabriel's joyful greeting,
have pity on us poor sinners.**

   Amen.

We do not pray to Mary in the sense that we pray to God. Anyone who tells you that we worship Mary and pray to her as we would to God is misinformed.

We pray that Mary will pray for us. It is just as if you asked a friend to pray for you, or if a friend offered to pray for you and you thanked your friend for their prayers. Or if you offered to pray for a friend. Perhaps you have never done so, but most Christians have. Asking for Mary’s prayers is no different.

Although learning and functioning in a second language can be the source of particular hardships, I have discovered a few “jewels” so to speak in the way certain types of prayer are expressed in the french language.

I discovered one particular jewel after making a linguistic mistake (see my user name) quoting Blessed Brother André - founder of St. Joseph’s Oratory here in Montreal, from his biography in french. I’ll give you the exact translation in english which I’ve verified with various souces:

I quoted it this way (in french): " Brother André said, ‘After the death of my mother, I didn’t pray very long for her, but I prayed often to her’ ". One of the people I was speaking to corrected me immediately: “You mean he prayed with her - not to her”. Over several weeks I proceeded to verify this “correction”, mainly among the french ordained and was told, “Yes, we pray to God alone, and we pray** with the saints.”**

I believe this better expresses our relationship with the Blessed Mother - Mary the mother of Jesus. We pray with her, not to her. … It even makes her seem a little closer in a way - doesn’t it ?

Hello again ChristianKnight,

The Christian belief / truth – Communion of the Saints; that’s what we are talking about here, is in the Creed, which predates the completed, authorized Bible. The “Communion of the Saints” is biblically based. The “Communion of the Saints” is a (biblically based) Christian belief / truth, and rejection of this belief or Christian truth, is a rejection of an aspect of Christianity.

Bible verses, and some early Christian history to follow… when I have more time….

Thank you for your post.

Peace

What do you think of this prayer to Mary?

**Daily, Daily, Sing to Mary **

Verse 1
Daily, daily sing to Mary,
Sing, my soul, her praises due.
All her feasts, her actions worship
With the heart’s devotion true.
Lost in wond’ring contemplation,
Be her Majesty confess’d.
Call her Mother, call her Virgin,
Happy Mother, Virgin blest.

Verse 2
She is mighty to deliver.
Call her, trust her lovingly.
When the tempest rages round thee,
She will calm the troubled sea.
Gifts of heaven she has given,
Noble Lady, to our race.
She, the Queen, who decks her subjects
With the light of God’s own grace.

Verse 3
Sing, my tongue, the Virgin’s trophies
Who for us her Maker bore.
For the curse of old inflicted,
Peace and blessing to restore.
Sing in songs of peace unending,
Sing the world’s majestic Queen.
Weary not nor faint in telling.
All the gifts she gives to men.

Is this an appropiate prayer for a Christian to pray?

We do admire Mary, she is, after all, the Mother of God, she was the first Christian and a model of human behavior. We do not worship her. If someone cannot distinguish between admiration and worship, that is unfortunate.

We do ask Mary to pray for us, just as we might ask for the prayers of a friend. If you have ever asked for someone’s prayers, or prayed at the request of another, then you have done the same thing. If you believe that is inappropriate, then don’t do it, but to confuse such a request with worship is inaccurate. To make judgments about others, confusing the two, is wrong.

As I have said before, I doubt that Jesus would appreciate people going around and saying false things about His Mother.
