No text brother Jimmy!
Re-post please!
Hello HannahLisa, I always enjoy reading your posts, you seem to be very kind, polite and patient, I wish I could be more like you. Posters like you bring out the best in me. Please pray for me.Does it say in the Bible that Mary was in the upper room at Pentecost?
The only thing in JimmyB’s prayer that I wasn’t so sure about was the idea that he got his strength from her. Unless what he meant was that, through her saying yes to God, Jesus came to earth and Jesus is his strength. I do not believe that Mary on her own can give anyone strength.
Also, the idea of being “madly in love” with Mary seems weird to me. But that’s just me.
Anglicans acknowledge the saints and I have met Anglicans who pray to them.
I am a Protestant who does not see anything wrong in asking the saints to pray for me. I just don’t do it very much.
I receive “strength” by her example and by her reminding us to “do as He (Jesus) says”The only thing in JimmyB’s prayer that I wasn’t so sure about was the idea that he got his strength from her.
I would have to agree that I felt the same way when I first saw this term,“madley in love” as used by early Saints. However I now know the meaning for me, personally, and its a good thing. Also, the idea of being “madly in love” with Mary seems weird to me. But that’s just me.![]()
Thanks! How great is my God that He would not only take over those who crucified His Son and persecuted His followers, but He made His headquarters smack in the middle of their capitol and then used them not only to “protect” His followers, but to bring The Gospel to the entire civilized world!
Ahhh the Dark Ages. Thanks!Even “IF” Catholicism were proven to have gone astray somewhere between the 10th and 16th centuries (it hasn’t and won’t, but bear with the hypothetical), all Christians owe their existence to this simple fact (Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and Protestant).
That right there says so much more than almost anything else on this thread.I received a package of religious items shortly after reading this thread yesterday. There was a Holy Card with this picture of Our Lady of Sorrows.
wow, pretty powerful!Just wanted to share this picture. I received a package of religious items shortly after reading this thread yesterday. There was a Holy Card with this picture of Our Lady of Sorrows. There is no other reference so I don’t know who the artist is. It was so poignant, first seeing her holding the Christ Child, then holding our Crucified Lord.

That pretty much sums up God’s own attitude. He loves us, and wants us to love each other. Well done!I am happy when someone loves the ones I love.
2ndGen truely loves our mother. He/she cannot help but defend her against the likes of you. Futhermore she/he is just doing as our Lady requested “You love me and teach others to love me” and as our Lord commanded “Teach others to love the heart of my mother, pierced with the same sorrows which pierced mine.”jerusalem was good enough for jesus.
Define “good enough” Jesus taught in many places other then Jerusalem. He commanded his followers to go out and preach to the world.
but its not good enough for catholics. they had to go to rome instead.
St. Peter set up the church of Rome
the point is, there are many things that are good enough for jesus but wasnt meant for everybody else. She didnt even call Mary “Mother”. For Jesus “Woman” is a good enough reference for Mary. So is that good enough for you as well? “Holy Woman, pray for us sinners”.
Jesus used “woman” because at that time it was a term of endearment. Also, it is in John’s gospel where Jesus calls her woman. John also wrote revelation, where 12:1 reveals “a woman clothed in sun with the moon at her feet and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.”
Well not theologically. But in practice it does happen a lot. It happened for me when I was a Catholic. And its happening for 2ndGen right here. Look what he/she’s been posting man!
That’s a pure common sense answer right there! Some just don’t get it. Some might ask a stranger they just met on a bus to “pray for them” about some problem but asking Mary, the Mother of us all to pray for them doesn’t make sense to some.
It is, IMO, a cultural thing brought on by an aversion to all things Catholic (Christian). It’s seems to be knee jerk as it sure isn’t scriptural and it darn sure isn’t Tradition.
Thank you for your coming to my defense.2ndGen truely loves our mother. He/she cannot help but defend her against the likes of you. As I see that the subject matter of the christians is Love and only Love. Then Mary the mother comes on top of all, first and foremost for that love. What use is love for any one if it is not for the mother. If there is no love for Mary then love will only be a showcase.Thank you for your coming to my defense.

We can even just go by scripture:
John 13:34-35
34
“A new command I give you: Love one another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
35
By this all men will know that you are my disciples,
if you love one another.”
Now I ask every Protestant here…how did Jesus love His mother? Then if you are His disciple, you’d love her the same.

Or how about the old testament? Do the 10 Commandments not say, “Honor thy Mother and Father”? Christ obeyed the commandments and honored his mother and father; if we are called to be like Him we will also honor His mother and father.Thank you for your coming to my defense.

What about the Orthodox Christians? How could one “not” venerate and revere The Mother of God on earth?
Well, at least 2 Billion + of the world does (Catholics, Muslims and some Protestants).
