Why is it wrong to love Mary?

FYI, in Christianity Jesus is God. You see? Youve been too devoted to Mary that you have forgotten that basic & essential christian fact. 😛
FYI, Jesus is one person in the Trinity of God.

See, when Mary calls her Saviour “Lord”, then Protestants want to break up The Trinity up and pick and choose “Whom” Mary was referring to (even though Jesus Christ the Man didn’t exist when she said that).

But when they want to justify their overemphasis on God The Son, then they say He is an undividable deity.

Pick and choose,
choose and pick,
cafetiria Christianity,
doesn’t stick.

The fact is, when they are talking about Jesus, they are talking about The Trinity’s “Son” person.

If they believe that they are talking about God when they are talking about Jesus undivisably, then guess what, they have to acknowledge that Mary is The Mother of God, The Trinity entirely too (something that not even Catholics or Muslims would dare do).

good point

Why is it wrong to love Mary?

I think you have asked the wrong question, Jimmy B. Protestants just don’t perceive Mary as you do. The overwhelming majority of protestants believe Mary is dead. They don’t believe she lived a sinless life, they don’t believe in the assumption and they don’t believe Mary is queen of saints and angels. They do believe she is in Heaven, just like Lydia, Mary Magdalene, Peter, John and all the other N.T. saints. But they don’t believe Mary or any of the other saints have the ability to perceive events that are happening on earth. So how do you love (or hate) someone with whom you have no contact, but only a hope of getting to know someday in Heaven? It’s like my grandmother who I never met. I am told she was a Godly woman but I have no feelings for her because I never knew her. So it is not wrong to love Mary, it’s just not possible.

I’m not endorsing this theology but I know it correctly portrays the overwhelming sentiment among protestants.
What if we “know” Mary?

I mean we know her like we know our own living mothers?

I “know” Mary like I know Jesus.

I’ve felt her in my times of distress over my own children.

If she isn’t alive, then she’s dead. She wouldn’t be in heaven for God is not the God of the dead, but the God of The Living.

And besides, what are all the angels and The Saints in Heaven praying for in Revelations if not for us?

They’ve never been able to answer my question.

Rev 8:3/5:8

By the way, there are some Protestants who “know” Mary as she’s revealed herself to us and they love her (although their not considered Protestants by their peers).

Know which other Protestants “knew” Mary?

Martin Luther.
John Calvin.
Zwigli.

The Protestant church fathers.

🙂

God bless you on your journey.

Oh my goodness, I though you were joking. You are serious about what you said in the other post. :o

Yes Jesus is one person in the Trinity. But he is still fully God. He is still God himself. Thats the MYSTERY of the Trintiy, remember?

When I was a little Catholic I was quite Marian too. Most of my prayers went to mary. Afterall we had that big picture of momma Mary, and Jesus was but a little babe in her arms. So just like the picture, I got to maximize mary and belittle jesus. I rarely took Jesus seriously as God himself. Rather I often behaved as if God was a different person from Jesus, like like what you are doing now.

Gosh, Agnos - I thought you said that God gave you reason.
If so, then you would know that it is the Christian belief (Catholic AND Protestant) that there is no time in heaven. Those in heaven are the “cloud of witnesses” spoken of in Hebrews 12:1.
If those in heaven are not limited by the constraints of time, what would make you think that they couldn’t hear millions of petitions? That wouldn’t require omniscience.
Hit and run, antagonistic “apologetics”, AGNOS? Can’t answer the TOUGH questions? Hmmmm . . .
STILL waiting for your reply . . .

Honestly I was about to answer you next. But it appears that Zenas had pretty much answer it. Read his great post.

So basically, you are projecting your own experiences upon what you beleive everybody else practices according to what you did.

Well, when I was an agnostic, I was anti-Marion.

However, I always placed God above all. Even above Jesus. How is that possible? I follow Jesus’ example. Jesus was subordinate to God The Father. Jesus was begotten “from” God, not God “from” Jesus. I love Jesus because I loved God first.

Ay caramba! Are you a catholic???

Or of all this time was I talking to a Jehovah’s Witness???

Why is it wrong to love Mary?

Below (post# 2) is a letter (prayer) I wrote for Mary. All of my comments in this letter are Biblical, if you are not a Catholic and you do not love Mary, please explain why you don’t (love Mary)? Where is it written, in the Bible that you cannot love Mary?
Who said it is wrong to love Mary?

This is another baiting thread, in my opinion.

Of course it is.

Most of them are.

I’d say about 90% of my threads are baited to draw out anti-Catholics into the open so I can deconstruct their anti-Christian views in front of the board openly.

👍

Ahhh - okay.
BUT Zenas response is UNBIBLICAL.
Not only are those in heaven alive - they are MORE ALIVE than WE are. We on earth are flawed, whereas the saints in heaven have been glorified.

**Remember in the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-9, Mark 9:1-8), Moses and Elijah appear and speak with Jesus. **
Gee - if they were “dead”, as Protestants believe, they couldn’t do that, now COULD they. To say that those in heaven are “dead” is to say that GOD HIMSELF is dead.
He is NOT. Remember what Jesus emphatically stated in Matt. 22:31-32:

***"And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, ***‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."

i said ‘some kind’ of ominiscience. catholics dont say it outright, but thats what it logically amounts to: millions of catholics praying to her all at the same time…you’ll need some kind of ‘all knowing’ powers in order to recieve and understand all those simultaneous messages coming long distance from earth. 😃
The term “kinda” may mislead people here who are hidding or lurking. The truth of the matter is this, Catholics love Mary because Jesus loved his mother. Fr. Corapi said it best, “If Mary was good enough for Jesus, she is good enough for me and you.”

The Catholic Church has never put Mary above God, as you often assumed. The claim Catholics put Mary above God is misleading and false.

The Catholic Church teaches Mary as a created being by God and perfected by Him so that she can conceived the Word of God made flesh so all of us will be saved.

Oh sorry, by the way, some Protestants say that it is wrong to love Mary.
ahh, i see. you are starting from a false premise. well, i hope that helps us all to see why this thread is pointless.

I do disagree with my fellow Catholic who presumed to think Protestants don’t love Mary.

If we’re supposed to love our enemies, then how much more are we to love Jesus’ mother through whom’s womb came our salvation (Jesus)?

I know that their out there, but just not in numbers strong enough to actually be acknowledged. I believe that by a Christian’s nature, they grow close to Mary in appreciation and do love her, but because they put their religion affiliation before their love for her, they won’t share this with their fellow members out of fear.

I put up a thread “who loves Mary.”

All I got was crickets chirping

Fr. Corapi said it best, “If Mary was good enough for Jesus, she is good enough for me and you.”
jerusalem was good enough for jesus. but its not good enough for catholics. they had to go to rome instead. the point is, there are many things that are good enough for jesus but wasnt meant for everybody else. She didnt even call Mary “Mother”. For Jesus “Woman” is a good enough reference for Mary. So is that good enough for you as well? “Holy Woman, pray for us sinners”.

Well not theologically. But in practice it does happen a lot. It happened for me when I was a Catholic. And its happening for 2ndGen right here. Look what he/she’s been posting man!
