Why is it wrong to love Mary?

Well, I believe that some get carried away with their worship and may honestly believe that they are pleasing God.

I can’t judge them. But I love their fervor.

I’ve seen other examples that I have no doubt are works of evil (Have you seen “jesus Camp”?).

However, the video was to take the edge off of the conversation.

Some were going off topic, so I submitted a funny video to take everyone who was off -opic off of their off-topic!



But we can get “back” on-topic now!

Obviously, you don’t think it’s wrong to love Mary, right?

I love her!

And Jesus loves that about me that I love her so greatly despite all my faults.

Of course I love Mary, deeply devouted to her, having wonderful experiences meditating and praying rosary, know Mary and you know Jesus, she leads us to him

The only thing i’m aware of in Scripture along these lines is to acknowledge that Mary was blessed because she was the mother of Christ. I’m not aware of any command to love her.

You trot out opinions that say she is not the Woman of Revelations - how does this apply to not loving Mary? Even if you think she is not the Queen of Heaven, how does it change that fact that Mary is the mother of Jesus?

When discussing Mary and the marian dogmas its quite easy to get into other discussions about these things. Mary is not the queen of heaven but was the mother of Jesus.

The commandments which Jesus left us with say:

1. Love God with all your heart, all your mind and all your strength
2. Love your neighbour as yourself.

Since it is generally interpreted throughout Christendom that neighbour means everyone, how does Mary not belong to the set of people to be loved?

If you look at the context of these commands it is in the context for those who are alive in this world. There is no teaching in Scripture that i’m aware of that we are to love those who have died and no longer have a part in this world.

If you are expected to love the deadbeat wino living in a cardboard box behind a dumpster, how is it that you think you are not to love Mary?

See my previous responses. In regards to loving Mary that would involve some kind of relationship. There is no such relationship that Scripture exhorts us to have with her.

If you have family members who have died, have you ceased to love them?

I may have feelings for them but that does not mean i still have a relationship with them. The only spiritual relationship i have now is with Christ.

Do you consider Jesus to be your brother?

In a sense yes. Those who do the will of God are His brothers etc.

Even if you consider Mary to be dead and awaiting Resurrection, how does that stop you from loving the mother of your Saviour?

Again it gets back to relationship. Once a person has died they no longer have any relationship with the living here.

I didn’t notice them because I was laughing so hard.

I love that video. Like I said, my family is like that.

There is nothing wrong in loving Mary, of course. What Protestants object to is the way in which she seems to be worshiped. And certain doctrines that were proclaimed in the modern era - Immaculate Conception, 1854, Assumption, 1950. When I watch the Rosary on EWTN, for example, the “Hail Mary” dominates, far outnumbering the “Our Father” given us by Christ. That strikes me as being far out of proportion.

One other troubling doctrine - that Mary was a perpetual virgin. Scripture suggests that Jesus had siblings. Why is that such a forbidden idea in Catholicism? What is wrong about Mary and her husband living as other married couples, enjoying physical union, such a wonderful gift of God. Read Matt. 1:18. This suggests to me that later they shared in the intimacies of normal and God-ordained married life.

If one does not appreciate the Holy Rosary, either it is because they are not familiar with what it actually is (or represents), or he does not like the Gospels (not you personally). How did He love Mary?

As a mother.

Jesus exhaulted His mother by telling us to keep The Commandments (honor thy mother) and Mary is our Mother.
