I always wondered do the people in The Catholic Charismatic Renewal sound the same? They speak in tongues also right?
I went to a big charismatic conference here in Wichita where they did the blubbering stuff some. It was the same place where the speaker picked me out of the crowd and said very strange things about me right there in front of everybody and the bishop.
I’m not sure it’s all fake, but it could be that the sounds they make condition their mind to provide such prayer, which may be accompanying it either encoded into the blubbering or through another means, such as facial gestures or eye expressions maybe. That could be based on how subtle the speaker is and how aware they are of themselves.
During my recovery from mental illness, I actually incorporated what I believe to be a version of the “tongue speaking” but it was all very custom-made and on the spot, and sounded nothing like the blubbering usually associated with it. It was accompanied by extreme emotions and extreme attempts to control what I believed were evil spirits around me and family members and drive them out. It was very scary, but it was wonderful, beautiful, and worked perfectly every time.
Looked at from another angle, my kids for a while got used to a psychotic dad would be upstairs pacing, hear them fighting downstairs, and come down and do strange choreographs and odd motions, some very sudden and scary, without saying a word, then go back upstairs and suddenly they were no longer fighting.
Looking back on it, being psychotic and/or speaking in tongues in bizarre agressive dances while making very odd noises that make the “Men in Black” scene in the post office sound like nothing, seemed to do a better job at bringing the kids together than scolding them. One performance was usually all it took. :whacky:
