Over 360,000 thousand people have signed Notre Dame’s petition to stand up for the Catholic Identity of the University. This is admirable, and I myself have signed that petition.
Yet, on a poll in this very forum 17 people felt that it was morally permissible for USF to cut their MA Theology program, despite that move being contrary to Jesuit education and the schools own mission statement. Only 2 people said that this was morally unacceptable.
My question is this:
Why is Notre Dame’s Catholic Identity worth standing up for, while USF’s is not?
