I haven’t read all this thread but i still do not see the sabbath observance mentioned except in the Mosaic Law. Wasn’t it important in God’s eyes before Moses:confused:
It would appear not. And yet the SDAs have created an entire theology around it.

Ditto with the other nine.

When Moses told Pharoah that the people of Israel had to go out into the desert to celebrate a feast–which one was it? Where’s the command to do so?

InJesus: note how many of the posters here are defending the Bible on the the other thread.
Exodus 3:18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God
.

This was the command for the Israelites to go three days into the wilderness and sacrifice. It says nothing about on what day. It doesn’t say, let them leave on Wednesday so that they can sacrifice on Saturday. What is more worrisome is that it suggests that they were going to return to servitude after performing the sacrifice, which was less than honest.

And yet the SDAs have created an entire theology around it.
No more than what is in the Bible.

Isaiah 66:22-23 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

  1. I asked two simple questions, where’s the answer? Too hard?
  2. I would expect Bible critics accuse God of duplicity, not Christians.
BTW, you forgot a preious question: And where are the facts that prove I distorted the biblical texts and made them unintelligible?

Hi Marsha,

Now how come he can give you scriptures in your discussion, but I cannot get one scripture from any of them to answer even one of my 6 Questions?

It must be your charm!!👍
No. It’s her “garlic.” As I mentioned; I am finished with this thread, but for the benefit of those who are interested, I just wanted to remind that answers are being provided from the Bible here. In particular, the fifth post there has some scriptures that some will find interesting to consider.

  1. I asked two simple questions, where’s the answer? Too hard?
  2. I would expect Bible critics accuse God of duplicity, not Christians.
BTW, you forgot a preious question: And where are the facts that prove I distorted the biblical texts and made them unintelligible?
Exodus 3:18 answers both of your questions. The fact that you can’t see the answers there is the proof that you distort Biblical texts and make them unintelligible.

Exodus 3:18 answers both of your questions.
So, what you are saying is that clear out of the blue God told Moses to tell the people of Israel to pack up and go out to the wilderness for a 3 day feast. I said nothing about which day. I asked: which feast?
The fact that you can’t see the answers there is the proof that you distort Biblical texts and make them unintelligible.
You have yet to prove that claim from the previous verses I gave you.

Now was Paul correct in saying that there will come "false teachers and false teachings that pass judgement on the Apostolic church regarding the sabbath, among other things as to festivals, food and drink, as does the SDA teaches by "passing judgement on Catholic christians, and non catholics as a mark of the beast because we do not follow your founder and her new gospel teaching about the sabbath 18 hundred years later after Jesus Christ already established his revelation and teachings to his apostles.

So are you going to answer my question? Do SDA’s teach by "passing judgement upon Catholics and other chrisitans for not keeping the sabbath according to SDA’s standard of keeping the sabbath, and teach that those who dont honor the SDA’s sabbath have the mark of the beast? is this your teaching fulfilling Pauls teaching today or not?

Are SDA’s allowed to read the first 1500 years of Catholic teaching from her martyrs and saints and Popes? If you have the liberty to do so here are the pages from **St. Jerome’s commentary from the fourth century; Pages 876-881 paragraphs 8, 21 deal specifically with your conflicting new christian interpretation of Col.2:16-17.**Also it may be of help to you to know first century eschatology teaching from the mighty Paul see all the references available here from page 1444, under Eschatology (end times) in Pauline thought of the NT, in the Gospels, in John, and in Revelations. You will learn what you disclosed here conflicts with Jesus teachings, and the apostles.

Now please answer my question; Do SDA.s pass judgement on Catholics and christians for not keeping their sabbath, and call this the mark of the beast? Now I must admit, I have heard 2 SDA well known pastors teach and pass judgement upon the Catholic church, one admitted this was the sign of the beast, and recently the other confessed it is not? so which is the one you follow?

Exodus 3:18 answers both of your questions. The fact that you can’t see the answers there is the proof that you distort Biblical texts and make them unintelligible.
This is a fundamental tactic being used by SDA’s if they cant give an answer for their SDA belief, they try and confuse others by going to other sources and use the greek to try and cause confusion to the text. The problem SDA’s forget is; The Catholic church transliterated the Hebrew and the Greek text. Who are they trying to kid?

That is why I hope they can confess their SDA belief’s from their hearts as do Catholics. But NOooo! they prefer to use head knowledge using satans tools to distort the true faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Praise be Jesus Christ both now and forever Amen.

So, what you are saying is that clear out of the blue God told Moses to tell the people of Israel to pack up and go out to the wilderness for a 3 day feast. I said nothing about which day. I asked: which feast?
Yeah, pretty much.

The first isn’t biblical. The use of analogy is a way of reasoning, as when Christ noted that Solomon in all his glory wasn’t arrayed as beautifully as the flowers in the field. It isn’t a base for faith.
Yet, you are saying your practice is based on the use of “a way of reasoning”.
Nope. Analogy is reasoning, But reason has to be based on facts. Check your local college to see if they have classes on logic.
Of course, they do. But they are not the Source of my faith, as it appears they are for yours. Catholicism is based upon the revelation of God, sadly, not taught at my local college. 😉

I agree that reason must be based on facts. Faith is based upon revelation. They are two different sources of Truth.
  1. I didn’t make anything up. It is the requirement of a specific Scriptural injunction that is made up.
Catholics believe that the Divine Deposit of Truth has both a written strand, and a “oral” strand. We do not find the command to observe the Jewish Sabbath in either of these. 🤷
  1. Since we know that the Sabbath was observed b4 the law of God was given at Sinai it stands to reason that it was known b4 that time.
Well, I don’t "know"this. I am assuming for the sake of discussion that you have scholarship that concludes as such. We are in agreement that the fact that God rested on the Seventh Day was known by all who embraced the faith of Abraham.
The question is how far back can we go?
You can go back as far as your “analogy” desires. Catholics go back to Jesus Teaching through the Apostles.
Code:
We also know that the Sabbath was known at the time the languages were created at the Tower of Babel--long b4 there ever was a Jew,
Can you please explain where this idea originated? Is this another “analogy”?
which directly undercuts the idea that the Sabbath was only for the Jews
God gave the Sabbath observances to Moses, and he gave them to the Jews. This is a great and precious gift for the sons of Israel, who never had a day of rest.
(are the Jews the only ones who need to know that they were created by the hand of God? Reading the news indicates otherwise.).
I agree that every human needs to know that they are created by the hand of God. What this has to do with the Jewish Sabbath Observance I cannot fathom. Paul was clear when he preached to the Pagans that they needed to acknoledge their creator, and they knew nothing of the Jewish Sabbath Observance. 🤷

"Then Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, "Athenians, I see how extremely religious you are in every way. 23 For as I went through the city and looked carefully at the objects of your worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, ‘To an unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and everything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by human hands, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things. 26 From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live, 27 so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him — though indeed he is not far from each one of us. 28 For ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said,
‘For we too are his offspring.’ Acts 17:22-28
  1. Looking for a specific commandment is legalistic in nature and it ignores the Semitic mindset.
The Semitic mindset was to follow the commandments of God!
They reasoned from facts.
No. they accepted the Revelation of God.
Code:
So, when they read that God brought Eve to Adam and married them they knew what constituted marriage..
No, they did not “read” this. They “heard” this. That is why, when your teaching cannot be found either in the Sacred Tradition or the Sacred Writing, we suspect that it is a man made tradition.
Therefore, marriage is between a man and a woman, not two men or two women.
I think it is quite clear, even after the Sabbath observances were received by the Jews, marriage was not monogamous. This is a Catholic belief. It was instituted by Christ, and promulgated by the Catholic Church.
Yes, you missed it. That was covered in a previous post. Those who oppose the creation as a 7 day event haven’t offered any explanation.
This is true, but that is not what I “missed”. What I cannot understand it how it is that you can define a “day” as sundown to sundown, prior to the existence of a “sun”. Does this not trouble you?

Chronic, habitual cough and the docs can’t do anything about it.

hi dj, 👋 Sorry to hear about that. Seriously, I will pray for you. Prayers can and do work miracles

I did; spent 3 years studying Col. 2:16-7 and you have yet to look at, and interact with, the study I have repeatedly pointed you to.
**
I am guessing ~ a slow reader? Thats OK! But How come you still have it wrong? Who would care about anything you would point to? It is wrong, why waste our time? We have the correct interpretation. We are the real church!**

BTW, go to the bathroom and wash your mouth out with soap for using foul language. Should have learned not to do that years ago as a kid.
**
Actually I didn’t say anything that woudl require that. But since you’re not my Mother might I suggest where you can go? **

Since you take the Bible literally, why don’t you drink His blood? Only the priest do that Mass. What will God say to you when you aren’t consistent?

**dj, dj, dj, :nope: You know a lot of things wrong! We have communion under both species Bread and Wine. However the Body and Blood of Jesus are both received when you receive either one of the species, bread or wine. WE do not take the Bible literally, until Jesus said that you MUST DO SOMETHING then we obey Him. No man has any right to define what is right and wrong - ONLY God! Jesus said what He required and you ignore Him. Good luck with that! 👍 He is our lord and savior we obey Him and His commandments… Others who follow prophets and demons and even Satan can do what they desire. **

I, the word is “pulling” and there’s only one ‘t’ in the word “eating.”
**
Finally something we agree on! 😃 I will be “watching” Professor! 🍿

You are so cute, :whacky: **

And where are the facts that prove I distorted the biblical texts and made them unintelligible?
We are right, you are wrong! That is proof enough isn’t it? You don’t agree with God’s words as we tell you they are meant. I shall give you one example. If I said “Put the kitty on the table” What have I said? What does it mean? If I told you that we are in a veterinarian’s office you would assume it meant to put a cat on the table. If I said we were playing cards you would assume I meant to put some money on the table. With out additional correct information you do not know what "put the kitty on the table means. That is what the Catholic Cghurch is for to inform you of the necessary information you need to correctly interpret the scriptures. Without that correct information you can only make your own interpretation, you assume! Sometimes you might be right, most times your interpretation is distorted and making them unintelligible!

I agree; and I have mentioned this fact before, somewhere on CA here. Many “Protestants” bow down to the Authority of Rome on this point.

There remain many problems, however, with this specific exercise of “authority;” by Rome. First, it denatures the true character of the authority of the Church THAT GOD INTENDED, because try as she might, the Church of Rome cannot escape the fact that this change of “the day of worship” has gone beyond the bounds of Biblical authority.

You cannot base any actions on “authority” alone, apart from God’s Word. His Word is His Authority, by which we would do well to pay more attention to for this subject.

The Sabbath is not just “a day of worship” so in making this "change, Rome, Rome changed much more than just a “day of worship;” and she does presume to add and to take away from God’s Word to suit the Catholic doctrinal practice and preference. Just don’t try and justify it by the Bible.
Paul stated in Colossians 2:11-17 “In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
16** So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.**”

Christ is Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28) and He abolished the Sabbath requirements. Before the Church mandated Sunday as the Day of Worship to be observed by the universal Church, the early Christians probably celebrated Mass whenever an Apostle was available to celebrate it.

“Romans 14:5-6”**** One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike.**** Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks."

After they had enough priests (i.e. bishops, elders, fathers) to celebrate the Mass for the Church on a weekly basis, then they designated the Lord’s Day, (Resurrection) Sunday, as the main day set aside for worship. (cf. Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2)

And the Apostles had every right to change these rules pertaining to the Sabbath because Jesus Himself gave them the authority to “bind and loose” and He tells them that their decisions will be honored in heaven:

Matthew 16:18-19 “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

The “keys of the kingdom” are a sign of “authority” in the ancient world and these “keys” were only given to Peter as head of the Church.

Matthew 18:18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Here Jesus gives this “binding and loosing” authority also to the other apostles but He does not give them the “keys.” They are reserved for Peter and his successors alone. The “keys” are meant to be passed down to the next person after Peter can no longer be head of the Church like the keys of the treasury are passed down to a steward who has been entrusted with them. When the steward can no longer keep the keys, then another steward is appointed.

The writer of Hebrews asserts his authority as one of the leaders of the Church in Hebrews 13:7 “Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.”

To be continued…

Continuation of previous post:

Hebrews 13:17 “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”

Hebrews 13:24 “Greet all those who rule over you, and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you.”

2 Corinthians 10:8 “For even if I should boast somewhat more about our authority, which the Lord gave us for edification and not for your destruction, I shall not be ashamed—” (cf. 2 Corinthians 13:10)

The Apostles were inflexible in their “right” of authority over other Christians.

When asked which commandments that His followers should obey, Jesus stated these: Mark 10:17-19 “Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”
18 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.”

The Sabbath commandment is not mentioned by Jesus as one to be obeyed. Why not? Because this is one thing that was **passing away ** (2 Corinthians 3:10-11) as in Colossians 2:17 “sabbaths which are a shadow of things to come” as listed above in the Scripture passage. The Mass overshadows the Sabbath in every way because we are truly given Jesus’ Body and Blood to eat and drink and it is real food. John 6:55 “For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.”

The Church is serious about its authority because it was given this authority by Jesus and the Apostles commanded obedience to their authority in the preceding Scriptures. Jesus tells the Apostles in Luke 10:16 "He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

Jesus states that if persons reject the Apostles’ teachings or the Church which He founded on Peter, then they are in fact also rejecting Him. This is true AUTHORITY from Jesus which the Catholic Church rightfully claims.

You did a great job on these posts! 👍

Keep it up.

Are SDA’s allowed to read the first 1500 years of Catholic teaching from her martyrs and saints and Popes?

Yes, are Catholics allowed to read what other Christians write? See 666man.net/Colossians_2_16-17_By_David_Conklin/colbiblio.html – I spent 3 years studying the topic and one guy who was ghoing to do his Ph.d. dissertation on Colossians emailed me saying “I think you are the only one who has it right.”

Christ is Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28) and He abolished the Sabbath requirements.
There’s no verse that says Jesus “abolished the Sabbath requirements.” The absence is why most Christians as late as the 5th century were still keeping the Sabbath.
Colossians 2:17 “sabbaths which are a shadow of things to come”

It isn’t the Sabbath that is a shadow–it is a memorial to God’s Creation of life on this world–it is the eating and drinking that are shadows–which, BTW, the believers at Colossae were doing without being chewed out by Paul for doing so. And the shadow is of things yet to come (future tense).

Yet, you are saying your practice is based on the use of “a way of reasoning”.
No. The analogy was used as a way to explain things.
But they are not the Source of my faith, as it appears they are for yours. Catholicism is based upon the revelation of God,
Your premise about what SDA’s teach is in error. The doctrines of the SDA church are based on God’s Written Word.
I agree that reason must be based on facts. Faith is based upon revelation. They are two different sources of Truth.
We agree. And yet when I try to use reason it is condemned as being the source of my faith, which it is not.

Can you please explain where this idea originated? Is this another “analogy”?

I explained this several times–perhaps you missed it in this long thread. Dr William Mead Jones studied foreign languages to see what they called the seventh day of the week. He found that over 100 called the seventh day “sabbath” Spanih is a classic and well-known example.

Obviously, facts are not an analogy.

First of all, an analogy has nothing to do with this. Do you know what an analogty is? Since I didn’t buy into the Marcion heresy that split the Bible in two I use the whole Bible.

The Semitic mindset was to follow the commandments of God!
And yet they repeatedly went against God’s will! My point was that the Semitic mindset isn’t like our Greek mindset.

God didn’t tell them that marriage was between a man and a woman. They reasoned it out from the Creation account. God didn’t tell them that the first-born was to lead the house-hold. They reasoned it out from the Creation account. They were created in the image of God and so when God rested on the seventh day so did they.

God gave the Sabbath observances to Moses, and he gave them to the Jews. When did God give the Sabbath observance to Moses? What aboput all the Jews befroe Moses? If the Sabbath was only for the Jews why didn’t Jesus says so? Jesus said the Sabbath was for man, he didn’t say anything about the Jews. Jesus is the Savior of all mankind, not just the Jews. Otherwise, only the Jews will be keeping the Sabbath on the new earth.

You said God gave the Sabbath, now you say it is man-made, which is the lie?

Jesus clearly taught that that was not the way it was supposed to be. I don’t need a group of people to tell me which way is up.
What I cannot understand it how it is that you can define a “day” as sundown to sundown, prior to the existence of a “sun”.
I don’t agree woth your preconcieved POV that the first 3 days of creation had day and night without a sun–doesn’t that bother you?

There’s no verse that says Jesus “abolished the Sabbath requirements.”

No verse, but an entire chapter, I would direct you to 2 Corinthians 3 which points out that the letter of the law graven in stone was replaced by the law written by the Holy Spirit on the believers’ hearts.
2 Corinthians 3
1Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? 2You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. 3You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone

I would direct you to 2 Corinthians 3 which points out that the letter of the law graven in stone was replaced by the law written by the Holy Spirit on the believers’ hearts.
That was predicted in what is called the “OT”:

Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The law that is written on the hearts is the same as the one that was on stone.
You don’t need a memorial when you have the real thing.
Then you don’t need the Mass either. If your argument was logical then baptism by immersion wouldn’t have been given to us a memorial to Christ’s death and resurrection. We need the memorial to Creation to reminds us that we didn’t evolve out of a pea-soup bog. You are created in the image of God to give glory to Hiom, by loving Him with all your heart, mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself.

Do you celebrate Christmas, and your birthday? Don’t you have the real there too? This is called an analogy. 👍

Neither the Mass nor Baptism is a memorial. They are both the real thing. Jesus makes creation ever present to us.
