Why is the birth of Mother Mary not mentioned in the Holy Bible (66 books?)

Also, this doesn’t make her higher than God. All her power comes through God. This makes her the mother of God (who is timeless, so there is no time issues, none that we can understand anyway)

Also, note the Fifth Commandment, ‘Honor thy Father and Mother’. Jesus keeps these commandments perfectly! And how great an honor does he show to Mary, the greatest of all us humans, to make her Queen of Heaven! She has the highest seat in heaven aside from the Trinity, but she is not part of the Trinity.

To put it in this way; If I have a son who becomes King, I am not of equal power to him, he may even shun me. However, if he’s a good son, he will show me the highest respect and offer me a place of honor in his kingdom. Just as the Trinity did for Mary.
Beautiful way to state the faith! The Church is fortunate to have people zealous for their faith coming in to the Church. Welcome home Jerok!

No, the Trinity is 3 person of 1 nature, not 3 persons of 3 natures (polytheism) or 1 person of 3 natures (???) etc. 3 Person (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) of one divine nature (God). All encompass infinity in everything; there is nothing one can do that the other can’t, except in terms of their relationships to each other (Father begetting Son, Father + Son begetting The Holy Spirit.)

She was the Mother of Christ, 1 person of the Holy Trinity, who is FULLY God, so she is the mother of God. Not just the person of Christ, but the Divine nature of Christ too… and since there’s only 1 nature, she’s the mother of God.

This is a mystery to understand in human terms, and I’m not even sure how it all works, but I have hope that I’ll understand completely in heaven 👍
I guess I get the point after your patient explanation of it. Yes, I understand Christ was all God, thus by giving birth Mother Mary is by definition, the Mother of God (gave birth to Christ, who was God in the flesh). Got it. I’m tracking, but isn’t that what I said before? Mary, Mother of God, the Son (Still all God. I never said, Mary Mother of Jesus). Even on this forum you have the advertisement for the three book series, “Mary, Mother of the Son”. I hope someone is jumping all over him for saying the same thing I said (I thought I addressed it more respectfully and accurately, Mother of God, the Son).

Take Care and May God Bless!

Ed

By the way, I notice that you’re using a Protestant translation of the Bible. Protestant translations omit seven books from the Old Testament, and a few brief segments from others. You should get a Catholic version (not that it would actually contain the fourth story you’re looking for, but you’ll find other problems).
Mary is mentioned no more in Catholic versions than she is in Protestant versions however…there is nothing “missing” about Mary in Protestant versions of the Bible that is not present in Catholic versions.🙂

Ed, would it help if we said Mary, Earthly Mother of God? Because we do not hold or mean to imply that she is divine, or the source of God, just God’s Mother. And her status in Heaven now is directly related to that. She was created, called and chosen and she responded with the appropriate cooperation with God, and he has elevated her appropriately.

Just to be clear, we are not implying that Mary is divine or that she preceded the existence of God in any way. Just that she was created and called to be God’s mother, and that she responded to God’s grace in a unique and singular way. As a result of God’s grace and Mary’s cooperation therewith, God became incarnate within her. He took on flesh inside of her. She gave birth to him from whom the Church and therefore all salvation sprang. And she helped bring peoples’ needs to him (i.e., the wedding at Cana). She always pointed others to her Son. Thus, she is rightly called the Mother of God, the Mother of the Church, our Mother. In fact, she is the very model of what we are to be, because we are supposed to respond to God’s grace by allowing him to take on flesh within us (by eating of the Eucharist) and by pointing the rest of the world towards Christ. In other words, by becoming like Mary, we will become like Christ, because Christ became incarnate in the Virgin Mary and she pointed all to him.

Are Mary’s parents mentioned in the Catholic Bible?

Merry Christmas!
No… you can find them in the so-called Protoevangelium of James however (the link goes tot he text on the Catholic Encyclopedia by the way).
It is an interesting story, but not Scripture and we do not have to believe that any of this is true.

Merry Christmas!

Correct, which is why I mentioned that it didn’t apply to this particular story. The Deuterocanonicals are more important for Catholic dogmas like Purgatory.

Two corrections, otherwise your post is good.

First the Holy Spirit is not “begotten” from the Father and the Son, He “proceeds” from the Father. This is the Faith of the Church given to us by the Holy Spirit in the 1st & 2nd Ecumenical Councils.

Proceeding and being Begotten are two different things all together. The Holy Spirit proceeds and the Son is begotten. The eternal source of both is God the Father Almighty.

Second it is the Nestorian Heresy to say that Mary is the Mother of Christ. It’s that title which the Council was called together over and the Holy Spirit through the 3rd Council comdemned Nestorious for teaching that Mary is the Mother of Christ. The Council ruled it to be a Heresy.
Thank you; I said begot and I should have said proceed, and now I understand the distinction. Words are tricky sometimes 😛

Could you explain why it’s a heresy to say she’s the mother of Christ (which then follows she is the mother of God)? Is saying she’s the mother of Jesus the same sort of heresy? Is it because I said Christ instead of Jesus, or is it because if I say ‘Christ’ it implies she isn’t the Mother of God. I really want to know 😃

It’s not a heresy to say she’s the Mother of Christ. It would be heresy (for a Catholic) to say she’s the Mother of ONLY Christ. You can use the term Mother of Christ and Mother of God interchangeably. Jesus the Christ is God incarnate.

Christ means the “anointed one”.

Honestly I don’t fully understand “why” it’s heresy to say Mary is the Mother of Christ, but I do know that it is what the Heretic Nestorius taught and the Holy Spirit through the Ecumenical Counsel of Ephesus in 431 condemned him and that teaching.

The heretic’s line of reasoning was: “The Son of God is eternal, the Son of Man died, Christ, though eternal died. One should not, therefore, say that God was born of the Virgin because that attributes a human activity to the divinity. The Virgin then is more correctly called Christotokos (Mother of Christ) than Theotokos (Mother of God).”

Anyone who agrees with Nestorius’ line of reasoning is a buying into the Heresy condemned in the Counsel of Ephesus.

To read more about this from a Catholic source, you can read “The First Seven Ecumenical Councils (325-787) Their History and Theology” by Catholic Historian Leo Donald Davis ISBN # 0-8146-5616-1

Some of the posts have been really enlightening.

This is my point of view.
Code:
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

In the OT we find that God had already promised to destroy the satan . So you think satan was just waiting to be destroyed without trying any of his manipulations? He was all game to win and win and WIN, and that was his motto. WIN at any cost. So what does he do? He gets false information that the child promised is already born and hence he goes on a killing rampage killing many children during the time of Moses. Oh oh, its false alarm, so he starts thinking what must God be up to? He sends his soldiers hither thither to find out but God is very secretive.

Now lets come to few years before AD. A miracle takes place, a girl is born to old parents. See God wanted His Son to come from a place which was as Holy as the Ark of the covenant in OT. Now would you say that this birth was ordinary? I don’t think so, cause the child did not have any ordinary life as she was devoted to the temple, meaning she was in a place she loved most. Close to God. That’s why she may have said YES when Angel Gabriel came to her , as that was the very purpose she came to be born.

Satan is still wondering, when and where this child will be born? But is clueless. Poor fella, tries to play with God, and he is clueless of the girl born to Zachariah and Elizabeth. Because its too secretive, if not he would have harmed Mother Mary when she was young, but God was too clever for him after all God is our creator and knows what to do and when. Some on this forum feel that the birth of Mother Mary was just an ordinary thing and she too was a commoner until chosen. But I don’t think that can be true. If God had predicted her in Genesis, than He must have created her special with no sin.

Finally we come to the birth of Jesus, and lo, satan smells and realizes that he has been fooled once again, and he does not keep quite. Again goes on a rampage killing thousands of children. But do you think God would allow satan to have an upper hand?
NO NEVER.

i’m sure you’re well aware of the difference beetween the Catholic belief and the Orthodox belief. but this being a Catholic forum, we’ll go with the Catholic teaching 😉 👍

It depends which orthodox church your talking about with numbers of books. The OCA would accept 12 and others 14 and 18 and 21.The orthodox have spats among them selves all the time,Why else would you hve three diffrent russian orthodox bodies? And all fighting. Also dont forget the old believers and the Oriental Orthodox Churches some of which are in coummioun with the catholic church(coptics to some degree)

the Apostles said, we should hold on to what passed down to us through word OR letter 🙂

the Bible mentions important things about Mary, for example that she is full of grace, blessed among women, highly favoured, the Ark of the New Covenant, Queen of Heaven, obedient to God, etc… the rest is taught by Sacred Tradition

We have four miracelous births that took place but the fourth is missing in the holy bible that I have NIV and I believe most Holy Bibles which have 66 books. Why?
  1. Isaac to Abraham and Sara in their old age.
  2. Samson to Manoh and his wife ( in the book of Judges, only 6 chapters are given to his story)
  3. John the Baptist to Zachariah and Elizabeth ( old age)
but the most important one is missing and that is
  1. Mother Mary to Joaquim and Anna ( again in old age)
Would someone shed some light on this as to why it was omitted from the Holy Bible?

Mother Mary was a miracle child born thru God’s intervention and hence born without sin, which many dont accept.
There is no official doctrine of the Catholic Church which states that Mary’s conception and birth happened to an OLD couple. Some CHOOSE to believe that, but it’s not a doctrine. The only doctrine of the Church in RE Mary’s birth is that at the moment of her conception the redeeming power of Christ’s crucifixion was applied to her (God knows no time) and that she was conceived without the taint of original sin…

IMO - Mary doesn’t come on the biblical scene until AFTER her birth; therefore, it wasn’t necessary to give the details about her birth. The OT prophesies simply say that a virgin will conceive. That virgin is Mary. The OT prophecies do not speak in any prophetic way about the mother of the redeemer; it is wasn’t on the radar of the writers of the NT gospels to be alert to anything concerning Mary. This was revealed AT THE PROPER TIME; when the person of Jesus Christ was in greater need of understanding.

ALSO – never forget that the scriptures were NEVER INTENDED to be the complete deposit of faith that Jesus gave the apostles.

I know that is Roman Catholic doctrine that PJ II said it was okay for Catholics to either believe or not believe it. Eastern Catholics do not insert it into the Creed the “Filioque cluae” and PJ II at times would say the Creed w/out the addition.

Aside from that though, my post was responding to someone not yet Catholic who mistakenly thought that the Holy Spirit is “Begotten” rather than “Proceeds”. Only Christ Jesus the Word, the Son is “Begotten” both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches agree on that fact. 👍
