I’ve been thinking about this issue for quite some time and I just wanted to hear what Catholics say about it.

The dust that you see on the ground was once a horse, I care not to beat it further. I’d suggest you do a search of this topic.

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, this question might be better suited for the “Apologetics” forum which is meant discussion on doctrine issues; more people with capacity to answer intelligently will probably see your question there as it is a forum for that sort of thing.

This is the “Traditional Catholicism” forum where you will probably find very conservative Catholics. Nothing wrong with conservative Catholics, I’m one of them, but this forum is used for discussion of traditional issues like the Latin Mass and such. There is also an “Ask an Apologist” forum where your question will be answered by a professional Catholic Apologist.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

Have a good day!!!

To get you started, please see this active thread.

One of the thread’s posters is Melinda Selmys, a writer and past guest on Catholic Answers Live (the radio show arm of this website) who was once a lesbian who has become a Catholic mom, who has many thoughts on not only the grave issues with homosexuality, but how to discuss it in a charitable manner, letting the Holy Spirit do its job rather than we as people trying to argue, reason, threaten or insinuate that a person with same-sex attraction is somehow evil, per se.

You should find many links or references to official Church teachings in that thread. You can also read a tract at Catholic.com for a more theological article with sources as well.

“Thou shalt not lie down with mankind as with womankind, it is an abomination” - Leviticus 18:22

“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; **men with men **working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.” - Romans 1:26-27

But God doesn’t hate homosexuals, and neither do we. And any hate, bullying, harassment, or fear towards homosexuals is condemned. Hate the sin, but love the sinner, as God does.

It’s not that were against it it’s that gay marriage can’t exist by nature of the Sacrament, the Sacrament requires that it is a Bride (Female) and Groom (Male), a Same Sex marriage can’t exist due to this.

I agree and love the way you stated it! 😃

OP, if you do a search on the topic here at CAF, you will find many, many, many, many other threads that have already discussed it previously. There is no point in saying the same things over again here in this thread. A search will give you answers. I’ll seach for you and post a few links to threads to get you started reading, but there are many other threads on the topic beyond the few I will post below.

By the way, I posted links to only 10 threads. My search on “gay marriage” produced 22,900 results. I’m sure you would get more with a search on “same sex marriage,” “homosexuality,” etc. There are many existing discussions to read on the topic here at CAF. Happy searching and reading!

In Leviticus what the writer was referring to was rape. And in Romans the writer is only talking about lust.

In the modern world and historians have searched more into this topic. There have been a ton of articles on this (not on here) just google it.

The CCC clearly states the compassionate position of the Church concerning homosexuality. This can be found at 2357. Directly following this the CCC goes on to talk about marriage. What it is, what it means, and who is involved. One point to really pay attention to is in 2366 dealing with fecundity when it states that “each and every marriage act must remain open to the transmission of life”. This is something that is clearly impossible in homosexual relationships. Remember, when it is said that the Church teaches this or that it is really that Christ teaches us through the Church.

There is just so much in the Old and New Testaments that speak quite strongly against such acts. Not just from one book but from many books in the bible. And the Catholic Church has never changed its teaching against such actions.

Now we know there is a distinction between being homosexual and doing homosexual.
The former is not a sin, but the later is. If someone has a problem with the later, then it is the same as anyone else that has a problem with being pure and chaste before God. All of us have to be pure and all of us have to have recourse to our dear Jesus for the help to maintain this purity whatever there state in life is, including the married at times. If it is difficult then isn’t life itself difficult. We live in a world of thorns not roses. And God did not promise us a heavenly world but a difficult one in which he would help us live if we but ask him. His promise is for eternal bliss in the next life by his side forever happy and joyous. If we but pray, we will find the strength we need for he promised us that he would give it to those who asked. Here is something that is for EVERYONE that will help in purity.

Here is some important info about the Miraculous Medal, one of Mother Theresa’s
favorites.

“Have a medal struck… All who wear it will receive GREAT graces; they should wear it
around the neck. GRACES will ABOUND for persons who wear it with CONFIDENCE.”
From the mother of Jesus spoken to sister Catherine Laboure 1830.

“Great graces are often attached to what seems trifling.” St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

“The devotions we practice in honor of the glorious Virgin Mary, however trifling they be,
are very pleasing to her divine Son, …” St. Teresa of Jesus

During this apparition, Mary’s hands had 3 rings on each finger. Each ring gave off
rays of colored light. A few rings did not. Mary said that the lights radiating from
the rings are graces that people ASK for. The rings that didn’t radiate she said
were graces not given because they were NOT asked for.

Have it blessed. The devil hates blessed objects. Keep it on all all times.
Wear her medal in her honor because the devil can’t stand her either.

Then say, “Mary I am asking now for great graces which
you promised to those who ask and believe in what you said.”
Trust her, it works. She is the mother of God. Would she lie?
Your mother wants to help you. It is her gift to you. She promised and she will diliver.

“Yes, blessed is she who BELIEVED that the PROMISE made her by the Lord would be FULFILLED.” Lk. 1;45) St. Elizabeth extolling Mary’s strong trust in God’s promise.

I’ve been thinking about this issue for quite some time and I just wanted to hear what Catholics say about it.
that is like asking why the Catholic Church is against the tooth fairy:
neither “gay marriage” nor the “tooth fairy” exist.

Marriage is the union of one man and one woman for the purpose of procreation and intimate union both of which are icons of the Trinity. Therefore the concept of “gay marriage” is a logical absurdity that simply cannot happen. The marriage act that opens the couple to God’s creative action and to this intimate union cannot happen except between two persons of the opposite sex, because that is the way human bodies are made.

I can ruin my fountain pen by trying to pry open a can, but that does not make it a can opener, so it is absurd to pick up a pen and call it a “can opener”. I can shove a carrot into a pencil sharpener, but that will not give me a writing implement, so it is absurd to call a carrot a “pencil”.

Because it goes against natural law… Personally I just think Catholics should have the right to say no to it and the Church be allowed to speak its mind against it… Whether or not it gets legalized for civil marriages i’m pretty much apathetic.

We’re against gay “marriage” because we’re against gay sex.

We’re against gay sex because it’s an abominable affront to the natural order of being.

Hope that helps!

And there ya go. Succinct and to the point. 👍

You’ve just admitted to being indifferent towards the morality of the society you live in.

That’s the equivalent of accepting moral relativism, which is anathema to Catholicism.

I’ll worry about what’s going on in my country… The affairs of America are not your concern 🙂

I don’t tell Australia how to run itself 😃

John why don’t you run along and see what pretty little Julia is doing to the outback 🙂

Your impertinence makes it obvious that you are blind to the fact that your society and my society are a part of western civilisation, the basic tenets of which are under threat. Keep up this type of insulting response and not only will you be displaying your ignorance on world affairs, but you will get yourself banned. CAF welcomes people from all around the world, in case you haven’t noticed. And, in case you didn’t know it, “Catholic” means universal.

Listen I’m not indifferent to same sex marriage… I firmly oppose it… And your part of the church just as much as I will be in April…

But everything I post you challenge and are mean about it… I’m not saying anymore…

@RCIA4

Lets try your post an another topic:

divorce - “Personally I just think Catholics should have the right to say no to it and the Church be allowed to speak its mind against it… Whether or not it gets legalized i’m pretty much apathetic.”

If the issue was divorce would your response be the same?
