Why is the Catholic Church hated so much?

Wait, don’t drop the martyr card so quickly.
I think all religions are under attack in the media. The Catholics are just more exposed:
  • longer history to dig into, equals more stories
  • higher membership count means more sinners to transgress, equals more stories
there is no such a thing is membership in teh CC. you cant judge the Church through the eyes of your religion or any other. i wouldnt put the Holy Church of God in equal place as man made religion.

Catholics behaving badly is a major reason. I just came across this news article on another site.** It takes alot of positive PR to overcome this stuff**“Ninos Rabados”: Spain’s Stolen Children

A firestorm in Spain is brewing over a decade’s long, systematic cover-up that snatched babies away from their mothers and placed them into the arms of the dictator Generalissimo Franco’s regime. It is estimated that between 1950 and the early 80’s, 300,000 babies were taken from parents deemed “undesirable” and sold to loyalists of General Franco. This pipeline is also thought to have been orchestrated with direct aid of the Catholic Church in Spain and has left a country wondering the fate of the “Ninos Rabados” — the stolen children.
What’s the evidence? Is it merely thought so because of propensity to explain such horrific things via government/catholic church conspiracy theories, or actual evidence?

I think the answer to this question is quite simple. There is a lot of debating why on this thread, people talking about the sins of the past, the sins of the present and all kinds of other reasons. The Church is made up of humans who have sinned, are sinning and will continue to sin but Jesus said he would never leave us and he said the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church so in answer to this question the bottom line is Jesus gave us the answer already.

18“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. 19If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. John Chapter 15.

People will either hate the Church for what they think is is and of course they are wrong or half right or they will hate it for what they know it is but are not willing to give up what they have.

Maybe a better question might be is ,“how do you handle persecution when it comes your way?”

A couple of ideas: pray, know your faith, remember what Jesus and saints before us went through and don’t act the same way.

very true. the world hates the Jews and the CC, they hate both. in the holocaust, it was jews and Catholics that were murdered by the millions. Troughout the history of the Church, Catholics have been persecuted and murdered by imperors and monarchs. yet, no one see us going around crying about it.

To the OP I dont believe that the church is hated. I just know that as catholics we have alot of policies and members that feel very strongly in their opinions whether right or wrong even when there is no clear definitive answer and the only authority for such answers would be members of the clergy.

I’m no expert, but if you read my post I put on here, and imagine I was a young person having questions for the church. The responses I’d recieved would cause me to turn away.
That would because you are not prepared to accept and follow all of the Catholic Church’s doctrines. I do not know how you have the sheer arrogance to criticise Catholics for promoting and defending the doctrine of the Church.

When I read some of these postings which seem to support harsh repression of ‘heresy’ and even minimize and defend the Inquisition, then it is easier to understand why so many non-Catholics are skeptical of Catholicism.
Americans, certainly, are overwhelmingly committed to total freedom of religion and the separation of church and state. The notion, endorsed by some posters, that persecution of Protestants and other heretics if justified is scary. If I thought most Catholics felt that way I would worry much more about Catholicism than I do. This sort of poppycock just feeds anti-Catholicism.

Have you heard of the Ulster Irish and their tolerance and beliefs in freedom of Religion that is part of the American heritage?

We are not here to please you but God. it is right to repress heresies to save as many souls as possible. We are not concerned about life in this world but we are more concern with the souls going to the fires of hell.

only evil can defend evil.

Thank God that Americans, and the vast majority of Catholics, disagree with you. Sounds like you would support a clerical totalitarianism that would execute non-Catholics. Right out of the nonsense that made the rounds when the medieval Church was burning witches and others suspected of heresy. Really sad,

You now occupy a place high on my prayer list. God bless you and lead you to wisdom that you apparently seek. That certainly would not include rampant persecution that you seem to endorse. Perhaps you're 'just talking'. Hope so.

No, i am not just talking. Because the Church has been silent for so long, heretical views have spread like a wild fire. and that is why today we have so many divorces, abortions, gay marriage, gay adoption, and great loss of Faith in God. congratulations to those who supports separations of state and Church. they are not concerned with the cause of God but of evil. they enjoy seing evil spreading because that is what pleases them. they want to have a good life in this earth. well, have your good life in this earth. It is the duty of the Church to protect the Truth and to expose falsehoods against God. and the state is called to work for the Church in suppress heresies. Governments are to be Catholics and help the Church to convert souls to Christ.

Jesus Himself said, if he doesnt listen to the Church treat him as an anathema, a tax collector. Jesus said, if the town rejects you, shake the dust of your sandals and leave, i think you know Jesus says after that.

We must obey God on how to deal with heresies. We dont go around burning anybody for believing heresies, but those who intend to spread heresies to take souls to hell, he must be suppressed.

Hm, looks like you’ve answered the op’s question.

Congratulations to those who created unGodly governments to please them and not God. when you take God out of the government, satan moves in, and God is grieved. Hope you all are pleased with what you have done.

there is only one winner here, and it is satan.
