It seems that everywhere you go on the internet, people are either anti catholic or anti theist.

It gets tiring after a while.

For example, if you go on a rosary video on YouTube, there are so many comments by Protestants who are trying to “expose” the Catholic Church. There are thousands of anti catholic videos and users. It makes me so sad and angry reading their comments calling us Pagans and satanists.
Don’t even get me started about Instagram.

There is one point they often make that concerns me.
Did Constantine create a new church? What’s the deal with that? I haven’t heard that until recently.

Also, how do I defend the Inquisition?

I also can’t 100% get behind some of the things Pope Francis says and the papacy is another thing that we get attacked for.

It really is annoying and tiresome. I try to avoid YouTube comments.

The Internet is (perceived to be) a consequence-free zone, so people who would otherwise stay out of the way are trying to rile things up.

I think that’s a Gnostic idea that has started to take hold among some Protestants and Restorationists. For the Gnostics, they’re still sad that they lost at the Council of Nicaea. The others are trying to justify their existence.

What’s the Council of Nicaea? Who was in it?

Nevermind. If I can write a reply I can do a google search.

Matthew 10:22

"You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.

I meant how do I defend the Church against people who use that to paint the Church as evil

Jn 15:18 "If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first."

Don’t be sad. These things happened and we expect them.

The Catholic Church is the Church that Jesus left behind. The world, which comes in various forms, hates her but we must persevere on because Jesus is with us.

People notice negative things more than we notice positive things. It’s just psychology messing with you.

My priest used to say of course the Holy Spirit guides the Catholic Church. Look at all the wrong done by INDIVIDUALS under the name of the Church; the Inquisition, the Pedophilia scandal, and he says he tells Protestants, there are MANY more sinful people under the name of Catholic that have engaged in sinful behavior, but we are still here, 2000 some years later.

Thus that should be proof enough the Holy Spirit is guiding the Catholic Church until the end of the age and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

The heavens rejoice over one sinner who repents.

The internet is Anti-Catholic because the Catholic Church is countercultural. It always has been (Christendom excluded in name but not in practice); it’s our Christian heritage!

Defending the Inquisition is tough, and it’s honestly okay to recognize that the Church has made mistakes in the past (the inquisition being a serious one of them), and while I adore Pope Francis and agree with him on all issues, it is okay to respectfully disagree with the pope too. His teachings are to be respected, but the pope is not infallible (even though Francis is close 😉

That’s kinda fallacious. If we’re using longevity as proof of truth, then we should note that Judaism’s been around much longer, and Islam for almost as long.

Doesn’t contradict what I said, at any rate. Nobody should defend the Inquisition.

Judaism doesn’t have its temple practices for some time

I didn’t do the best job. He wasn’t trying to defend the inquisition. The point this priest was trying to make is it’s not the exemplary behavior of Catholics that have sustained the Church, it’s the grace of our God, our ever loving, ever JUST, ever forgiving God for those who repent.

His point is WE are not responsible for the continuity of the Catholic Church, the Holy Spirit is.

Hope I made that more clear.

God Bless.

It kind of is incomplete since temple worship is a central part of the religion.

And? Methods of worship evolve. They certainly have in the Church throughout the millennia.

Also, how do I defend the Inquisition?
What I think people don’t realize about the Spanish Inquisition is that the tales about it were greatly exaggerated for known reasons.

For more than a century, England and Spain were extreme rivals- 2 superpower and religion was one of the points where they were divided over. The Spanish Armada was a point of contention, needless to say.

A lot of stories become exaggerated when countries are in virtual war.

England also had disputes with other Catholics, Mary Tudor had a bad rep, the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot is still a holiday in England, the excommunication of Elizabeth I, etc.

When you have a situation like this, stories can get out of control

I’ve tried defending the faith from the thoughtless attackers on YouTube and Facebook. It’s pointless, those people are only seeking to win an argument, not to have an educated discussion. The Internet is of this world, but Christ is not. That is why it hates His Church. Pray for those who persecute you.
