okay, that makes much more since - though I am very sad there is such a difference between Latin and Eastern Catholics. I am not to familiar with the differences - but im hoping we are still very similiar??? besides the whole married thing. Aparently you edited your last post - i was trying to reply to it and then it disappeared – but i did notice the part about me being really young and having a lot to learn about life in general (something like that)😃 which i find kind of funny – maybe i shouldnt have told you my age so you wouldn’t use that against me?? im not oblivious to society and whats going on around me - im not that kind of a teenager. and ive had struggles of my own that have taught me a lot about life - so please don’t say that (thats probably why you edited it, but i am not very knowledgable about the differences between Eastern and Latin Catholics as mentioned above (maybe because im young?😛 im just kidding) so I dont know why their is such a difference in this discipline, but i do prefer unmarried priests - though like mentioned before understand married converts - such as protestant pastors - are an exception. sorry i didnt understand your last post about the diaconate.

Eastern Rites: A Family Tree

melissa, be happy you are young. I had a rough life too. I know. BUt you do have a long way to go. Had you not shown me you age I may have told you things way over your head that I’m not sure you’d understand with so little education from which to draw. Trust me on this. Education does make an enormous difference in how we perceive things. I wanted to include some links that I couldn’t find fast enough. I wrote a post and forgot to include links. BTW: Don’t think people use your age against you. Those of us that are older understand that we have a responsiblilty to protect you…All men are supposed to protect all women all the time…period. Like it or not …take it or leave it… but it still doesn 't change no matter what people decide to do. It’s part of being a spiritual father. You see all men are called to be spiritual fathers, not just the priests and bishops or even the deacons. Did you know that the Orthodox call their deacons “father”. The “father” you hear is more of a modern tradition that Fr. Vincient Serpa told me on the radio a few months back.

That’s what I deleted. I just tell you out right. I’ve spoken with many “famous” Catholics over the past year. My journey home did not come without a lot of pain. My wife’s mother can not know about our conversion. Go to this link to find out why coctocatholic.com/forum/ ]

I’ve spoken to Bruce Sullivan another former COC *. I also spoke with Fr. Benjamin Luther, mentioned in Bruces book and both of them appeared on the Journey Home to discuss their conversion story. I called Fr. Luther, and I could tell he really liked receiving my call. Priests live somewhat of a loanly life and love talking to people, especially those that remind them of why they converted and/or convict their lives to such dedicated vocations as the priesthood. I’ve spokent with Fr. Vincent Serpa a few times now. Once or twice over the phone and a few times on the air, not to mention via email or PM. Like I said my famliy’s conversion was not without cost. I had to leave my desires to become a preacher behind. Only now I realize that I can still do that as a deacon. Permanent deacons were a bit of a mystery to me in the past. As I studied the permanent diaconate I began to realize that maybe that was what God called me to, but he led me to my sweet wife to help her along with her journey home the the Catholic Church. After putting htis on paper and remembering your age, I realize that this might be too much for someone your age. I hesitate to tell you the rest of my story because it involves some seriously sinful things that others did to me. Fortunately my new Catholic pastor is a “good guy”.

As far as the Eastern and Western Catholic Church is concerned, you should learn more about your Eastern brothers and sisters. We are in communion together. The Orthodox have valid sacraments and Pope John Paul II spoke of the Orthodox and the Catholic Church as the two lungs of the Church. You would need to study the history of the Church to better understand this. Both the Western and Eastern Church had bishops guilty of horrible things. You’d need to pull up a good book or accurate link on the subject just to begin to get a grip on it. I’ve spent countless hours studying and have only skimmed the surface.

It’s wonderful that you are so sincere about your faith at such a young age. Protect it. It’s like a pearl…heard that one too I’m sure. It’s a treasure. A vocation is also a treasure that must be nurtured and protected. Ignore friends that make fun of vocations and love of God, they are seriously separating themselves from God with such nonsense. Pray earnestly for them. They are in much need of conversion. And it’s important for some of us to know your age. Trust me. My life has been extremely rough. I didn’t think so until I started comparing it to others in conversation. But I won’t bore you with the details. You have the “whole world in front of you”. Just remember not to be of the world.

This is what makes us so uniques and actually what converted me in the end back to Latin Catholicism. Not only does the Catholic Church believe in the communion of Saints, praying or seeking intercessions form them but so does the Orhtodox and the Eastern Catholics, who are basically Orhtodox in communion with Rome. They have validly ordained priests just like the Latin Catholics and the fact that they are marriage usually shocks people. But know that really releaves an old anti-Catholic rant I’m just sick of now. Celibacy is an ancient Tradition that is not doctrine it is a discipline. And sure, I want celibate priests too. Most of us do. But to add to the confusion, and this is where age may be a problem, there are men that could identify more with a married clergy or priest. Sure they can talk to a deacon, but a deacon cannot absolve sin in the confession. It would also help root out the anti-Catholic rant about our priests being gay. That is just not true. In any community you will always have a profile that will be reflective of the society from which they come. That’s basica demographics. My degree is in Geography. As much as I love Byzantines I realized that we also have the same heritage that goes back to the early church. That is not only one Church to prove the herritage, but actually at least 24 in the Catholic Church alone. Then if you consider the Orthodox Church that broke in 1025 from the Latin Church over some pretty understandable things like the “Sack of Constantine”… and many other things. But this was mostly a build up of cultural long winded long memory resentment over many different things to much to go into here. Trust me, this may become a fundamental foundation for proof of your faith later on when life begins to get to you and anti-Catholics attack you. I too was a very devout faithful Catholic in high school. People are people no matter where they go in life. Priests and deacons and even bishops fall short of the glory of God too. 'scripture btw] The Church consists of sinners, not perfect people…well the Saints are made perfect in Heaven. But you know what I mean. These things I hold onto to encourage me. I learned to understand my own faith of birth by learing about the theology and the liturgies of the East. The differences are so slight. But to you it might be scary because you haven’t crossed that path yet. They have a rich culture that I’d love to see all of us return to in the Divine Liturgy esepecially.

Thanks dosdog for your links.👍

Pax tecum.
vocatio…means vocation for my vocation to the diaconate.

The issue of Celibacy is what you are really questioning. The devotion to God is one reason, as it is important that God’s will be done, and our lives are so short that by the time we learn a few things we pass on.
The beauty of Celibacy is the peace that comes from being like Jesus, charity is love, by helping the souls find life in God is a 24/7 job, although grace is a primacy, woe to me if I do not preach.
