But now you have made it a requirement, thus you have decided to “improve” on Christ.
Making rules for the Church doesn’t constitute attempting to “improve on Christ.” If my local Church makes a rule that says no parking in a handicapped zone, does that mean we’re trying to “improve on Christ” because Christ imposed no such rule? If my church makes a rule that says “no cell phones allowed” does that mean they’re trying to “improve on Christ” since Christ made no such rule? That’s absurd. Jesus gave his church the authority to make rules. You can argue that this particular rule is a bad idea, but even if it is a bad idea, that still doesn’t equal anyone trying to “improve on Christ.”

But you have through your tradition of man made it a requirement that priests be celibate. Contrary to any requirement of Christ.
Not “contrary.” “Contrary” would be if Jesus required His clergy to be married and the church required them not to be. The fact that Jesus didn’t enact a particular rule doesn’t mean the Church lacks authority to do so. Jesus gave His Church the authority to make rules.

Hisalone, since when did the Roman Catholic church make it a requirement for all priest’s to be celibate? For a priest to be celibate is not a requirement by the Catholic church. Celibacy is volunteered by the Priests, the church does not force her will on anyone. The celibacy in the west are for those who are called by God to do so, this is not for just anyone, as Jesus and Paul states in scripture.

For a priest or religious (this includes our precious Nuns) man to give up all the worldly, passions, possessions, and desires for the kingdom of God, Is a living example of the True body of Jesus Christ in the world. For these are consecrated men and women unto the Lord, they are no longer of the world, for they have died to the world, and live for God and his body the Roman Catholic church on earth.

Peace be with you

This comment shows a total lack of knowledge of your own church Celibacy is volunteered by the Priests, the church does not force her will on anyone. of course it does. A requirement, no, but Jesus DOES allude to it and there are those who all called to it. I also dont think it should be a requirement, but to those who would be called to it, such as those in religious orders, then it is a commendable practice. As a side note, many world religions have those who follow this path.
Since antiquity, Pagans and Satan have always tried to duplicate the sacred holy things of God so as to decieve. I hope you are not comparing celibacy of the Catholic Priests as a pagan rite. For Jesus himself was celibate, God chosen few have taken up their cross and follow the Path of Jesus Christ for us for those who are unable to. To attach celibacy to paganism in general, is calling Jesus, Paul and others as pagan followers, this is not so. Roman catholic Priests and religious follow Jesus not pagans, It is the deciever that twists the ways of God inorder to decieve not to follow Jesus Christ.

Please in charity do not taint the holy things of God, and give them to swine.

Peace be with you.

Based on your previous post, your knowledge of your own faith is questionable anyway. However, I am merely pointing out in my post that celibacy is not unique to the church. Your perception staggers my imagination. However, you would do well to research and see how much pagan influence actually is in some of the churches teachings.

He’s right, celibacy isn’t a requirement to be a priest in the Catholic Church. It’s only a requirement in one part of the Catholic Church: the Latin rite. Since only the Latin rite of the Catholic Church requires celibacy, anybody is free to join a different rite of the Catholic Church and still become a married priest.

of course it does.
The Church does not force anybody to become a priest. Therefore, the Church does not force anybody to vow celibacy.

why would a christian know so much about things pagan?meaning you coach…i hardly knew of any pagan/satanist belfiefs until i met up with ncc claims against the church. why?BTW pagans have a god so i guess our belief in God is another pagan thing.Mirthatis(sic) have simular beliefs about a god made man dying and riseng to save mankind, using your logic then all christianity is based on pagan beliefs.

try taking off the blinders…there is a whole world out there? I notice you dont refute pagan influence, however, just try to make a besmirching remark instead. That leads me to believe you have nothing substantial to offer.

your the one claiming i am pagan. talk about blind.as for pagan symbols the church claimed them for God and is using what men can see to piont them to the Creator of all.

I’ve researched. This is nonsense. The idea that methods of analysis used by pagan philosphers, such as Aristotle, cannot be used without somehow “contaminating” Christian belief with pagan myth, is absurd and baseless.

It’s only a requirement in one part of the Catholic Church: the Latin rite.Since this was about the RCC, I assume that means the Latin Rite, therefore it is required. Since only the Latin rite of the Catholic Church requires celibacy, anybody is free to join a different rite of the Catholic Church and still become a married priest.or another church, I dont see the logic of the statement. The Latin Rite under the Pope does require celibacy.

The Church does not force anybody to become a priest. Therefore, the Church does not force anybody to vow celibacy.
circular reasoning, sicne the discussion is about celibacy and the priesthood

Ah, so you admit to pagan influence…Thanks!

I once heard an anti-Catholic argue that the papacy came from paganism because pagans had high priests. Hello – Judaism had high priests!

It’s amazing that anybody still believes this Alexander-Hislop-schizophrenic-consipracy-theory nonsense about “paganism infecting Christianity.”

this not an admission to pagan influence rather the other way around.that which is pagan is taken and used for the purpose God intended it for.Man’s spirit is made for God and seeks for God in all things, but without the understanding of the Holy Spirit man’s limited mind distorts and bends things.gotta go later.

“Pagan influence” is awfully vague. Pagan Romans invented aquaducts, does that mean that any church which uses indoor plumbing suffers from “pagan influence?” Rip out them copper pipes, quick!

What you mean, I assume, is pagan belief. No pagan beliefs ever entered Catholicism. That’s a fairy tale invented by people who sought to justify their abandoning the Church Christ founded.

What amazes me is to see fundamentalists doing now exactly what Catholics did centuries ago. For instance, Fundamentalists consider Halloween a “pagan holiday,” so they replace it with a “harvest party,” held on the same night, where people dress as Biblical characters instead of ghosts. Yet they cannot imagine that maybe, just maybe, Catholics did the same thing to other pagan symbols or celebrations centuries ago – replaced a pagan meaning for something with a Christian meaning (like say, an Easter egg or a Christmas tree). Somehow it’s “Christianizing” when they do it but “compromising with paganism” when we do it. Apparently we get presumed guilty while they get presumed innocent. Nice, huh?

It would be pretty tough to explain why you had two spouses.
One being Jesus. Two being your spouse. If you decide to become a preist or a Nun, I believe you choose Christ as your spouse. You wouldn’t have enough time in your day to dedicate to both Jesus and Your spouse without sacraficing one for another. A preist or Nun should spend more time than most people in prayer and meditation with their friend and spouse Jesus. I think it would be pretty difficult to balance the two and I wouldn’t.

Just my humble opinion.
Just reading through this thread and I’m at this posting. I know I haven’t read all the posts, but I can’t help commenting on this.

If a man becomes a priest and his spouse is Jesus, wouldn’t that be a tad bit gay?

No, you assume wrong, I mean what I wrote.

1.- Because he hasn’t met the right woman?

2.- Because raising a bunch of kids would
mean that he couldn’t travel as often?

3.- Because his wife would throw a fit,
having to launder all of those white clothes?

4.- Because there wouldn’t be time to write
encyclicals, with all of those birthday parties,
graduations, and family functions to attend?
