I really need someone else’s (name removed by moderator)ut. I would love your opinions and what you think.

For the past 2 years, I have been studying HARD for the CPA exam, and my family has been praying for me. I have been relentlessly praying the rosary, up to 6 times a day to plz help in my studies and to ask me to pass. It is said the prayer through rosary can never fail, and I’ve been praying the rosary my whole life so I know how the rosary prayer is prayed.

I study for almost 8 hours a day, I even quit my job in real estate to focus full time studying and I pray almost 6 times daily, for aid and to help me pass, and over 5 attempts, nothing but failure.

What am I doing wrong, why is the Lord or the blessed mother not listening to me. I am losing all faith and thinking this is all a waste of time. Nothing but anger and frustration is building up inside of me
Are you in a state of grace? (no mortal sin(s) on your soul)? If not get to confession ASAP.
Are you shirking any of your duties? If so correct that.

If you’re in a state of grace, receiving the sacraments, you’re doing all you’re supposed to do, and you are praying faithfully daily, and still no success in answering what you want to do

Is it possible you’re not listening to God? Maybe He wants you to do something else with your life.

You are a ray of sunshine and hope arent you.

I pray the rosary for help on my exam and since I’m not getting any answers, you say i use the rosary as a study device or a talisman.
Not once did I blame the rosary on failing the test, I just asked why my prayers are not getting answered and you’re accusing me of blaming the rosary as a cheap shot.
I did a career change and invested a lot of time and sacrifice into this, and all you say is how I will be below my peers and other condescending information.
Thanks i really appreciate it.

and FYI i already finished all my educational requirements. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to sit for the exam. It’s a requirement by the state board. Understand?
I’m looking for help and guidance and i tend to weed out people who give nothing but negative energy which is precisely what you’re doing.
EVERYTHING I put or say, all you do is go against what I say and everything you do is try to prove me wrong. You must have a lot of friends.
It’s obvious your way of thinking is not on par with mine. I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t comment on my thread anymore. Please leave.

First of all I am truly sorry for the anxiety this situation has caused you and I will pray for your relief. I would advise that the rosary or any other prayer, is not a spiritual vending machine of sorts.Yes, God does answer prayers, "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him". 1 John 5:14-15, but in HIS time and according to HIS will. And somtimes that answer is no.

Calm down.

I have prayed for good test outcomes myself. However, it was at a reasonable level. You hinted at the excessive. That’s not what the Rosary is for.

Your thread title, unless you haven’t noticed is “Why is the Rosary failing me” it is a logical conclusion, therefore, to say that you are placing blame on the rosary. To me, blaming the rosary or declared it failed you, is a cheap shot.

I understand that you must be qualified to sit for the CPA. However, what I am explaining to you is that the test has a 50% pass rate and that many schools are able improve on that rate signigantly. The fact that you have not passed 5 times is alarming. I would suggest going back to your school and asking where you may be going wrong or enrolling in a course online that helps you pass. It could very well be that your school cheated you.

Can you understand that what’s occurred with you (not passing 5 times) is outside the norm?

Also, I did not say you are “less than” your peers, only that you should be aware that your peers will likely be ready to move on to bigger and better things because they have done the grunt work that you are now beginning. CPA is a tough gig and most new graduates are like groundhogs between February and April because of tax season, working 10, 15, 18 hour days. It isn’t easy–and it’s no wonder people move on after a decade of that. But that’s something you should be aware of. If you’re ready for the hard work, all the power to you. I wanted to be a manager in college. I started as an assistant manager and worked long thankless days. In my 30’s I was able to achieve better employment standards because of my experience. If you want to start that in your 30’s because it’s your dream, go right ahead. Just don’t compare yourself to your peers, because it will be a losing battle.

It’s funny you think that I’m spouting “negative energy” when you have shown yourself to be so very angry at most of the posters here.

Thank you. I have a business degree and had to take additional courses in accounting to be eligible to sit for the exam. In my previous posts, i posted

"However there were two incidents when I think I received an answer from him but I dont know if I’m being delusional. A few weeks ago I walked by a random church and i saw a sign on top of one of those banners that read “i heard you, be patient.” The 2nd incident, I googled prayers from GOD or why GOD doesn’t answer prayers or something along those lines. When I received google’s results I clicked on “images’ and the first random image i clicked on read “will you still believe in me when my answer is wait.” Again I don’t know if im being delusional or if that was his answer.”

Perhaps this was his answer. I think he wants me to wait more. I do know everything happens according to GOD’s will and GOD’s timing. Maybe that’s it. He will give me the knowledge to pass when it’s my time.

Did you not understand me when I asked you to leave my post?

I’m going to ask you one more time. I do not nor did not appreciate your previous condescending posts.

Please do not comment on my thread again. This is the 2nd time I am asking you

Jingko, you do not get to determine who does or does not post on your thread. Here’s the thing about forums…while you created this thread, it’s not about you. Someone may google “Why is the Rosary failing me” and this thread will come up a decade from now. Someone may search Catholic answers for information on CPA and this post will come up.

I stand my by my word that it is not right to put so much on a prayer given by God. Blaming prayer is never ok.

You have taken very personally many things which are simply facts. I worked with students in a CPA program. I would be very worried if one failed five times. Personally, I would feel that the blame lies with the school if the student had been diligent, especially as diligent as you have said you are. I have not said that you should not take the CPA or pursue it, only that having failed 5 times is very concerning.

I also know very well the job outcomes. While you did not introduce this idea, another poster did. He did not give all the facts, but his example was (mostly) correct. These types of jobs are a young man’s game. It doesn’t make you any less for wanting to pursue them. However, we are emotional and physical creatures. Long hours wear on us more as we age. It’s not something to be afraid of, just aware of.

In short, while you created this post, it is for all to discuss.

As someone who changed careers at age 37 and was one of the older people in the degree program at that time, but also met a number of other even older people in the degree program with me (all of them career changers for one reason or another), the person’s age should not be a topic for discussion. It’s agist regardless of what the US laws on agism are, or the practices in an industry (I could debate the discussions of “programming” as I have worked in software, but that’s not the topic of the person’s thread and I would rather move on).

There are many cases of people who pass a study course in a subject, such as for a degree, yet fail the qualifying exam, and some of them fail the qualifying exam multiple times. It is pretty brave for this person to even say that he has failed five times because he likely knows it will elicit negative feedback like “maybe you’re just not cut out for this work”. The person likely has a difficulty in taking the test, whether it is test anxiety, lack of a good prep course, or misdirected studying efforts, or all three of the above.

There are also many cases of people who fail exams multiple times before they finally pass them. There are people out there who fail the bar exam three times, four or five times, or a dozen times, and I seem to recall one older man who made the news because he had taken the California bar 48 times over 25 years before he finally passed it at age 60. (I corrected this here because I checked and his son had been a lawyer for some years and went into practice with his dad after dad passed the bar, but the son didn’t swear him in - my mistake.)

If the OP has listened to his heart and prayed and truly thinks he is still following God’s path for him, then he has thoughtfully considered the issue and wishes to keep trying. So he should try some of the practical advice given on the thread and overlook that which is off topic.

I am reminded here of one of my favorite quotes by President Calvin Coolidge, which I actually had hanging on my wall for a couple decades while overcoming all sorts of challenges in order to get through my own school and qualifications. Maybe the OP will find this inspiring as he hopefully takes the advice about exam prep courses, practice exams, asking others in the field such as his peers from school who have passed for their recommendations, etc.
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
If you’re sure this is what God wants for you, keep plugging away.

thank you for your reply tis. That is some good advice. I will continue to pray. St Joseph of cupertino, patron saint of test takers.

I did forget to mention, when i was taking my accounting courses at my extension university, half the people in the classrooms were all in their 40s and some older looking to learn accounting.

I also forgot to mention, it was my father who wanted me to choose the CPA route. i was doing fine working in the real estate field, but i was told somewhere my blood father is GOD’s representation on earth since the LORD if my father. Although I can’t say this for people who have had terrible fathers, but my father is a good man. Goes to church regularly and always took care of me and my family. In the beginning I was hesitant but wasn’t against it, so I decided to pursue it after I learned the importance of the license.

So with that fact in mind, I’m not convinced that GOD doesn’t want me to do this, maybe it’s just the timing.
I just hope that time doesnt take too much longer.

Just keep an open mind as to what you’re doing. It sounds like you can always go back to work in real estate if this doesn’t pan out, so you have a backup plan, which is good.

But really, I think you need to “work smarter, not harder” and just zero in on the exact reasons why you are not passing the exam and get professional test prep help with those areas.

Let us know how it goes…you can also start prayer request threads in the prayer intentions for your next exam.

It may be of no consolation to you, but a certain percentage of people fail these qualifying exams the first or even the second time around. We’re taking you at your word for all the facts you stated. I hope you are not baiting us with “stories” about the Rosary failing.

I have been praying for a cure or treatment for gender disorders (LGBT). My prayers have not been answered, but that does not discourage me for also praying for the safety of tornado and hurricane victims, for peace in the world, for my relatives, for the conversion of all people to Catholicism, and other “impossible” things.

I urge you to read and meditate on Psalm 31 “wait for the Lord” “trust in the Lord” etc. Do not give up on prayer, for scripture admonishes us to “pray without ceasing.”

Suffering, struggles, disappointments, catastrophes. These are all part of the human condition. This is when we grow our muscles of faith. This is where you make a decision. This is where you say, with all honesty, that you are struggling, you don’t know why things are they way they are, but you are making the decision today to follow God.

Say the Creed… I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth… and make those words your own. Grab on to those words. Put them in your heart. When that voice in your head says I’m losing confidence in God, stop and say the Creed again. Do not let the seed of doubt be fed and grown in your heart.

There are going to be many disappointments along the way. Many things that just don’t make sense to us. Who is your anchor in all of this? The Creator of the universe Who sent His son into the world to redeem us. He makes crooked paths straight.

You may not be at the place where you can pray this, but then ask for the grace to pray this. It will serve you well your whole life and gain you and others great merit and blessing.

I thank you Jesus for this cross.

I accept this cross for love of you.

Please use this cross for the good of my soul and for the salvation of others, through the prayers of Our Lady of Fatima.

I have passed through some hard days where I said “Lord, I can’t wait to see the good you bring about through these circumstances. I can’t wait to see the testimony of your goodness and mercy that will be mine to share with others! I place all my trust in you Jesus!”

God loves you and cares for you. Be not afraid.

Sir2v4 mentioned praying for others. Very often the efficacy of prayer is greater when it is outward focused, when we become personally less self-centered. When we are in the midst of crisis, it is easy to become focused on the crisis. We are like Peter who took his eyes off Christ and saw the waves of the storm that could take him under at any second.

There have been studies showing confirming that optimists find more opportunities. One one way to improve optimism is to increase gratitude. Be thankful for the blessings that you already have. Working real estate means that you had to become licensed as an agent. You still have what others lack, should this new field not be the direction God is calling you. The courses taken will not go to waste within a real estate field or managerial field. Government or insurance appraisals?
Is the accounting what you want, or is the pursuit a CPA to please family? How else might you use the training you have received, if the way to becoming licensed still seemed blocked?
When is the last time you talked to a career counselor at your school? Have they lined up any test prep courses for you? Do you have a test prep book?

I hear you. I know this prayer is centered on me but at the moment i have no choice because i need to hurry and get my life together. I m sure GOD knows that.

I’ve also been thinking, maybe Ive been praying incorrectly. Instead of asking for a passing grade, I should pray for the courage, and ability to study smarter so i can pass. Or something along those lines. Pray for the skills needed to pass, not TO pass. Everything is up to me.

What am I doing wrong, why is the Lord or the blessed mother not listening to me. I am losing all faith and thinking this is all a waste of time. Nothing but anger and frustration is building up inside of me
Prayer is not magic. Sometimes the answer is ‘no’.

Sometimes the answer an be “wait.” If the answer really was NO, I think GOD would have let me know. There were incidents in the past when other things i prayed for really was a NO and i knew it. But its not this time

There was a time in my life when I had to break away from praying for a certain situation. I was in the midst of a life altering crisis, one too personal to discuss on a public forum.

Let others, like your parents pray for your situation and your future. Place it in God’s hands, relax, and “expect a miracle.” That “miracle” may have absolutely. nothing to do with your studies or your test. It may be a new insight as to what God expects from you.
As I wrote in an earlier post, try separating your studies from your prayers so that you can focus on each individually. That focus can in fact become prayer.
It’s like the kitchen prayer my mother used to have that began “O Lord of pots and pans and things, make my grumbling cease…I may have Martha’s hands, but I have a Mary heart.” It was an honest prayer that saw Christ in daily grind of every day chores.

Instead of praying several rosaries throughout the day, simply pray one focused rosary. Begin with Louis de Montfort’s Introductory prayer. I like using a missionary rosary, where the different colored decades represent the different continents. I learned through Marian Movement of Priests about consecrating my family at the beginning of every rosary. St. John Paul II recommends reading a short gossip message at the beginning of each decade related to the mystery being meditated upon.
When it’s time for study, focus on studies. Before going back to school, I read a book about studying. I had actually taken a study class for my first BS and learned all taken notes using mapping/etc. This focused on neatness (don’t ask about how my apt. looks). Get the laundry, dishes, etc. and all the nitty gritty done before starting to study. When these task become routine, you open yourself to higher level pursuits. I had a family while pursuing my first degree. I was also a member of the Army Reserves. I know how easy it is to be distracted, and how important it is to set aside a space specifically for study. You don’t need 8 hours/day to study. You need to set aside a specific space and time (2 hours maximum). You will study for 45 minutes, take a 15 minute break, and then study for 45 minutes more. The first 15 minutes of each hour is review. Your desk is neat. And everything is put away when you are finished.

There actually is a specific prayer for teachers and students that I don’t have on hand presently, just as there is a prayer to St. Joseph for workers at the beginning of the day. If you want, you may choose to pray that prayer, if somebody comes across it at the beginning of your study session.

  1. Sounds rather obsessive. Have you considered counseling?
  2. God is not a vending machine into which you insert so many Rosaries and get what you want.
  3. Ever consider that God’s will for you has zero to do with being a CPA?
