Why is the Rosary failing me

I really need someone else’s (name removed by moderator)ut. I would love your opinions and what you think.

For the past 2 years, I have been studying HARD for the CPA exam, and my family has been praying for me. I have been relentlessly praying the rosary, up to 6 times a day to plz help in my studies and to ask me to pass. It is said the prayer through rosary can never fail, and I’ve been praying the rosary my whole life so I know how the rosary prayer is prayed.

I study for almost 8 hours a day, I even quit my job in real estate to focus full time studying and I pray almost 6 times daily, for aid and to help me pass, and over 5 attempts, nothing but failure.

What am I doing wrong, why is the Lord or the blessed mother not listening to me. I am losing all faith and thinking this is all a waste of time. Nothing but anger and frustration is building up inside of me
 
It sounds to me as if you are using the rosary more as a talisman than as anything to benefit you spiritually.
 
You’re already super stressed out and now adding another stresser by compulsively saying the Rosary and wondering why it doesn’t work.
It sounds counter-productibe but maybe you need to take a break, think about something else for a few minutes, and relax a little. I know some people like to cram-study and maybe that works for you, but there is a risk for burnout.
 
I do not think he is cram studying. Aince he said he does it daily for 8 hours. Cramming is studying a lot of matter in a short span of time.
 
You sound as if you’re wearing yourself out.
With 8 hours study a day, you are already asking a lot of yourself,
while remaining on a high level f stress takes toll of our health and best efforts.

Praying the Rosary 6 times per day won’t automatically obtain what you wish.
It might be wiser to pray the Rosary once daily, with all your heart, and give yourself some time to relax a little.
Whatever abilities God has given you is already answer to your prayer to achieve what you need, if you also look after yourself properly in a healthy way. As your loving Mother, Mary wants her child to take proper, balanced care of health and of their time.

A part answer to her prayer for you, is that you are seeking some advice and prayers from fellow Catholics outside your circle, in wanting to care of you. Please do heed that.

The answer to prayer, even to the Rosary, is not always ‘yes’ or ‘no’,
there are sometimes answers that come in another form.
And we don’t always have to use lots of words or devotional 'formulas (yes, the Rosary is more than that), but also speak from the heart. It is our Mother, or our loving Father to whom we are speaking .

i am not using it as a talisman. You are able to request things through the rosary and I am doing just that.

Yes, you can request things, but praying several times a day, to the point of exhaustion is excessive and is not helping matters (obviously) as you have not yet passed. You cannot pray yourself a passing grade, nor can you force your brain to absorb the knowledge.

However, your question was “why is the rosary failing me”. The rosary is NOT a study device. It is not failing you.

What may be more prudent is to seek the advice of someone who has been there or a professional who knows how to study in a more efficient way.
 
The purpose of any prayer is to “lift heart and mind to God.”
I have never understood the purpose of praying multiple rosaries throughout the day. Set aside one time during the day in which to focus on the Mysteries of the Day. Don’t pray for any particular purpose other than to become more united with with God.

Have you ever taken any study skills classes? Are you in the field that you really want to pursue for the rest of your life? Sometimes when people say they are studying for hours on end it is because they are do not truly know how to study, and become distracted, constantly going over the same material without making any real progress.

First separate your study time from your prayer time.
See a career counselor, even if you have already spent much time pursuing your current major. Is it really right for you? Perhaps the stress you are feeling is trying to tell you that you need to try a different path. There are tests to uncover where your real interests lie, and where you will have more success because you will be motivated by personal interests.
Most schools have tutorial programs. I worked as an Anatomy and Physiology tutor while attending a technical college. The tutor can help you develop more effective study skills, as well as quiz you on what you need to know in the field you want to follow. He/she can help you learn to take better notes in class and learn more effective ways of reading your textbook.
There is no reason to study any subject more than two hours at a time. Within that period, there is plenty of time for review of material and rest so that actual study time per hour =45 minutes. The rest period is as important for retention as rest between physical exercise is so the body can recuperate and rebuild.
 
I have taken more horrible qualifying exams for stuff than I want to discuss here. First of all, saying the Rosary 6 times a day to pass an exam is (1) overkill and (2) is not going to help you from a practical standpoint with your exam. If you were doing it to quell your anxiety, I’d say fine, but since that’s not the case, Mary has certainly heard your prayer by now and she is helping you. So now you have to focus on helping yourself, because God and Mary expect you to put in an intelligent effort too, and there’s a real concern here that 6 rosaries a day is going to be a big distraction from your studies. You need to dial it way back to ONE heartfelt rosary a day and a prayer to St. Jude and St. Joseph.

Second of all, let’s look at why you have been failing this exam. First and foremost, have you taken a CPA Exam prep course? Usually, for passing these types of form exams, there are very specific questions and things you will need to know. 8 hours of studying is going to be a waste unless you are just drilling on the types of questions and formats that will be on the exam. I know for bar review exams, or grad school Masters qualifying exams, you could easily spend 8 hours a day for a month studying law or a masters degree subject and still fail the exam if you didn’t happen to study the precise stuff, in the precise format, that is going to be on the exam. This is why you need an exam review course that will focus on exactly what you need to know to pass this exam. Forget studying the subject generally, the subject here is “Pass the Exam” by learning the tricks of how to take it. I don’t want to sound like a late night infomercial, but once you figure out the gist of how the exam (not the subject) goes, you can often pass the exam with relatively little studying, and in fact massive studying may be putting too much stuff in your head to the point where you can’t access the important things you need to know to pass.

Second, are you doing practice exams? When studying for any form exam, a large part of your studying should be doing as many practice exams as possible. And as many of them as possible should be timed and under test conditions (quiet environment, same amount of time as if you’re taking the real exam). Once you have done umpteen practice exams, then doing the real one is going to be just another day at the office - you won’t get as nervous, you will just crank through it. Practice exams also show you which subjects/ types of questions are weak points to work on.

Somebody who is studying 8 hours a day for months but has failed an exam 5 times suggests to me a lack in one of the two above areas. It does not mean you are not knowledgeable about the subject, but you need to focus specifically on just doing what you need to do to pass the exam. If you have any feedback on your failed exams, or know which sections gave you problems, or know that you have some general problem with nervousness, etc. then you know what areas you need to concentrate on. Instead of the 6 rosaries just ask Jesus and Mary and St. Joseph and St. Jude to help you focus on what’s most important to pass the exam. You can do it. Good luck.

This is also good advice. I gave you mine from an exam takers’ perspective. I have to date (and not counting entrance exams like the SAT, ACT, GRE, etc.) taken about six professional qualifying exams (some of them had to be taken in multiple stages so that would boost it up to more like 9, but you get the drift). If I never have to take another exam again I will be thrilled. For 5 of them I took an exam review course and I can tell you I would have been lost on the exams without the course. (The sixth one didn’t have a review course; I was lucky in that most of the questions on it just happened to deal with an area I was reasonably good at.) I am not a CPA so I cannot give you advice on which review course is the best or how to make most efficient use of review materials. For that, maybe seek out some other CPAs in your area, or if you have friends who have passed, ask them.
 
Using valuable study time to pray for success instead of studying is your first problem.
 
Gods timing is not your own and your prayers are being heard.

You may consider that test anxiety can be at work here as well. It sounds like you are placing alot of pressure on yourself.
 
Why don’t you pray for God’s help in discerning His will for you, rather than forcing yourself to be something like a CPA? Failing at something like an exam repeatedly may indeed be a sort of answer for you. I don’t want to get into a discussion of career outlook, but there are indeed limitations in the accounting field which you may not be suited to overcome or to deal with. (I don’t know if the 83 in your user name is your birth year, but accounting, like computer programming, is largely a young person’s field. People in their mid-30’s trying to get into something like that will run into employment problems.) Maybe, rather than being a CPA, God intends for you to do something else with your time.

Praying and praying and praying and praying and praying are not a substitute for spiritual maturity. And, respectfully, if you want something that God doesn’t, and this is leading to a loss of faith and to resentment, you do need to develop a little more. Rosaries won’t suddenly replace that need.

Test anxiety is a common issue for some of the brightest students. Do take the advice already given by previous posters regarding preview test courses. These are generally weekend seminars that give a sample of what to expect on the day of the test, including proctor instructions and intonation.
When I was simply studying for regular classes, I would play music in the background to tune out white noise. I found Gregorian Chant helpful while studying physics, for example. The language of the country helps when trying to learn a new language. I used three different color highlighters (only), and took class notes in ink.
The way to study for multiple study tests does differ somewhat from studying for an essay test. Don’t be afraid to use any tutorial service offered by your school.
Do set aside a specific time and place to study. If you find it difficult to study at home, you may consider treating your school as your workplace. Find a quiet place on campus, where you can routinely study. Your focus during that time will be solely on what you need to study, and not extra details or distractions.
 
Thank you for your kind replies. However I think most of you don’t understand the context of my question and i think most of you are going off topic. GOD knows how much I want this, and how much I sacrificed to go down this course. I left my job in real estate a while ago to study full time and im starting to get desperate yet no answers.

However there were two incidents when I think I received an answer from him but I dont know if I’m being delusional. A few weeks ago I walked by a random church and i saw a sign on top of one of those banners that read “i heard you, be patient.” The 2nd incident, I googled prayers from GOD or why GOD doesn’t answer prayers or something along those lines. When I received google’s results I clicked on "images’ and the first random image i clicked on read “will you still believe in me when my answer is wait.” Again I don’t know if im being delusional or if that was his answer.

For all of you who are asking me to reconsider this or look for something else. Understand this is what my own family/parents are wanting from me and I invested too much in this. I too want to finish this, and if myself and my own family wants this from, I don’t know if GOD would still block me from this.

I don’t know how to respond to your comment. Accounting and programming is not a young persons field.

All the CPA’s I know are all in their 40s to even 50s and my age will not have anything to do with it. Yes 83 is my birth year and i will be approaching
my mid 30s soon but just because im in my 30s will not prohibit from getting a job whatever my age is.
I don’t know if you are from America, but I am, and to discriminate employment based on age is illegal.

I don’t mean this to be dismissive, Jingko, but at the university I worked at students had a 5+1 program where they did an extended undergrad, had a year of masters and were able to sit for their CPA. The program boosted of an 85% first time pass rate and an 97% overall pass rate.

The CPA test is difficult, with an average 50% pass rate as declared by the publisher, but even outside programs bost of a 70-90% pass rate.

Failing 5 times should tell you something is wrong…and blaming the rosary seems to me to be a cheap shot.

You may need to go back for actual education, but studying 8 hours a day and praying 20 is not getting you the results you want, and may never.

Actually, in America, it’s only illegal to discriminate by age if one is 40 or older. A business is free to fire someone because they are 30 and there are absolutely no legal ramifications.

Also, the poster is partially right. Programming and accounting work is primarily taken up by young people because of the hours and demands and the relatively low pay in relation to the field. Most professionals in these fields move on to more advanced jobs in management or other areas before they age out of doing a job forever. It’s not that you cannot do the job as a 30yo…but you have to understand your peers will already have a decade of experience and be looking to move on to far more lucrative and less demanding work.
