Pam, again go ask someone on “once Catholic” a priest will answer your question. You can’t always rely on your Catholic peers for the answers. People can be bias and place their own personal preference in the answer for you and then go find Church teaching to fit their opinion. More than likely, it’s probably true that the Church discourages outdoor weddings but I would bet it’s allowed under certain circumstances. I feel, (personal bias hereSee, these things confuse me… We have outdoor Mass at our church several times a year. And since God is everywhere…I would think he wouldn’t care… I would think that God would be pleased that people wanted their wedding in his beautiful outdoor creation rather than our indoor man-made setting.
I’m still confused…![]()
The hard part might be finding a priest who will do this. In California will live among beautiful forests and mountains and the parishes up in those mountain areas are fairly tiny so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they have marriage taking place out doors up there.
Personally, I would rather be married in a Church but I am admittedly traditional on these matters.
To note, our priest married a couple in Ireland outdoors when our Celtic club spent three weeks over there. From what I hear it was absolutely beautiful. It was done very respectful and near very old church ruins. The name of the area escapes me now, but I know it’s a rather sacred space.
